The ‘Rehab’ singer – famed for her troubled marriage to drug addict Blake Fielder-Civil, tattoo-covered body and eccentric behaviour – topped a poll by My OK! Wedding magazine, in which readers were asked who would be a terrible spouse.

Joining Amy on the list of bad wives were Lindsay Lohan, Britney Spears, Madonna, Gwyneth Paltrow and Lady Gaga, while Charlie Sheen – who entered rehab last week for drink and drug problems – was named least desirable celebrity husband., closely followed by Mel Gibson and Tom Cruise.

While Amy and Charlie weren’t popular marriage material with readers, Natalie Portman – who is expecting her first child with fiance Benjamin Millepied – was given the title of most desirable celebrity wife, with Britain’s Prince Harry being named as the ultimate husband.

Megan Fox, Katy Perry and Kate Moss all made the top ten for the perfect wife, while Justin Bieber, Robert Pattinson, David Beckham and Harry’s brother Prince William were in the running for ideal husband.

Paul Stacey, a spokesman for My OK! Wedding said: “We were stunned by the results. The least attractive celeb brides and grooms were the party monsters. And I was shocked that Madonna, Lady Gaga and Gwyneth Paltrow were in the least desirable top ten.

Did Really Ricky Gervais Cross The Line @ GG?

by Kavy on Jan.18, 2011, under Actor, Award, Entertainment, updates

Did Really Ricky Gervais Crossed The Line @ GG?Ricky Gervais has been slammed by Golden Globe organisers for his “unacceptable” remarks during the ceremony

The British comedian caused controversy when he mocked a number of stars including Angelina Jolie, Johnny Depp, Robert Downey Jr. and Steve Carrell while hosting the awards show on Sunday (16.01.11) and Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA) president Philip Berk – who was also the subject of jibes by the host – was unimpressed.

He told The Hollywood Reporter: “He definitely crossed the line. And some of the things were totally unacceptable.

“Any of the references to individuals is certainly not something the Hollywood Foreign Press condones.”

The HFPA has reportedly been inundated with angry phone calls from agents claiming their clients were offended but Philip claims his organisation were unaware of what Ricky would say.

He said: “I had absolutely no idea what Ricky was going to say so anything I heard was heard the same time you heard it. When you hire Ricky Gervais you expect the unexpected.”

While Ricky, 49, admitted he was unsure if he would be asked back to host the event for a third time – after also taking charge in 2010 – he claimed he loved the experience and was happy with his performance.

When asked if he had fun, Ricky replied “Oh absolutely. For three hours every year, Hollywood is scared to death of me. It’s great.”

A number of celebrities took to twitter to show their support for the comic.

Legendary broadcaster Larry King writing: “The folks who put on the Globes have no right to complain about Ricky Gervais. He does what he does. Why should it surprise them? You agree?”.

Actress Elizabeth Banks added: “I thought RG was hilarious. Actors can take it. We have thick skins.”

Hugh Hefner responded to a joke Ricky made about the age gap between himself and his 24-year-old fiancee Crystal Harris, saying: “the Golden Globes was a blast. They made fun of everyone, including Crystal & me. A great night. (sic)”

All -In- All Review : ‘Cemetery Junction’ (2010)

by Lisa on Jan.07, 2011, under Actor, Actress, Entertainment, Films, Movies

Ricky GervaisMovie Review of ‘Cemetery Junction’ (2010)

The “big dreams, small town, no chance” premise is a recognisable refrain in literature and motion pictures. Directed by Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant, 2010’s Cemetery Junction is yet another feature to examine this particular quandary. If Gervais and Merchant sound familiar, it’s because they are the dynamic duo responsible for the original British version of the TV show The Office as well as Extras. However, Cemetery Junction is not exactly classic Gervais and Merchant in a strict sense. While the film exhibits wit and provides a number of hearty laughs, at its core it’s a serious drama about life, hope, family, friendship, taking chances and following dreams. Sure, the film never strays far from formula and its conclusion is highly predictable from the outset, but there’s an assurance to the storytelling in addition to several likable characters, strong production values, and a solid blend of humour and heart. Due to these factors, it stands as one of the better pictures of its kind.

Cemetery Junction is set in 1970s England - specifically in Reading, Berkshire where the titular town is located. Freddie Taylor (Cooke) grew up in Cemetery Junction and ends up working at a local factory with his father (Gervais). However, Freddie has larger ambitions – he quits his factory job and begins working for the Vigilant Life Assurance Agency, which is run by former Cemetery Junction resident and local success story Mr. Kendrick (Fiennes). Leaving behind his ’70s attire in favour of slipping on a business suit, Freddie sets out to make a name for himself and kick-start a more affluent future. Not only is this against the wishes of his father, but it also bewilders his two best friends: the reckless Bruce (Hughes) and the absentminded Snork (Doolan). Complications ensue (as they always do) when Freddie reconnects with long-lost crush Julie Kendrick (Jones), who is not only Mr. Kendrick’s daughter but is also engaged to Kendrick’s right-hand man (Goode).

