Russell Brand thinks the UK riots are “sad and frightening”

The British comedian – who now lives in Los Angeles with his wife Katy Perry – is upset areas he has previously lived in London has been affected by the looting and violence in the last week and hopes his views do not irritate because he no longer lives in England.

He wrote on his website: “This week’s riots are sad and frightening and if I have by virtue of my temporary displacement forgone the right to speak about the behaviour of my countrymen then this is gonna be irksome.

“I’ve lived in Dalston, Hackney, Elephant, Camden and Bethnal Green, I grew up around Dagenham and Romford and whilst I could never claim to be from the demographic most obviously affected I feel guilty that I’m not there now.

“I feel proud to be English, proud to be a Londoner (alright an Essex boy) never more so than since being in exile and I naturally begin to wonder what would make young people destroy their communities.”

Although the 36-year-old star believes he does not know the answer to the problem – which was sparked by the killing of Mark Duggan by police last week – because of his celebrity lifestyle, he hopes people learn to deal with their problems spiritually.

He added: “I don’t know enough about politics to ponder a solution and my hands are sticky with blood money from representing corporate interests through film, television and commercials, venerating, through my endorsements and celebrity, products and a lifestyle that contributes to the alienation of an increasingly dissatisfied underclass.

“But I know, as we all intuitively know, that the solution is all around us and it isn’t political, it is spiritual. Ghandi said, ‘Be the change you want to see in the world.’ ”

Katy Perry and Russell Brand have put their Los Angeles home up for sale for $3.395 million

The married couple have decided to put the luxury property on the market after living there sporadically for just two years.

The 1922 Mediterranean-style house comes complete with four bedrooms, a three-car garage, swimming pool, huge living area, modern kitchen and incredible views of the city.

However, some features are not included in the sale such as a 25ft ‘love tepee’ which Russell had installed for him and his pop star wife, and a vintage pink refrigerator which Katy bought for the kitchen.

It is believed the couple have decided to sell the property because they want to make their New York apartment – which they purchased for $2.7 million last year – their main home.

The lovebirds are currently apart as Russell is shooting his next movie, the big screen version of acclaimed musical ‘Rock of Ages’, in Miami, while Katy is in New Zealand on the latest leg of her ‘California Dreams’ world tour.

Despite her hectic work schedule the ‘Firework’ singer recently revealed her husband is her “number one priority”.

The 26-year-old pop star – who married the 35-year-old British comedian in India last October said: “My husband is my number one priority. We have an amazing relationship.

“It’s important that I’m not always rushing around everywhere too much. I have to take the time to live life and have experiences.”

The 26-year-old singer – who married the British comedian in India in October last year –has an “amazing relationship” with her husband and likes to take time out from her busy schedule to focus on him.

She said: “My husband is my number one priority. We have an amazing relationship.

“It’s important that I’m not always rushing around everywhere too much. I have to take the time to live life and have experiences.”

Katy is being taught about British slang from Russell, and she feels a special affinity with the UK now, even picking up more casual terms such as “holiday” and “bin”.

She explained in an interview with The Hits radio: “Russell’s teaching me British slang and phrases now. I say, ‘I’m dining out on that one mate,’ and say ‘bin’ instead of ‘trash’ and ‘holiday’ instead of ‘vacation’.

“I feel a connection to British people because of my husband. I could be left alone in the UK and get on OK.”

Katy is now trying to enjoy her life more while on her worldwide Hello Katy tour because she barely saw the cities she performed in the last time she was on the road.

She said: “On the last tour it didn’t feel like I was really living. I’d be in Barcelona and people would be saying, ‘You must be loving it!’ and I was like, ‘All I’ve done is try the tomato soup from room service.’ ”

Russell Brand isn’t worried about being typecast

The British funnyman – who is married to pop star Katy Perry – plays the title character in ‘Arthur’, a remake of the Dudley Moore movie about a drunk man and his long-suffering staff, but he thinks his choice of only taking comedic roles shouldn’t be an “issue” when put in context of other global events.

He said: “You know, when you consider the BP oil spill, the gradual ecological devastation of our planet, racism and warm, my being typecast doesn’t seem like such an issue.”

