The singer-and-actress is set to wed NFL star Eric Johnson after he proposed to her on Thursday (11.11.10), six months after they started dating.

Her representative said: “Yes, I am excited to confirm that they are engaged.”

The 30-year-old star – who was previously married to Nick Lachey for three years until they split in 2005 – showed off her diamond engagement ring yesterday (13.11.10) during a photocall in Kansas while promoting her Jessica Simpson Collection fashion line.

The ‘Come On Over’ hitmaker began dating Eric in May, three months after the sportsman filed for divorce from stylist Keri Johnson.

News of Jessica’s engagement comes just weeks after her ex-husband Nick announced he is set to marry his current partner, Vanessa Minnillo.

Jessica previously hinted she wanted to marry Eric, 31, and have children with him.

She said recently: “I am from the south so I’ve definitely dreamed of being married my whole life and having children, so hopefully that’s in my future.”

The blonde beauty also praised the footballer for making her happier than ever.

She said: “He definitely makes me very happy. He brings out a lot of light in me and makes me very comfortable being who I am. It’s nice to be with somebody who praises you for the right reasons.”

The ‘Dukes of Hazzard’ actress and singer – who is famous for her fluctuating weight – is happy with her current slender US size six figure but admits she wishes she could change her shape and have a bigger butt.

She said: “I have a white girl booty. I don’t have a big butt. I’d rather have a happy medium and take some off my chest and put it towards my butt so I could balance out a bit.”

The 30-year-old blonde beauty also admitted she can’t understand why her changing weight attracts so much attention.

She told Closer magazine: “People talked about my weight for an entire year. Being famous for gaining 10lbs is ridiculous! I didn’t feel as fat as everybody was making me out to be.

Jessica Simpson’s friends fear her new boyfriend is using her to get famous

The singer-and-actress began dating ex-NFL player Eric Johnson last month but her pals are worried he is just using Jessica so he can raise his profile.

Speaking about Eric – who graduated from the prestigious Yale University – a friend of Jessica’s said: “I don’t care if he’s so smart and all that, I get the sense he’s more interested in people knowing he’s dating Jessica Simpson rather than truly caring about Jess and her needs.”

According to the Chicago Sun-Times newspaper, another friend insists he is a “fame whore… the kind of guy who is really into dating famous women”.

Eric further raised suspicions among Jessica’s pals by dropping out of a two-year MBA business course at the University of Pennsylvania to study the prestigious Wharton school so he could spend more time with Jessica.

However, friends of Eric – who split from his wife earlier this year and filed for divorce in February – insist his feelings are genuine and he is smitten with the blonde star.

One pal argued: “Bulls**t! That’s totally ridiculous and wrong. He is a really good guy and he’s as nuts about Jessica as she is about him.”

Jessica Simpson is in Italy celebrating her 30th birthday with new boyfriend Eric Johnson — and sources tell us the entire vacation has been nothing short of “magical.”

We’re told Jessica, Eric, her best friends and her family have been swimming, boating and hiking around the island of Capri — where the food has been incredible.

TMZ has learned Jessica Simpson has a new boyfriend and he is not a current NFL player — he’s a former one.

Sources tell TMZ Jessica is dating ex San Francisco 49ers tight end Eric Johnson. He last played for the New Orleans Saints back in 2008. Johnson split from his wife earlier this year, filing for divorce in February.

Simpson — whose show, “The Price of Beauty,” returns VH1 in 2011 -- began dating Johnson in May.

A source tells us they are “very happy.”

The singer-and-actress was eating a meal with friends at the Beverley Hills Hotel Polo Lounge recently when a morsel of food accidentally flew off her fork and disappeared down her low-cut top, causing her to scream out in surprise.

The US star dug around to retrieve the food stuff, “ruffling up” her top in such a way that fellow diners in the restaurant were becoming so uncomfortable they had to look away.

A source told the National Enquirer magazine Jessica “not only dug down into her top, ruffling through bra and cleavage, she even tried burrowing out from beneath, wriggling and digging diligently for the lost tidbit.”

When she finally gave up the hunt, the 29-year-old star joked: “Oh well… it’ll pop up eventually!”

Despite her nearly X-rated display, Jessica previously complained when she accidentally saw an elderly man’s private parts at the gym.

John Mayer thinks twitter is “over”.

The ‘Gravity’ singer – one of the most high-profile users of the social networking website – admits he is growing tired of micro-blogging and is preparing to cancel his account on the site, unless its owners change its purpose.

He said: “Within in the last couple weeks, every night I think about cancelling my twitter account because I think it’s pretty much done.

“I just think twitter as a form of communication, I think it’s over to be honest with you.

“I would rather see twitter be a cork board of links to other more important things, because it’s really sort of flawed from the beginning. I can’t tell you how many times I meet people or I’m having dinner with people who write stuff and they get upset they have haters now, like, ‘Why do I want to invent more reasons to have haters?’ ”

The musician – who has previously dated stars including Jennifer Aniston and Jessica Simpson – has come to realise that he could utilise his time better than spending his free moments on the internet.

He added: “I might as well spend that time making a sandwich or building a model ship or something.

“My challenge going forward is to basically disregard the need, the obsessive need for external validation.”

It has previously been claimed that the 32-year-old singer’s relationship with Jennifer ended because of his obsession with twitter.

A source explained at the time: “John suddenly stopped calling her or returning her emails and when she would finally catch up with him, he’d say, ‘I’ve been so busy with work. I’m sorry I haven’t had time to email you back.’

Jessica Simpson has been left “embarrassed” after John Mayer said she was “sexual napalm” in bed.

The 29-year-old singer and actress admits the situation left her questioning why men were looking at her when she was out and about.

She said: “My phone has been ringing. It’s more embarrassing. I’ll walk into a restaurant or something. I’ll walk and feel like men are looking at me – but I feel like they’re undressing me.”
