Jude Law still uses public transport

The 38-year-old actor – who has children Rafferty, 14, Iris, 10, and eight-year-old Rudy with ex-wife Sadie Frost, as well as 22-month-old Sophia with Samantha Burke –tries to lead as normal a life as he possibly can as he thinks that will reduce the attention he receives in his personal life.

He said: “I’ve created a haven that works for me and my family. I still enjoy a very normal life with my kids. We use trains and busses and that’s often the best way.

“If you build up some sort of psychological bubble around you, I think you’re asking for trouble.”

Despite his worldwide fame, Jude insists he doesn’t think of himself as a “celebrity” because he doesn’t seek attention.

He explained in an interview with The Observer newspaper: “I hate the word celebrity, which means I’m in some messy, mushy sort of bracket with people who have won reality shows and chefs and socialites and it’s just not something I see myself as.

“I don’t invite people into my home and I’ve never courted the press unless I’m talking to them about some work I’m doing. And I don’t do that very much.”

Jude Law is “shocked” at Sienna Miller’s decision to end their relationship.

The ‘Sherlock Holmes’ actor and the 29-year-old beauty have split for a second time and although it was claimed the separation was a mutual decision it has been alleged the actress was responsible for the break-up.

A source told the Daily Mail newspaper: “Clearly things aren’t particularly rosy in Jude’s personal life.

“All I can say is that’s he’s gone through a rough time. These things are hard – it’s awful. The good thing is that he’s busy. He’ll keep on working. He’s shocked by this.”

While Jude has been spending time with ex-wife Sadie Frost – the mother of his three children, Rafferty, 14, Iris, 10 and Rudy, eight – in the wake of the split, Sienna has reportedly grown close to Joe Armstrong, her co-star in new West End play ‘Flare Path’.

The pair have been enjoying each other’s company outside of rehearsals, but Sienna is not yet ready to date.

A source said: “Sienna is still young and, in time, wants to get back out on the dating scene.

“For now, she’s burying her head in work. Her colleagues have been brilliant. She gets on really well with Joe in particular and they’ve been hanging out a bit outside of the theatre.”

Robert Downey Jr. employs a “crystal man” to repel negative forces around him

The 45-year-old actor – who battled drug addiction for several years and was even jailed because of his habit – thinks having someone on the set of ‘Sherlock Holmes 2‘ to carry special crystals help “repent his soul” for the damage he did to his body when he was hooked on heroin ,cocaine and crystal meth.

A source told BANG Showbiz: “This guy dressed all in white has been following Robert around with a briefcase ever since filming began. After a couple of weeks, one of the crew members thought it was a bit weird and asked him what he was doing.

“He explained the briefcase contained a set of crystals which apparently channel good energy from a pyramid in Los Angeles. Robert demands they go everywhere with him to help repent his soul for all the damage he did to his body when he was on drugs.”

Downey was jailed for three years in 1999 for heroin, cocaine and possession of a handgun. The actor – who stars opposite Jude Law and Rachel McAdams in ‘Sherlock Holmes’ – told the judge who sentenced him that he had been addicted to drugs since the age of eight.

The ‘Iron Man‘ star – who has been sober since 2001 – has previously insisted he wasn’t changed by prison. He said: “I do think there’s something divine about large-scale humiliation, but no, it never worked for me. It never produced enough of a blow back for me to catch the drift. It doesn’t so much produce results as just get your attention – you become a fish in a barrel and there’s really something quite beautiful about that.

“Jail didn’t help me any more or less than anything else. But I know I created that experience for a reason, and I’m only just starting to understand those reasons. Remember this is California, ‘Come on vacation, leave on probation.’ I mean, I can’t believe I stayed out of
the pen for as long as I did.”

Sienna Miller admits she isn’t a “perfect person”

The 29-year-old actress – who is engaged to actor Jude Law for the second time after rekindling their romance in 2009, three years after they separated – insists her profession doesn’t mean she should be judged for the decisions she makes in her personal life.

Sienna – who has previously dated actors Rhys Ifans and Balthazar Getty – told the Daily Mail newspaper: “I didn’t know actors were supposed to be perfect people.”

One aspect of her professional life which Sienna is looking forward to is returning to the stage in London to star in Terence Rattigan’s ‘Flare Path’– in which she plays a former actress caught in a love triangle – because it is such understated drama.