Reformed addict Russell – who is now tee-total – also insisted his own experiences with alcohol and drugs in the past have done little to help him learn about the role because Arthur is a different kind of drunk to how he was.

He told Empire magazine: “Well, Arthur is a merry, twinkly drunk. He’s not a tortured, morally ambivalent, street walking, amoral, self harming psychopath. So my own experiences have been of little use.”

Russell Brand’s marriage to Katy Perry is “ordinary”.

The British comedian insists the pair – who married in October 2010 after dating for just a year – are no different from any other couple and argue about simple things.

He said: “It’s nice to be married to Katy Perry but you’d be surprised how ordinary the marriage is.

“The other day I was wearing a shirt and she said, ‘Are you wearing that shirt out?’ And it was not a proper question, it was like she meant, ‘Get it off’. And I had to take it off.”

However, despite their petty arguments, the former womaniser – who has a history of drug addiction – insists he loves the “normality” of their squabbles and wouldn’t swap his marriage to return to his single days.

He explained while hosting US TV show ‘Saturday Night Live’ at the weekend: “The other day she lent my car to her brother without asking and I was going to get angry but then I thought that’s such a lovely normal problem to have; My wife lent my car to her brother.

“When I think of the problems I used to have which were much more like, ‘Russell, the police are at the door – flush the drugs down the toilet, they’ve got sniffer dogs with them!’ ”

Meanwhile, Katy, 26, treated fans to their first look at footage from her nuptials during her performance at the Grammy Awards last night (13.02.11).

The singer – who was nominated for four awards but left with none – projected pictures of their wedding ceremony in India on to a huge dress which flowed from a swing she was seated upon as she performed ‘Not Like the Movies’.

Katy was accompanied to the ceremony by Russell, 35, and her grandmother, Ann Hudson.

She joked beforehand: “If I don’t go home with any Grammys, I still go home with my Grammy”.

Halle Berry is to make a guest appearance in ‘The Simpsons’

The actress has provided her voice for an Oscar-themed episode of the animated show, in which a cartoon version of herself will wear the famous red dress she donned to accept her Academy Award in 2002.

In the story, entitled ‘Angry Dad: The Movie’, Bart Simpson’s cartoon about an aggressive father is turned into a film and wins huge critical acclaim.

The movie wins a Golden Globe, presented by Russell Brand (voiced by himself), but Bart’s dad Homer races up to the podium ahead of his son and gives his own acceptance speech.

The movie’s winning streak continues and Homer takes credit at each ceremony so when it’s nominated for an Oscar, Bart keeps it quiet from his family.

But Homer and wife Marge arrive at the ceremony just as Halle is presenting the statuette to Bart and after his fellow nominee Nick Park helps him realise that filmmaking is team effort, Bart gives his father some credit.

Speaking about Halle’s cameo, screenwriter Al Jean told TV Guide magazine: “Halle starts talking about herself as she’s presenting. She ad-libbed something she actually dreams about at night that we left in.

“We always ask the subject to give us a photo they’d like us to work off, and then we give the character an overbite. It’s hard to make Halle Berry look bad.”

The episode airs in the US on February 20.

The ‘Firework’ singer knows she has more female fans than male admirers but is confident any guy who is being taken to one of her concerts by their girlfriends this year will enjoy her show.

She said: “That’s the thing with me, I think a lot of girls are bringing their boyfriends along, but the boyfriends aren’t dragging their feet. They will be secretly excited to be coming to see me, I think.”

Katy – who is married to Russell Brand – is also confident she may be able to convince a special guest to put in an appearance at some concerts if their schedules allow for it.

The couple tied the knot in on Saturday (23.10.10) at the luxury Aman-i-Khas resort in Rajasthan, India, which is located near the Ranthambore National Park – which is the country’s leading tiger park and also home to other wildlife including leopards, deer and exotic birds.

A representative for the newlyweds released a statement saying: “Russell Brand and Katy Perry are overjoyed to confirm that they were pronounced Mr. and Mrs. Brand on Saturday, October 23. The very private and spiritual ceremony, attended by the couples’ closest family and friends was performed by a Christian minister and long-time friend of the Hudson Family. The backdrop was the inspirational and majestic countryside of Northern India.”

