Leonardo DiCaprio considered quitting acting after starring in ‘Titanic’.

The 35-year-old actor didn’t enjoy the fame he achieved by starring in the blockbuster movie because his appearance took precedence over his acting ability.

Leonardo – who starred in the movie with Kate Winslet – said: “At first I hated the way I was turned into a pretty boy, as if that was all that was expected of me.

“It made me almost want to stop acting for a while because the attention that was focused on me was not where I wanted to take my career.

“I didn’t want to do romantic films or anything which just exploited my image or appearance. I also kind of had to be more careful about the friends I was hanging out with. I was living a pretty big life for a while and then that just gets tiresome.”

Leonardo has also revealed children could be on the cards for him and girlfriend Bar Refaeli.

The ‘Shutter Island’ star admits family has become more important to him since the death of his 93-year-old grandmother Helene Indenbirken in 2008.

He told the Daily Mirror newspaper: “Family is something I’m starting to think about more and more, especially now that my grandmother is no longer around.  It makes you think about the importance of things and how important it is to be part of a family – to have some meaning apart from your work.”

The ‘Shutter Island’ actor and the Israeli model recently denied reports they were engaged but his latest co-star believes they are made for each other.

Emily said: “I didn’t know he wasn’t married! I’m sure that he will, yes, and be very happy.”

Leonardo’s good friend, Roberta Armani – niece of Giorgio Armani – also believes the pair are good for each other because they are so similar.

She said: “They are very similar. Not only do they look alike, they are both very lively and warm. No pretences at all.”

Leonardo and Bar split last June but rekindled their relationship last November after he took her for a luxury holiday in the Bahamas.

A source said: “They stayed in their own villa. They were shacked up together all weekend.”

Their break-up was believed to have been because Bar – who first started dating Leonardo in 2006 – wanted the romance to be more serious, prompting the ‘Titanic’ actor to call time on their relationship.

The ‘Sutter Island’ star – who has been acting since he was 15 but hit worldwide stardom when he starred in 1997’s ‘Titanic’ – says it’s important to keep grounded when experiencing fame and success because it can be taken away very quickly.

He said: “Just because you’ve done a good performance once, doesn’t mean you’re always going to be good. That’s why some of the greatest actors in the world have gone a little bit nuts. They’re saying to themselves, ‘What happened? You used to love me?’ It’s an easy trap to fall into. You just have to realise that when you’re hot, you’re hot, and when you’re not, you’re not.”

The 35-year-old heartthrob says his friends help him stay down-to-earth as they won’t let him act like a star.

He told parade.com: “I know this is going to sound lame, but one of my favourite things is hanging out with my friends. They take me away from the world of show business and keep me grounded. It brings me back to who I am. When I didn’t want to go out in public after all the craziness surrounding ‘Titanic’, they sort of pushed me out the door. They were like, ‘Are you going to hide out like a little hermit?’ ”

The Australian actor – who stars as a blue alien called Jake Sully in ‘Avatar’, the 3-D animated film by director James Cameron – insists he didn’t solely rely on technology for the role.

He said: “I had nothing on. I had a loincloth on and they painted me blue, basically”.

Speaking on Thursday night (17.12.09) at the Los Angeles premiere of the film, Sam – who was relatively unknown before being offered the role in ‘Avatar’ – admitted he welcomed the body-baring challenge.

He said: “I was thinking if this is how you make a big budget movie, then I’m mad enough to be a part of it.

“I would do that most times, doesn’t matter if James Cameron wants me to do it. I do it most times. He had to struggle to put clothes on me today!”

The 33-year-old star also credited Cameron – who directed 1997 blockbuster ‘Titanic’ – for changing his life and career forever.

He said: “Before I met Jim I was sleeping in my car. He’s plucked me from obscurity. He changed my life, so to speak.”

The ‘Happy’ singer is too busy with promotional duties for her own album ‘Echo’ to want to spend time plugging ‘I See You’, which is used in the £300 million film.

Angry director James Cameron has now given the British star a sneak preview of the movie – the most expensive ever made – in an attempt to persuade her to release the song but she is still said to be unable to make up her mind.

A source said: “Leona was delighted to be part of ‘Avatar’ but the song was never supposed to be released. But her cover of ‘Run’ wasn’t meant to be released either – and look how well that did.”

James is said to be particularly disappointed as he believes the track could be as successful as Celine Dion’s 1997 hit ‘My Heart Will Go On’, the lead song on the soundtrack to his blockbuster ‘Titanic’.

‘I See You’ was even produced by James Horner and Simon Franglen, the same team behind Celine’s massive hit.

The Hollywood heartthrob reportedly took the Israeli-born model to Baker’s Bay, an exclusive holiday resort in the Bahamas, last weekend where they stayed in their own private villa.

A source told the New York Post newspaper: “They stayed in their own villa. They were shacked up together all weekend.”

Leonardo and Bar split in June after having an on/off relationship for months. It was believed Bar – who first started dating Leonardo in 2006 – wanted the romance to be more serious, prompting the ‘Titanic’ actor to call time on their relationship.

Since their split, Leonardo has been linked to Pussycat Dolls star Ashley Roberts, Cameron Diaz and Russian Sports Illustrated model Anne Vyalitsyna, while Bar has been seen with Israeli gambling tycoon Teddy Sagi and Brazilian playboy Ricardo Mansur.

The actor spent most of the summer partying in London at several exclusive nightspots, including Chinawhite, Whisky Mist and Maddox.

The ‘High School Musical’ star – who became a teenage heartthrob after appearing in the Disney movie franchise – would love to try his hand at as a screen hero but fears his career could be over if the role wasn’t perfect.

He said: “I would love to try an action film at some point, but not too soon. I think that can be a kiss of death. There’s got to be a real role that I can bring something unique and specific to, a way for me to do it believably. Until then, I think it would just come across as weird.”

The 22-year-old star also revealed he is in awe of actor Leonardo DiCaprio – despite disliking him when he was growing up.

He admitted: “I think Leonardo DiCaprio’s done a great job. I was dead set against the guy when I was growing up, kind of force-fed his image from ‘Titanic’. Since then, through very hard work and incredible performances, he’s done a complete 180. Now he’s one of my favorite actors. He’s at the top of his game.”

Meanwhile, Zac has revealed he plans to return to college to continue his studies.

He said: “I know at some point I will go back and study, but at this point I’m definitely focusing on working as hard as I can on film.

“I’ve always wanted to do Broadway. Finding that right role is a challenge. I wouldn’t want to just do it to do it. I would want to make sure it’s something special.”

The ‘Twilight’ actor – who is rumoured to have an on/off relationship with his co-star Kristin Stewart – says he struggles to impress women he has a crush on because he is too nervous about making a loving gesture.

The 23-year-old heartthrob said: “I can’t think of a single romantic thing that I’ve ever done.

“I would never serenade someone to be romantic – you have to have so much balls to do that.

“I put a flower in someone’s locker when I was 15 years old, this girl called Maria. She thought that it was someone else and the other guy claimed it as well, which is great.”

Despite his hopeless ways, the actor says he still has an appreciation for romance, insisting it isn’t only girls who like it.

He said: “It’s like saying guys can’t appreciate romance. I’ve watched ‘Titanic ‘and I didn’t think, ‘Oh, this is a girl’s film.”

The actor also admitted he has an obsessive streak – and refuses to take advice from anyone.

He told America’s People magazine: “I have very, very specific ideas about how I want to do my work and how I want to be perceived, to the point of ridiculousness sometimes.

“I don’t listen to anyone else. That’s why I don’t have a publicist – I can’t stand it if someone’s trying to tell me to do something which might be a mistake.”