She said of the dialogue: “Its stiff upper lip. And that stiff upper lip hides characters’ true feelings. “

Sienna also said the play’s director, Trevor Nunn, had given her great advice practicing for the show.

She explained: “Once we’re in the rehearsal room there’s no one like Trevor to tell a story like this, and to uncover the subtext.”

Rehearsals for the play begin at the end of January, with the opening night on March 10.

Gwyneth Paltrow got drunk “all the time” when filming ‘Country Strong’

The 38-year-old actress – who used to adhere to a strict macrobiotic diet – claims it was “awesome” getting into character to portray an alcoholic singer in the movie, though she admits her approach wasn’t very professional.

She quipped: “You just get really drunk all the time. Which is awesome! At least I did anyway, it’s not very professional. There’s a Bloody Mary at 10 am and keep it going all day!

“It was actually very liberating and amazing to play somebody who just didn’t think about consequences because I’m so responsible with my life, and too worried about everybody and my kids and where’s everybody going.”

Gwyneth – who has two children, Apple, six, and four-year-old Moses, with her 33-year-old husband Chris Martin – has starred opposite a string of hunky actors in her movies, including Jude Law and former fiance Brad Pitt, but says Tom Cruise was her favourite co-star.

She told TV talk show host Rachael Ray in an episode due to air tomorrow (07.01.11): “I did a little cameo at the beginning of ‘Austin Powers 3’, I think it was, and I got to make out with Tom Cruise. He was an amazing kisser!”

Sienna Miller wishes she had Keira Knightley’s life.

The ‘Factory Girl’ star – who is in a relationship with Jude Law – befriended the actress when they worked together on ‘The Edge of Love’ and is in awe of the quiet home life her pal has with boyfriend Rupert Friend.

Sienna said: “She and Rupert live a wonderful life. They read books and discuss topics and cook for their friends. “It’s the kind of life I aspire to – I don’t know if they even watch TV. “But don’t be fooled and think she is a goody-goody. She can be a bloody good laugh.”

Keira loves spending time at home and admits among her favorite things to do is spend hours baking in her kitchen or browsing markets for unique additions to her house.

She told Britain’s Vogue magazine: “I really do have baking days. I make all sorts of cakes and breads.

“I love going to the markets really early to find things for my house – it’s full of stuff from markets; rugs, tables, chairs, anything I can get my hands on.”

Jude Law and Sienna Miller have reportedly celebrated their love in a marriage blessing ceremony in Southeast Asia

The couple – who are believed to be engaged – apparently took part in a traditional ‘Baci’ ceremony during a holiday in Laos, Southeast Asia, where their love was blessed by a village shaman, who tied their wrists together with red-and-white bracelets.

Prince Nithakong Somanith – cultural and artistic adviser to the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation – met with the couple during their holiday and told them all about the ceremony, which is not legally binding, before sending them into the hills to meet the shaman.

He explained to Mail Online: “The Baci ceremony is performed everywhere and was also performed at the Royal Court.

“It usually takes place on the morning of the wedding and is followed by the wedding blessing by monks and feasting and drinking beer and rice alcohol in the evening. Jude Law and Sienna Miller will already be man and wife in people’s eyes here.”

During their romantic holiday to the tropical destination, the pair spent two nights at the Amantaka Hotel, from where they went on bike rides and saw the local sights.

Hotel manager Gary Tyson said: “They behaved just like the other backpackers who pass through here.

“They took bicycles out in the day time and went to the local markets and restaurants and from what I understand they were not bothered by anyone and were hardly noticed.”

The pair reconciled their romance 10 months ago after a three-year break, and are believed to be about to buy a £3.5 million house together.

It seems a very tough competition for Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart and co-star Taylor Lautner for the award of Best Performer of the Year. British National Movie Awards is based on votes from the public, who make their choices online and on the phone.

The 28-year-old actress – who reconciled her romance with actor Jude Law at the end of last year while they were both staring in theatre productions on New York’s Broadway – has reportedly agreed to travel back to the US to stay with the ‘Alfie’ star while he works on his new movie ‘Contagion’.

A source told the Mail on Sunday newspaper: “Sienna is determined to make it work with Jude this time.

“She doesn’t want to let him out of her sight. She loves him and wants them to stay together, so she is prepared to move wherever he is.”