Russell Brand Has a Date with the City Attorney

Russell Brand’s arrest for a run-in with a paparazzo could be settled in the L.A. City Attorney’s Office … TMZ has learned.

Law enforcement sources tell TMZ the meeting is set for November 19 — during which Brand, the paparazzo and the City Attorney will have a sit-down and try to work out the differences.

Presuming they hash it out, Brand won’t be prosecuted.

As we first reported, Brand was arrested on September 17 after he allegedly attacked a photographer. Brand claims he only lashed out because the photog was trying to snap photos up fiancee Katy Perry’s skirt.

Russell Brand and Katy Perry’s wedding will last a week

The couple – who have been dating since September 2009 – have sent out invitations to their friends and family for the ceremony, which will take place in India later this month.

The white embossed cards said: “Meet you in Delhi in October. Dates to follow. Please allow seven days for this event.”
The pair – who got engaged at the Taj Rambagh Palace hotel in Jaipur on New Year’s Eve last year (31.12.09) and were blessed in a spiritual ceremony in the country days later – are reportedly planning a Hollywood-meets-Bollywood theme and have enlisted celebrity wedding planner Mindy Weiss to arrange their big day.

A source told the Daily Mirror newspaper: “Expect the most vibrant wedding of the year. It will be a mix of traditional Hollywood glamour with Katy’s hair and dress, plus Indian touches like henna art on her hands and feet, an Indian tiara and hair brooches.

“About 75 to 100 guests will be staying at a resort in India and the ceremony is going to be held at an ashram.”
And guests at the glitzy bash will include comedian David Walliams, singers Morrissey and Rihanna, rocker Noel Gallagher and presenter Jonathan Ross.

Katy Perry is surprised her appearance on ‘Sesame Street’ has been axed

The pop star had filmed a segment for the children’s TV show in which she performed a modified version of her track ‘Hot N Cold’ with red puppet Elmo.

A clip of the track was posted on YouTube sparking numerous complaints the low-cut yellow dress Katy was wearing revealed too much cleavage and was unsuitable for younger viewers resulting in bosses cutting the scenes.

On hearing the news, Katy tweeted: “Wow, looks like my play date with Elmo has been cut short!”

The sexy singer’s fiance Russell Brand also took to his twitter page to comment on the decision.

Parodying the famous announcement at the end of each ‘Sesame Street’ episode which reveals which letters and numbers featured in the day’s programme, Russell wrote: “Today’s ‘Sesame Street’ will NOT be brought to you by the number 34 or the letter D. (sic)”

He also made another post parodying the show’s theme tune, saying: “Can you tell me how to get, how to get to Sex-with-me Street? (sic)”

In response to complaints from parents, ‘Sesame Street’ producers released a statement clarifying the clip will not be included in the TV show.

It read: “‘Sesame Street’ has always been written on two levels, for the child and adult. We use parodies and celebrity segments to interest adults in the show

“In light of the feedback we’ve received on the Katy Perry music video which was released on YouTube only, we have decided we will not air the segment on the television broadcast of ‘Sesame Street’, which is aimed at pre-schoolers. Katy Perry fans will still be able to view the video on YouTube.”

Katy Perry and Russell Brand are enjoying a holiday in Graceland

The couple – who are due to marry in the coming weeks after a year-long relationship – have posted a number of pictures on twitter of their escapades at the former Tennessee home of late rock ‘n’ roll legend Elvis Presley.

Russell uploaded a photo of the Elvis and Priscilla Presley Barbie wedding dolls, adding the caption: “Mum. Have moved to the South and made friends with a lovely little couple. Send condoms.”

Katy hinted the couple had “relocated” to the Memphis estate, posting a picture of the pair sitting outside the front door.

The British comic actor – who met Katy at the MTV Video Music Awards in September 2009 – was recently arrested after an altercation with a paparazzi photographer at Los Angeles International Airport and had to post $20,000 bail to be released.

He is due in court on October 15 on charges of simple battery, possibly scuppering plans for him and Katy to marry in India – the same place he proposed to her in the early hours of New Year’s Day (01.01.10).

