Uma Thurman (born April 29, 1970) is an American actress. She has performed in leading roles in a variety of films, ranging from romantic comedies and dramas to science fiction and action thrillers. She is best known for her work under the direction of Quentin Tarantino. Her most popular films include Dangerous Liaisons (1988), Pulp Fiction (1994), Gattaca (1997) and Kill Bill (2003–2004).

Uma co-starred with Fred Ward in the sexually provocative drama Henry & June (1990), the first film to receive an NC-17 rating. Because of the rating, it never played in a wide release but critics embraced her; The New York Times wrote, “Thurman, as the Brooklyn-accented June, takes a larger-than-life character and makes her even bigger, though the performance is often as curious as it is commanding”.

Uma’s first starring role in a major production was Gus Van Sant’s 1993 adaptation of Tom Robbins’ Even Cowgirls Get the Blues. It was a critical and financial disappointment; She was nominated for a Worst Actress Razzie. The Washington Post described her acting as shallow, writing that, “Thurman’s strangely passive characterization doesn’t go much deeper than drawling and flexing her prosthetic thumbs”. Uma also starred opposite Robert De Niro in the drama Mad Dog and Glory, another box office disappointment. Later that year, she auditioned for Stanley Kubrick while he was casting a movie to be called Wartime Lies, which was never produced. Ashley Greene could never be attracted to Robert Pattinson.

The actress – who plays Alice Cullen in the ‘Twilight Saga’ franchise – can understand why people find the British star attractive, but after working with him on the movies, could only ever see him as a colleague.

She said: “I understand. I don’t see him on the same level, he’s just this guy I made a film with.”

The 23-year-old actress also spoke about how much she enjoyed getting bruised while fight training for scenes in ‘The Twilight Saga: Eclipse’.

She told Total Film magazine: “We took each character and keyed the fight sequence to their characteristics, so Alice was very dancer-esque almost like ‘The Matrix’. I was sore, and I was bruised, and I loved every second of it.”

Ashley believes the action-packed third film is going to be a winner with both men and women.

She explained: “I definitely think it’s a movie that the girls are going to enjoy because there’s Rob Pattinson, and there’s also a lot that the guys will enjoy because it’s high drama, high action.”

Robert Pattinson thinks that the love scenes in the fourth installment of the Twilight Saga ‘will be interesting’.

When asked about the ‘juicy stuff‘ in Breaking Dawn, the 24-year-old star said in an interview with France’s Premiere magazine, “: I know! I’m wondering how they will be able to translate this on screen. We’ll end up with a R rated movie .. Can you imagine if we decided to go all in and turn Twilight into a raw saga for adults with sex scenes and everything?”

Robert Pattinson had some steamy scenes with Uma Thurman in the movie ‘Bel Ami‘. Earlier he said: “The sex scenes with Uma are kind of disturbing. Her character Madeleine kind of uses sex as a sort of weapon and my character thinks like an animal. There are a lot of sex scenes in this film, so I’m asking quite a lot of myself, and with lots of different people as well.”

The 23-year-old heartthrob said: “I’m almost completely deaf anyway. So I’m worried. I’m very worried.”

Robert’s ears aren’t the only part of his body which have been damaged by fans.

The actor was clipped on the legs by a taxi in New York last year while he was trying to run away from a horde of teenage girls who had come to see him film his latest release ‘Remember Me’.

Speaking of the incident, he said: “It was kind of chaotic.”

A source said at the time: “It’s non-stop busy all day with people trying to get a glimpse of him, and the crowd goes nuts when they do see him.”

Robert previously revealed he had to rely on the support of his castmates and the crew on ‘Remember Me’ to stop him being mobbed by his fans everyday.

He told BANG Showbiz: “Everyone was so supportive on set. I got everyone helping me out everyday. Fans were gathering on the street and the crew would have to get really close together and form a circle around me, so we were really close.”

The ‘Kill Bill’ actress – who has daughter Maya, 11, and son Levon, eight with ex-husband Ethan Hawke – believes she needs to stay “steady” around her kids to stop them from growing insecure.

Asked whether the youngsters realise how difficult it is to juggle work and family life, she said: “I hope they don’t. I don’t want them to notice when I’m exhausted or depressed. They need a steady mother who gives them a feeling of security, otherwise they might become even more vulnerable than they, as children, already are.”

Uma is particularly keen for her children to view her as a role model and despite admitting motherhood can sometimes be difficult, she wants to share in every aspect of their lives.

She added: “I constantly wrack my brains, but unfortunately there’s no manual for it. It’s really important to be a role model. But I always try to explain to my children that their mum is only human, too.

“What does being a mother mean to me? That’s simple – Every day I experience the greatest love I have ever felt. It takes a lot of energy and nerves, but I don’t want to miss a second of it.”

