Lady Gaga was hospitalised six times last year because of her extreme dieting

The ‘Bad Romance’ singer’s former tour manager, David Ciemny, claims she would binge on junk food such as cakes and sweets, then not eat for weeks to fit into her costumes – once losing 20lbs between fittings for one of her outfits.

Describing her condition, David says in Maureen Callahan‘s new book ‘Poker Face: The Rise and Rise of Lady Gaga’: “When I say she was sick, I mean physically and mentally.”

Talent scout Wendy Starland added: “The pressure on her to lose weight was very high.”

Also in the book, David’s wife Angela claims she used to accompany Gaga on tour alongside her husband, and the ‘Paparazzi’ singer would cuddle up to her in bed before performances.

She said: “I would say, ‘Gaga, I have a husband to go home to. I’ll be in the room next door.’

“She’d call and text me, ‘I miss you, Ange, can you come back?’ So I would.

“We literally would do our make-up together every morning and get ready for bed together at night.”

Despite six hospital stints last year, the 24-year-old star’s health problems have continued into 2010, with her being forced to cancel four US shows in January suffering from an irregular heartbeat, brought on by exhaustion. She also broke down in New Zealand in March and has recently tested “borderline positive” for Lupus, a tissue disease which killed her aunt.

Gaga has previously admitted to being “insecure”, but claims she hides behind her onstage persona.

She said: “When I wake up in the morning, I feel just like any other insecure 24-year-old girl. Then I say, ‘B***h, you’re Lady Gaga, you get up and walk the walk today.”

Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart finally had a moment to themselves the other day — thanks to the actions of some quick thinking cops.

Sources involved in the situation tell us Rob and Kristen were on their way home from LAX airport earlier this week — when they noticed several paparazzi weaving through traffic to keep up.

We’re told … the couple — concerned for their safety — ducked into a nearby police station, hoping the cops could help out.

We’re told the officers figured out a way to sneak the “Twilight” stars out of the building … and they were able to get back on the road … without the paps on their tail.

Alexander Skarsgard admits fame is “scary”.

The 33-year-old actor had his first taste of success at 13 after he appeared in ‘The Dog That Smiled‘ and admits the attention he received afterwards almost made him quit acting for good.

He said: “It made feel self-conscious, and I couldn’t deal with it. I didn’t like people recognising me. Fame was scary. When people stared at me in the street, it got confusing. It made me really uncomfortable. Then when I was 20, I decided to give acting one last go.”

Since getting back into acting, the Swedish heart throb has also starred in Lady Gaga’s music video for ‘Paparazzi‘ – where he played her boyfriend who attempted to kill her- and has revealed it’s something he would like to do more of because it caused such a sensation.

He added: “You can work on a movie for three months and no one sees it, then you do something like that for six hours and that’s what people talk about. That’s my new career. I’m just going to quit acting and do music videos from now on!”

Lady Gaga broke down on stage last night (27.05.10) during an emotional tribute to her sick grandfather.

The ‘Paparazzi’ singer – who was performing the first show of her second UK ‘Monster Ball Tour’ in Nottingham, England – dedicated her performance of ‘Brown Eyes’ to her ill relative and had to wipe tears from her eyes during the song.

She told the audience: “If we all sing loud enough, maybe he can hear us!”

Although she was clearly upset, the flamboyant pop star continued her dramatic concert which has an enormous stage production.

The 24-year-old singer has previously described her stage show as “ostentatious and over-the-top”.

She said: “For the next version of the ‘Monster Ball‘, I’m throwing out the stage. My team thinks I’m completely psychotic. But I don’t f***ing care what they think.

“Just to give you an idea, the stage is about four times the size of the first one and conceptually, it’s completely different. One thing that has been lost over the past 10-15 years, in pop music, is the idea of showbiz. And this is definitely bringing it back.”

Lady Gaga telephoned a “sweet and talented” schoolboy to praise him for his cover of ‘Paparazzi’.

The chart-topping pop star gave 12-year-old student Greyson Michael Chance – who has become an internet sensation after his rendition of the song became a YouTube hit – a surprise telephone call, where she encouraged him to avoid girls and work hard towards a singing career.

Greyson, who performed on ‘The Ellen DeGeneres Show’ yesterday (13.05.10), answered: “Hi, Miss Gaga.”

The blonde beauty told him: “Greyson, you’re so sweet and so talented, and I was so excited that you covered ‘Paparazzi’. Everyone loves you so much. Just keep following your dreams and work really hard, and stay away from girls and be focused.”

The video of Greyson – who also writes his own music – shows him effortlessly playing the piano and belting out his own version of the song on stage, as amazed school pals look on.

The clip has been viewed by over 10 million people on the video sharing website and thousands of fans have commented on the youngster’s natural talent.

One wrote: “I got goose bumps listening to his voice. Very talented! Just beautiful.”

Another said: “I was in total shock when I found out you were 12. Greyson, your voice is amazing! You have that rare tone of vocals that drives girls crazy.”

Katie Price is to have a cameo in the film of her life.

