Miley Cyrus has won an inspirational award

The 18-year-old actress-and-singer – who has been named as the worst celebrity influence for the past two consecutive years – was presented with the first-ever Global Action Youth Leadership Award for the positive impact she has on young people’s attitudes at a gala in Los Angeles on Friday (18.02.11) by her idol Hilary Duff.

Accepting the accolade, she said: “I got to tell you that I never thought I would get an award from Hilary Duff. This is like a dream come true to me. She inspired me.

“I want kids to do something they love. Not something that seems like a chore because someone tells them that’s the right thing to do or what their parents want or what’s important to people around them, but what’s in their heart.”

The ‘Hannah Montana‘ star recently admitted while she is happy to be seen as a role model for younger girls, she doesn’t want her fans to idolise her.

Miley explained: “If you look at me as a role model I agree with it. If you look at me as an idol, I don’t agree. An idol for me is someone that you want to replicate. You want to be them.

“I don’t wish that on anyone, to lose what they have personally, because that’s when your spark goes.”

Hilary Duff made her husband Mike Comrie take dancing lessons for their wedding reception

The actress-and-singer – who married the Canadian hockey star in August – forced him to take special lessons for their first dance to Benny King’s ‘Stand By Me’, before changing her mind because he dress was too tight to do a routine in.

Speaking to Access Hollywood Live’s Billy Bush and Kit Hoover, she said: “I made Mike take a dance class, maybe two. He was so mad at me! He was like, ‘We’re just gonna go knock it out – we’re gonna kill it. We don’t need a dance class!’

“I’m like, ‘You need a dance class. You don’t understand!’ Then, on the day of the wedding, my dress is so tight that once we’re making our way onto the floor and I’m like, ‘Hey – change of plans. We’re just gonna sway back and forth like middle school days. No dancing.’ And he’s like, ‘You made me practice for four hours! I’m doing the dance!’

“We’re having this full-on bickering fight before we go on and we’re just smiling, and I’m like, ‘Don’t turn me around!’ ”

Despite Mike’s dance lessons being wasted, Hilary’s sportsman spouse saw the funny side of her dilemma.

The ‘Cheaper by the Dozen’ star also revealed her favourite part of the day was saying her vows, but admits she was trembling when she said them.

She revealed: “The best moment of our wedding was definitely standing there and saying our vows. It was so special – I was shaking.”

Duff On Sheen Movie, McHale Threat

We’ve got another TooFab Q&A for you today — this time with Hilary Duff, who returns to TV tonight with a guest starring role on NBC’s “Community.”

In her one-on-one with TooFab, Hilary talked about her threats to the show’s star Joel McHale … getting cred with her guy friends … and working on a movie Charlie Sheen just filmed a cameo for!

Is your husband [hockey player Mike Comrie] a fan of “Community”? Did he get a chance to visit you when you were on the set?

“You know what? He was already in Pittsburgh at the time, because that’s where he’s playing hockey this year. But he was so excited when I told him I was doing the show. So many guys in my life, like a lot of my guy friends love the show and I totally got respect for doing it … they’re like, ‘No way, oh my God, we DVR that at home and like, we love it, we’ve watched it since the beginning!’ And so it was fun to get to see the reaction.”

Were you a fan of the show beforehand?

“I didn’t start watching the show right away because I travel so much. But I did get into it, like halfway through last year and I think it’s just really funny. It’s quirky and the characters are strong and the actors get to have so much fun with it. It was cool; I was excited when I got the phone call.”

Were you able to get back at Joel McHale for the comments he made on “The Soup” about your sister Haylie and her show [Legally Blonde The Musical: Search for Elle Woods]?

“You know what is funny, is Haylie and her boyfriend Nick love “The Soup” and so I think that, you know, she’s – she has pretty thick skin and didn’t care so much. But when I saw Joel, I was like, ‘I’m just going to push you down, like, I just need to, it just needs to happen, I can push you down really fast.’ And then say, ‘Thanks for having me on your show.’ But he was like, ‘Oh, no, what did I say about you? Or your sister? I don’t know, I don’t know.’