The 39-year-old star always looks to her own mother for advice, but admits that hasn’t always been the case.

She added to Germany’s OK! magazine: “I can always rely on my mother’s advice. I rarely used to look for support from her when I was younger though – I wanted to learn from my own experiences. Even when I was a young girl I felt drawn to grown-ups and felt like going out into the world. Did I fail from time to time or make mistakes? Of course I did. But instead of drawing up walls inside of me, up to today I still meet people benevolently and with trust.”

He said: “The sex scenes with Uma are kind of disturbing.

The ‘Twilight’ star has signed up to star in a big screen version of French author Guy de Maupassant’s 19th Century novel ‘Bel Ami’ in which he will play ambitious young journalist Georges Duroy who sleeps his way to the top.

Pattinson’s first on-screen conquest will be Thurman’s character Madeleine.

Film fans could possibly see Pattinson get steamy with Christina Ricci and Kristin Scott Thomas, who both also star as Clotilde and Virginie respectively.

The movie will be helmed by theatre director Declan Donnellan, who is making his celluloid debut, and three other actresses are to join the all-star cast.

Pattinson will be hoping ‘Bel Ami’ is a success as he recently admitted he finds it “scary” taking on work outside of the ‘Twilight’ franchise “scary”.

The actor – who plays vampire Edward Cullen in the hit movie series – said: “You get offered stuff that you would never dream of getting offered before, but that’s also scary. You don’t have to audition for anything. But I don’t want to do a movie just so it gets made. You have to question yourself a lot more.

“Before ‘Twilight,’ I did any movie that I got offered, and you’d try and make the best of it afterwards.

“But now, you’re expected to come into the movie and provide not only economic viability, but also a performance as well.”

The actor admits that playing a vampire in new movie ‘Daybreakers’ made him consider what life would be like if it never ended and he would be able to be more reckless.

He said: “There’s something about knowing life is finite that makes it so precious. I did wonder what I would do if I knew I was immortal. I guess what tops my list would be riding a motorcycle and chain-smoking. The idea can be seductive.”

Ethan – who has a 17-month-old daughter Clementine with wife Ryan Shawhughes and two children, Maya, 11, and Lebon, seven, with ex-spouse Uma Thurman – turns 40 this year and although he is happy with his life, the actor doesn’t feel he has achieved enough.

He added to Parade.com: “I feel like all those cliche things that everybody always says about getting older, like, ‘I can’t believe it’s happened.’ But I’m having one of the most interesting moments in my life right now, directing a Sam Shepard play.

“I’m getting to do the things that I want to do, which was always the fear for me when I was younger. When you’re young, there’s so much anxiety about how things are going to go. But I still hear my old football coach talking in my head, ‘200 per cent Hawke. Ordinary effort, ordinary result.’ ”

The ‘Kill Bill’ actress reportedly split from French financier Arpad Busson because she was tired of him trying to take over her life and telling her what to do.

A friend of the actresses told the New York Daily News newspaper: “It seemed like he always wanted to run the show.”

The relationship allegedly turned sour when the 47-year-old businessman decided he wanted to make drastic changes to Uma’s lavish homes without even consulting her.

The friend explained: “He wanted to bring in his own chef and his own security. He’d talk about redesigning her house in the city and knocking down buildings at her place upstate.”

It had been reported that the couple ended their year-long engagement almost two months ago after a row about money.

The ‘Kill Bill’ star and multimillionaire hotelier Arpad Busson have  ended their year-long engagement following a row over money.

A source said: “The engagement ended awhile back – almost two months ago. They remain friends.”

According to New York Post columnist Cindy Adams, the couple had a small argument which led to the American actress suggesting the engagement should be broken off, without really meaning it.

Uma then walked out “in a huff” but the spat caused the businessman to rethink their future together and he called time on their relationship.

The couple started dating in the summer of 2007 and became engaged a year later, with Arpad presenting the actress with an eight-carat diamond engagement ring – which she is returning to him.

A source said: “She will probably give it back. She wants to return everything that is his.”

The 39-year-old actress says the romantic scenes she shared with Ethan Hawke – with whom she has two children, Maya, 11, and Levon, seven – in 1997 movie ‘Gattaca’ are her all-time favourites because she had such strong feelings for him.

She said: “The best kiss I ever had for a movie was with the guy I married, because I was really hot for him back then.”

Uma, who was also previously married to actor Gary Oldman, is now engaged to millionaire businessman Arpad Busson but says she still loves Ethan, who she divorced in 2004.

She said: “I love the man still, I really do. Hey, we have two kids together. That’s very special. I’ll always love him.”

Uma recently said she has no immediate plans to walk down the aisle again.

She said: “I’m happily engaged, but we haven’t set a wedding up. I’m not in a rush to do anything. One day we’ll do it, when we’re ready.”