The glamour model is in negotiations to have her autobiographies adapted for the big screen and wants to appear in the movie briefly.

She said: “When I was in America I did talk to producers. I’ve always said I’ll do a movie. Once my next autobiography is out it will be made. “There’s a film made by Mel Gibson, ‘Paparazzi’, in which he makes a cameo I shall do something like that. It will be a good movie and it will happen believe me!”

The 31-year-old brunette is currently working on her latest autobiography and will hand it over to producers when it is complete along with her previous books so work can start on the script.

She said: “I’ve got four autobiographies, well, they’re four diaries. I’ve found a producer and he’s already got three of them – I’m giving him the other one and that’s what they’re doing.”

Katie released her first autobiography, ‘Being Jordan’, in May 2004 and subsequent instalments, ‘Jordan: A Whole New World’ and ‘Pushed to the Limit’, in April 2006 and February 2008 respectively.

Her latest book will concentrate on her acrimonious split and subsequent divorce from Peter Andre and her new marriage to cage-fighter Alex Reid.

Lady Gaga says being gay is not a choice.

The 23-year-old singer, who has previously discussed her own bisexuality at length, believes homosexual men and women are “born” that way.

Gaga – who claims her new video ‘Telephone’ is “groundbreaking” because she showcases of different types of sexuality in the nine-minute promo – said: “There are transsexual women and transgender women and suddenly it becomes poisonous and something else because there are some people in this world that believe being gay is a choice. It’s not a choice, we’re born this way.

“That’s why for me this video is groundbreaking because it has one foot in the art community and one foot in the commercial world.”

The ‘Paparazzi’ singer stars in the video with Beyonce Knowles – who also lends her vocals to the track – and prior to recording Gaga promised Beyonce it would be a classic.

She added in an interview 2Day FM’s Kyle and Jackie O radio show: “I told Beyonce this after it aired, you’ll see this video is not just great now but six months from now what this video will mean.

“Hearing people say the video is sadomasochistic or that the video promotes murder for young people, it’s my personal belief that the video is getting so much attention, not because of those themes because I’ve done those themes before, haven’t I?

“I’ve done those themes in many of my videos but it’s because it’s with Beyonce and it’s because there are so many homosexual themes.”

In the video Gaga kisses a female prison warden, is broken out of jail by Beyonce, kills someone and makes a poisoned sandwich for a group of truckers.

In the past the eccentric pop star has admitted she could easily fall in love with a woman.

She said: “Of course. There are no rules or limits when it comes to love. But I see love as separate from sex.”

The eccentric star has revealed her life spiralled into a world of heavy drug use in a bid to replicate the lifestyles of her musical idols.

The ‘Paparazzi’ singer would lock herself in her bedroom and snort “bags and bags” of cocaine for songwriting inspiration when she was starting out, but realised she was jeopardising her life when she recalled her aunt Joanne who died at 19.

Gaga – real name Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta – said: “I thought I was going to die. I wanted to be the artists I loved, like Mick Jagger and Andy Warhol, and I thought the only way to do it was to live the lifestyle. My cocaine soundtrack was always The Cure. I would lock myself in my room and listen to ‘Never Enough’ on repeat while I did bags and bags of cocaine.

“But then I realised my father’s sister Joanne, who died at 19, had instilled her spirit in me. She was a painter and a poet – and I had a spiritual vision I had to finish her business.”

The 23-year-old pop beauty – who began experimenting with cocaine and the hallucinogenic drug LSD after she dropped out of her course at New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts when she was 20 – insists her late auntie is still a huge influence on her career.

Gaga – who won two Grammys last weekend – added in new biography ‘Lady Gaga: Just Dance: The Biography’ by Helia Phoenix: “I never met her, but she’s been one of the most important figures in my life.”

The unnamed paparazzo was hurt as the vehicle carrying Lindsay accelerated away from Hollywood bar the Hotel Cafe. The 23-year-old actress was not driving.

Although the man did not go to hospital, he claimed he was “lucky to be alive” after the incident.

The photographer also claimed the driver of the car – who now faces a criminal probe – was wearing sunglasses while driving down the dark alley.

He reportedly added: “I’m going to sue them, but I don’t care about the money. I want to press charges so badly – she’s going to jail.”

A spokesperson for the Los Angeles Police Department, Sergeant Vasquez, said: “I was informed by an officer that a vehicle had sped away at a high rate of speed and hit a paparazzi photographer causing an injury to his hand, his wrist.”

Authorities are investigating the incident, but are not treating it as a hit-and-run.

‘Mean Girls’ actress Lindsay is currently on three years’ probation, after pleading guilty to drink driving and drug charges, part of a plea bargain made by the star in August 2007.

She said: “I was fearless with my ambitions. I had this dream and really wanted to be a star.

“I left my family, school and said I want to do it alone. I got three jobs waitressing. I was good at serving Italian food in heels.

The ‘Dark Knight’ star and husband Peter Sarsgaard are usually able to walk around New York unnoticed so were amazed when “tons” of paparazzi came into a cafe where they were enjoying coffee, only to then be ignored.