Gervais and Merchant were behind The Office and Extras, but, surprisingly their collaborative film debut is not in the “comedy of awkwardness” vein – rather, Cemetery Junction is a low-key, period coming-of-age tale. It has its amusing moments, sure, but the mood has a tendency to bounce from light-hearted to serious. Unfortunately, Cemetery Junction sticks slavishly to familiar story conventions: Freddie is embarrassed by his friends, misunderstood by his family, and pines for his childhood crush who is engaged to a self-centred dickhead. What’s impressive, though, is how elegantly Gervais and Merchant were able to turn such clichéd plot points and characters into something involving and fresh-feeling. Unsurprisingly, character interaction is one of the strongest aspects of Cemetery Junction; it’s witty and it flows naturally. However – and this is a rather large flaw – the film does not quite connect on any emotional level. It’s difficult to genuinely care about the characters and their situations, though the characters are admittedly likable.

The script was competently translated to the screen through Gervais and Merchant’s fluid, engrossing direction, complemented by absolutely superb production values. The sense of time and place in Cemetery Junction is immaculate. The soundtrack is filled with retro ’70s tunes, demonstrating that the pair of directors have as strong an ear for music as their eyes are for visual composition. This is an unusually beautiful looking British film, as Gervais and Merchant gave the film a lush, warm colour scheme. Remi Adefarasin’s cinematography is so skilful that Cemetery Junction actually looks like a nice place to live in despite Mr. Kendrick’s constant proclamations to the contrary. This is a gentle, sentimentalised 1970s without the menace or depression evoked in, say, the British version of the television series Life on Mars.

Cemetery Junction additionally benefits from several strong performances, particularly courtesy of Christian Cooke and Tom Hughes. Both Cooke and Hughes have limited acting experience, yet each of them wonderfully acquitted themselves with their roles. Cooke is boundlessly charming as Freddie, while Hughes is a scene-stealer as the rebellious yet internally conflicted Bruce. And as Snork, Jack Doolan is the film’s comic relief and was saddled with more conventional Gervais/Merchant material. Doolan’s performance admittedly lacks the depth of Hughes and Cooke’s work, but the actor nonetheless provides a number of inspired moments. Meanwhile, Ralph Fiennes and Matthew Goode clearly had great fun as pig-headed misogynists, with the former nailing insensitivity and with the latter turning up the sleaze dial to 11. Also in the cast is Emily Watson, who’s heartbreakingly touching as Fiennes’ long-suffering wife. And finally, Gervais is as hilarious as ever as Freddie’s father – his banter with Anne Reid is side-splitting.

Thematically and narratively, Cemetery Junction is not all that much different from other coming-of-age stories. Nevertheless, the film possesses genuine warmth and was skilfully executed. It demonstrates that Gervais and Merchant are more than capable of handling a 90-minute comedy-drama despite their cinematic inexperience.

Is Ricky Gervais “stressful” To Work With?

by Kavy on Apr.25, 2010, under Actor, Comedian

Ricky GervaisRicky Gervais is “stressful” to work with.

The British funnyman’s writing partner Stephen Marchant admits that every time they begin work on a new venture, he insists they will never collaborate again because it is just so taxing.

He explained: “I always find filming quite stressful, partly because of the time constraints and partly because of working with Ricky. Every time we finish a project I say I’m never working with you again, I openly say it to him.

“We just sit around and talk endlessly. We use a dictophone now to ad-lib the scene and act it into the dictophone. That way you’re not constrained by thinking what’s the beginning, middle and end because that is what is daunting. We put post-it notes on the wall like ‘Brent does funny dance’ and build ideas around it. In that case Ricky actually did that dance.”

Stephen also explained how Ricky’s infamous dance – performed by his ‘Office’ character David Brent – was inspired by several pop bands.
He told Absolute Radio DJ Christian O’Connell: “Ricky was mucking around showing me how he imagined boy bands like Backstreet Boys to dance and I thought it was the funniest thing I had ever seen.”

Ricky Gervais Plans To Leave All His Assets To Animals

by Alice on Mar.09, 2010, under Actor, Charity

Ricky Gervais

Ricky Gervais plans to leave all his assets to animals.

The comedian insists that people should work hard for their money and he wouldn’t want to make anyone’s life easier by bequeathing them his cash, so would rather donate to charitable organisations which care for living creatures.

He said: “I don’t want to leave my money to people. People should work hard. I’ve worked hard for my money. At the moment I’m sat in the garden where I’ve buried it and I’ve got a gun.”

The ‘Invention of Lying’ star also blasted people who go hunting, admitting he would like to “smack” them in the face.

Asked what he would do if he was Prime Minister of Britain, he told Absolute Radio DJ Christian O’Connell: “I suppose the serious answer would be stopping animal cruelty. Particularly those inbred people who still go hunting when they are not meant to, I’d like to smack them in the mouth.”

Ricky had called the radio station in a bid to win £20,000 for his favourite animal charities as part of their ‘Who’s Calling Christian’ contest.

He joked: “I’ve saved the animals and got a free plug.”

The competition encourages listeners to get a celebrity to ring in for the chance to win £10,000 for themselves and the star’s favourite charity.

If the winning star rings in of their own accord, they get the whole £20,000 to be donated to a charity of their choice.