It was recently claimed that Jude – who saw his engagement to Sienna end in 2005 when he slept with his children’s nanny – has asked the actress to move into his London home.

While the Factory Girl’ star agreed, cautious Sienna has insisted on keeping her own house in case things go wrong again.

A source said: “Jude has promised there will be no affairs and Sienna demands total honesty.

The actor plays the fictional English detective’s sidekick Dr. Watson in the new film of the same name but confesses he was unaware of the literary character created by Arthur Conan Doyle before agreeing to the role.

He said: “Yes, I’m English, but I never really read the ‘Sherlock’ books as a boy. This was a new literary discovery for me, but a great one because as an adult I was able to sit down and love the source material. Believe me when I say it’s a good thing to grab a mug of tea and curl up with a great ‘Sherlock Holmes’ book.”

As well as being impressed with the books, Jude was also blown away by how the film’s director Guy Ritchie and the production team were able to recreate 19th Century England.

The 37-year-old star said: “The production designers did an amazing job embellishing historic England. The details were exquisite. I really felt as I had taken a time travel back into history.”

Jude stars in the action blockbuster alongside Robert Downey Jr. – who plays the titular detective.

The British actor – who portrays the title character’s sidekick Watson in the Guy Ritchie blockbuster – was left uncomfortable and hungry while wearing the old-fashioned attire because the restricting collar meant it was difficult for him to swallow his lunch.

He explained: “I had to wear this terribly stiff, tight collar as part of my costume which was just horrible. On the first day I actually tried staying in character and wearing it to lunch. It was like trying to swallow sushi with a razor blade around my neck!”

The ‘Alfie’ star recently admitted he thought he was “insane” to sign up to the movie.

He only agreed to the part when he heard Robert Downey Jr. would be portraying the famous fictional detective.

He said: “I met Robert Downey Jr. and wanted to work with him and so I said I’d do ‘Sherlock Holmes’. Two days later I thought, ‘What am I doing? This is insane because is it really what I want to do?’

“Luckily, it evolved into a wonderful experience.”

The 41-year-old British director – whose 2002 movie ‘Swept Away’ starring his ex-wife Madonna, 51, flopped at the cinema and went straight to DVD in the UK – said he wasn’t upset by the critics, because you have to do some things wrong in order to know what works.

He said: “’Swept Away’ was always going to have a limited audience. The idea was that it was going to be a small film…  but you can’t do small films with the ex.”

The romantic comedy was a disaster at the box office, just like his 2005 film ‘Revolver’ which starred Jason Stratham, but Guy said he doesn’t take too much criticism on board, and in fact, ‘Revolver’ was still his favourite movie.

He said:  “I think on reflection it always will be. Celebrity culture can only be capricious and ephemeral, sometimes you are in synch with what everybody wants, sometimes you are not.”

Speaking to The Sunday Times newspaper, Guy said one of the best things about making his newest film, ‘Sherlock Holmes’ – starring Jude Law and Robert Downey Jr. – was the huge £80 million budget he was given.

He said: “It was good having deep pockets, I never had deep pockets before.”

The actor initially had doubts about starring in ‘Sherlock Holmes’, but because of his new mantra, he was desperate not to miss out on working with such a highly-regarded actor.

He said: “That was in my mind when I met Robert for the first time. I wanted to work with him, so I said I’d do ‘Sherlock Holmes’. Then, of course, two days later I thought, ‘What am I doing? I’m going to play Dr. Watson and this is insane because is it really what I want to do?

“Luckily it evolved into a wonderful experience.”

Jude also used the role to dispel previous beliefs his character was “bumbling and stupid”.

He explained to the Daily Mirror newspaper: “One of the dynamics missing from the earlier film interpretations was a more accurate representation of Watson.

“There’s no mention in Conan Doyle’s stories of him being bumbling and stupid. That came about in the earlier movies because actor Basil Rathbone wanted a comic actor to play opposite him so that he looked more important and more serious in comparison. I rather liked the opportunity of bringing back some of the more accurate and edgy qualities.”

The 31-year-old actress – who starred alongside Lindsay in 2004 movie ‘Mean Girls’ – said she was surprised by how well the then-17-year-old star took direction on board, but admitted Lindsay loved to go out all the time.

She said: “I just remember marvelling about how much she knew as an actor, how much she understood.