She told website E! Online: “There were a ton of paparazzi in the cafe with their huge cameras and laptops. I was like, ‘Peter, oh my God, they are so into us. They’re swarming us. We are so important.’

“It turns out Katie Holmes and Tom Cruise were living on that street. It was the winter, so the photographers would go into the cafe to download their pictures.”

Maggie is currently promoting ‘Crazy Heart’, the first movie she worked on after giving birth to daughter Ramona three years ago, and admits she finds it difficult to balance parenthood with her career.

She said: “Every night you can’t put your kid to sleep, that’s pretty intense. In my family, that’s a big kind of get-together time – dinner, bath and stories and then bed.”

However, the actress insists it is very important for her to work and be a mother.

She explained: “When my daughter was about 15 months, I started to feel like, ‘Oh my God, I’ve just been completely focused on being a mother for a long time. I just got overwhelmed, this feeling of, ‘I’m an actress, too.’

“You can’t be an empty shell and be a good mother, too.”

The reality TV star was taken to the Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles after complaining of feeling unwell and doctors quickly diagnosed her as suffering from the illness.

Her representative said: “Nicole has checked into Cedars-Sinai where she is being treated for pneumonia. She is doing well.”

Over the weekend, Nicole – who has two children, 22-month-old Harlow and two-month-old Sparrow with partner Joel Madden – had spoken about not feeling well.

She said: “For months they have been following me prior to the October 5 accident and they continued to pursue me even after the accident. I have been diagnosed with something now and I don’t feel good.”

Speaking about the incident, which happened following a lunch with her mother, Nicole recalled: “I was on foot, I got in my car to drive east to go to a business meeting. They were cutting each other off, to lobby for a better position. They were trying to get in front of me or beside me, I was following my mom. I crossed on yellow. They ran the red light in order to follow me. Then I stopped, then out of nowhere, a car slammed right into me.”

The judge has ruled the two men are to stay 50 yards away from Nicole and her two children – 22-month-old Harlow and two-month-old Sparrow – for the next three years.

Although the 28-year-old beauty mistakenly referred to partner Joel Madden as her husband while testifying, he will not be covered by the order as they are not legally wed.

Beyonce Knowles won three awards at the MTV Europe Music Awards last night (05.11.09).

The ‘Sweet Dreams’ singer – who wowed crowds with a performance of her latest track while wearing a skimpy red corset and suspenders – was the most successful star of the night as she was awarded the prize for Best Song for her track ‘Halo’, Best Video for her hit record ‘Single Ladies (Put A Ring On It)’ and also scooped the Best Female Singer honour.

The 28-year-old beauty’s win completely overshadowed Lady Gaga, who had been nominated for five awards but only went home with the Best New Act prize.

Ceremony presenter Katy Perry, 25, was so starstruck by the singer-and-actress, she almost “p****d” herself with nerves and excitement when they met.

The ‘I Kissed a Girl’ singer admitted she was terrified about running into the curvy singer and fellow chart-topper Lady Gaga in case they judged her on her skimpy stage outfits and cheeky presenting style.

She said: “I’m totally petrified about what those girls will think, but I’m doing it in my own way, not to be taken too seriously – like everything I do.

“I saw Beyonce and nearly p****d myself – she’s such a force.”

Busty brunette Katy – who changed her outfit 12 times during the ceremony – teased the crowd with a host of sexy anecdotes and at one stage, even joked about the ‘Poker Face’ star – who has been plagued by rumours she is a hermaphrodite.

However, the night was deemed a huge success by rapper Jay-Z, who won the Best Urban award and Irish rock band U2, who were given the Best Live Act award.

The renowned music acts raced to the ceremony together after the US superstar made a surprise on-stage appearance with the rockers in front of 10,000 fans at Brandenburg Gate.

The ‘Paparazzi’ singer is preparing to release a deluxe version of her new album ‘The Fame Monster’ as a special-edition art book next month with a number of bizarre gifts, including a piece of her blonde hair, a personal note from the songstress and a jigsaw puzzle.

The collector’s sets will also be filled with pictorials, posters, fanzines, paper dolls, 3D glasses and a behind-the-scenes look at her bizarre life.

As well as all the hits from the 2008 LP ‘The Fame’, the updated album will feature eight new tracks, including ‘Telephone’ – a duet with Beyonce Knowles.

Gaga is currently rehearsing hard for ‘The Monster Ball Tour’, which will coincide with the updated LP.

She explained: “I’ve been training for two hours a day to get ready for this. I sing on the treadmill! I do cardio and weights on top of my rehearsals. I want to get my whole body in prime condition so I can carry the show.”

The singer – who is known for her outrageous fashion choices and party lifestyle – also admitted she has tried hard to look “interesting” while allowing her to grow in self confidence.

She explained to Canada’s Flare magazine: “Fashion saved my life. It was complete liberation… it made me feel powerful, ambitious and much more resilient.

“We all need an image that screams, ‘I’m an individual!’ I think Jennifer Aniston is beautiful – she’s gorgeous – but I prefer to look interesting rather than pretty.”

‘The Fame Monster’ is due for release in the US on November 24.