“But he’s very funny and I actually didn’t get to have that many scenes with him, which was sad.”

One last question. I know we’re all interested in your various projects and I know Charlie Sheen just filmed a cameo in your latest film. How was it working with Charlie?

“You know what? This is like, another example of stories getting out of control. We both had cameos in this movie, so it’s not my film. I didn’t work with him at all … but from what I’ve heard, he’s great to work with.”

Duff’s episode of “Community” airs tonight.

Hilary Duff has got married

The singer-and-actress tied the knot with hockey player Mike Comrie in a stunning sunset ceremony in Santa Barbara, California, yesterday (14.08.10) in front of 100 guests, according to America’s OK magazine.

Hilary – who wore a mermaid-style dress by renowned wedding gown designer Vera Wang - was walked down the aisle by her mother Susan Duff and was accompanied by five bridesmaids, who included her sister Haylie Duff.

The couple – who started dating in 2007 – got engaged in February after Mike, 29, proposed in Hawaii.

Hilary, 22, and Mike met on a trip to a resort in Idaho and have been inseparable ever since.

The sportsman has said of their first meeting: ‘We were all on the same plane and it was kind of, I guess, maybe a bit of a fluke. She calls it ironic. No I’m kidding! It was one of those things where we were all in a group . we spent the weekend all hanging out.’

Speaking of their relationship Hilary has said she couldn’t be happier and loved everything about him.

She said: ‘I’ve never met anyone who can say a bad word about him. He’s generous, caring and sunny. We just laugh our heads off.’

The ‘Twilight Saga’ dominated the Teen Choice Awards last night (08.08.10) picking up an incredible haul of 11 prizes.

The vampire romance franchise won a total of 11 prizes at the ceremony, which was held at Los Angeles’ Gibson Amphitheater, including Choice Movie: Liplock for Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart’s kiss in ‘The Twilight Saga: New Moon’ and Choice Movie: Chemistry.

Taylor Lautner – who plays werewolf Jacob Black in the films – picked up the Choice Fantasy: Movie Actor and Choice Male: Hottie gongs, while co-stars Robert and Kristen won the Choice Summer Movie Star: Male and Choice Summer Movie Star: Female accolades respectively.

‘Twilight’ was not the only vampire drama to dominate the event, which was hosted by ‘California Gurls’ singer Katy Perry – who underwent several costume changes throughout the night appearing at one point as a prom queen.

Hit series ‘The Vampire Diaries’ scooped seven awards in the television category, including Choice TV Show: Fantasy/Sci-Fi, while the show’s leading couple Paul Wesley and Nina Dobrev won the Choice Actor and Choice Actress statuettes in the TV Fantasy/Sci-Fi category.

Sandra Bullock won the Choice Movie Actress: Drama award for her performance in ‘The Blind Side’, the role which also won her the Best Actress Oscar.

Kourtney, Khloe and Kim Kardashian were also on hand to accept the Choice TV: Reality Show accolade for their series ‘Keeping Up With the Kardashians’.

Kim tweeted after the event: “So much fun at the Teen Choice Awards tonight! I told Megan Fox she is the most gorgeous woman alive. (sic)”

The singer – who is divorcing estranged husband Deryck Whibley – has been seen out several times with American actor Wilmer Valderrama and the pair have apparently been getting very close.

Over the weekend, Avril, 25, and 29-year-old Wilmer were spotted at Los Angeles club Wonderland getting cosy.

An onlooker is quoted by US gossip blogger Perez Hilton as saying: “She had her hand on his knee and they were whispering in each other’s ear, laughing. They even closed the club, sneaking out just after 2am.”

Since splitting from Sum 41 rocker Deryck in September, Avril has also been romantically linked to oil heir Brandon Davis – who has also dated Lindsay and Paris Hilton.

As well as Lindsay, Wilmer has previously been in relationships with Mandy Moore and Hilary Duff.

Avril filed for divorce at a Los Angeles court last month citing “irreconcilable differences”.

She is asking for a ruling to block Deryck – whom she was married to for three years – from receiving spousal support.