The actor brushed off reports he has reconciled with ex-girlfriend Sienna Miller by insisting he only has eyes for his ‘Sherlock Holmes’ co-star.

Speaking at the ‘Sherlock Holmes’ premiere in London’s Leicester Square last night (14.12.09), Jude pointed at Robert and said: “The only person I’m in love with is sitting on my left. I am here on a night out with the boys.

“The flirting started the minute we met. It was based on mutual respect and admiration.”

Meanwhile, director Guy Ritchie spoke about why he chose to cast Jude, who plays the role of sidekick Watson to Downey Jr’s Holmes.

He said: “We’ve coined the phrase Hotson. I wanted a good-looking Watson.”

Despite his pin-up status on set, Guy insisted that Jude was a calming influence on him and Robert.

He said: “He was the father to two wayward sons.”

Among the celebrities in attendance on the red carpet were stars of the film Rachel McAdams and Kelly Reilly, as well as Princes William and Harry and singer Gwen Stefani.

The ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’ star has been awarded the title by the US magazine People for the second time, after first being given the accolade in 2003. He is the third man to gain the honour twice, matching George Clooney and Brad Pitt.

A spokesperson for the publication said: “At 46, the father of two still reigns as Hollywood’s most irresistible iconoclast; as one-of-a-kind as his beloved 15-year-old boots and as smouldering as his favourite Cuban cigars.

“He has had women swooning since his days as a teen detective on ‘21 Jump Street’.”

False reports had circulated earlier this week that ‘Twilight’ star Robert Pattinson had been awarded the title.

Hugh Jackman will also be pleased, as earlier this month he told how he was looking forward to passing on the Sexiest Man Alive title he was awarded last year so he could stop taking care of himself.

He said: “The pressure’s off. I can be a slob again. I thought there were thousands of other guys that deserved it, but it’s been a great year.”

The British supermodel threw a model-themed birthday party for friend Sadie Frost’s nine-year-old daughter Iris – her child with actor Jude Law – and taught the birthday girl and her own daughter Lila Grace, seven, her catwalk skills for a special show.

A source told Britain’s MailOnline website: “Kate had been teaching Iris and Lila Grace how to model and how to walk the catwalk properly in preparation for the party. They could hardly have a better teacher.

“All of the girls at the bash wanted to be Kate. She brought along lots of clothes for them and the girls had their hair and make-up done especially. She was teaching them how to master her famous hip swagger and her ‘I don’t care look.’ ”

The party went so well that Iris and Lila Grace now both want to be models like Kate.

The supermodel – who is currently dating The Kills guitarist Jamie Hince – also threw out all the stops for her daughter Lila’s seventh birthday in September where she spent weekssupermodel preparing for the karaoke bash.

A source said at the time: “Kate is pulling out all the stops to give her a really memorable day. It’s a karaoke party and Kate is really looking forward to belting a few numbers out.”

The British pair – who started a romance on the set of ‘Alfie’ in 2004 but split two years later after Jude had an affair with his children’s nanny – have had a series of secret meetings in New York where they are both currently starring in Broadway shows.

A source said: “Sienna and Jude have met up a few times and got on really well.

“Sienna had her heart broken by Jude, but she was young and it was the first time she’d fallen in love.

“What people don’t realise is that they always remained close, so who knows where this will lead to next.”

Jude recently hit the headlines after fathering a daughter, new born Sophia, following a brief fling with aspiring model Samantha Burke, and insiders claim they want to keep their romance under wraps to avoid further controversy.

The source added: “They’re desperate to keep their hook-ups secret because their break-up was so public. They don’t want any potential reconciliation all over the papers, especially with Jude having just fathered a child with another woman.”

In order to keep their secret, the couple have enlisted the help of Johnny Lee Miller, who is currently starring in ‘After Miss Julie’ with Sienna.

The source explained to Now magazine: “Jonny’s great at throwing the paparazzi off the scent. He’ll walk down the street with Sienna to where Jude’s staying just round the corner.”

A spokesperson for Jude – who is currently starring in play ‘Hamlet’ -has confirmed the former couple have met up, while the ‘Factory Girl’ actress – who still wears the diamond engagement ring given to her by the actor – has insisted there is nothing “weird” about them spending time together.

She said: “People would love to make a whole meal out of it, but I’ve seen ‘Hamlet’ twice now and there’s no weirdness for me personally that he’s there and I’m here.”