When Kate agreed to go back to his London home with him Russell admits it was one of the most exciting moments of his life, but also one of the most nerve-wracking.

Russell continues: “To be in her presence in my house doesn’t make sense. It is a baffling fusion of the real and the imagined.

“It’s like looking into the garden and seeing Vegas Elvis mowing the lawn, or going into the kitchen and finding Elvis in the Elvis Comeback Special ’68 suit cooking up beans, or going into the bedroom and there’s Golden Jacket Elvis from ’54.

“Elvis, lying on my bed looking into my eyes. Elvis Presley has entered the building. Of course my mind will not shut up and let me enjoy the moment, there is an endless incessant narrative throughout it.

“The next day, ludicrously, I have to get up and live my normal life.”

Russell Brand In Custody — Citizen’s Arrest

Russell Brand has just been arrested for allegedly attacking paparazzi at LAX airport … TMZ has learned, and it was a citizen’s arrest.

As we first reported, Brand and Katy Perry were going through Delta security when he allegedly began pushing and striking paparazzi.

We’re told a photog — one of the alleged victims — made the citizen’s arrest and LAX cops facilitated it.

Russell Brand Allegedly Attacks Photogs at LAX

We’re learned Russell Brand could be arrested at LAX any moment … for allegedly attacking paparazzi.

Our photog tells TMZ Russell and Katy Perry were going through Delta security when Russell began pushing paparazzi and struck several of them.

One of the cops told a photog they were talking about arresting Brand.

Katy Perry to Appear in After School Special

TMZ has learned Katy Perry has organized a surprise concert for students and staff at her old high school … and it’s all going down today — as soon as the final bell rings.

According to sources close to the singer, Katy is dropping by Dos Pueblos HS near Santa Barbara, CA — where she spent her freshman year — to put on a free concert for the students and faculty.

An employee from the school tells TMZ it was all Katy’s idea — explaining that Perry’s people reached out to them with the proposition … and the school thought it would be a cool experience for the kids.

Obviously, the school is aware of Perry’s “racier” songs — like “I Kissed a Girl” — and that’s why they won’t allow Katy to perform until after classes are out … and students and/or parents that have issues with the content can leave if they so choose.

According to the school employee, Katy was also advised to keep things “school appropriate” – and we’re guessing that means no boob-grabbing.

The ‘Pride and Prejudice’ actor topped a poll of 1,500 women ahead of actors Rupert Everett and Clive Owen, comic Russell Brand and James Bond star Daniel Craig.

Sally Allen, of Wizard Jeans which commissioned the survey, said: “A handsome profile may be heaven-sent but looking good is usually a much more down-to-earth process, concerned with grooming and making the most of your natural attractiveness.

“I’ve heard girls talking about Colin Firth’s brooding good looks when they are probably referring to his demeanour, grooming and image. And that’s something you can work on.

“But it’s unlikely that many men will be able to recreate the magical moment when Mr Darcy came out of the lake, dripping wet – yet positively perfect and sexy – making all the women watching take a very deep breath.”

Original James Bond star Sir Sean Connery, was voted ninth, while soccer superstar David Beckham and actor Orlando Bloom narrowly missed out on the top ten coming in at numbers 11 and 12 respectively.

Katy Perry wants to sleep with Cheryl Cole.

The ‘Teenage Dream’ hitmaker – who was recently a guest judge alongside the Girls Aloud singer, Louis Walsh and Simon Cowell on ‘The X Factor’ – is in awe of the ‘Fight for This Love’ hitmaker and would love to romance her if she wasn’t in a relationship with Russell Brand.

Katy said: “I adore Cheryl – she’s amazing. I’m very happy with my own English stud but if I wasn’t with him I’d be trying to date Cheryl. “Nobody should be as beautiful as she is. I know people get turned on by Simon’s power but if I was single I’d rather sleep with Cheryl than Simon.”

The US star also hinted that Cheryl has landed a role on the US version of ‘The X Factor’ – which is set to launch next year – and says she would love for them to work on music together.

She added: “After ‘The X Factor US’ I think she’ll be a fashion icon. The US is going to love her – and I want to perform with her.”
