Gemma Arterton feels “intimidated” on the sets of big Hollywood films
The British actress has revealed she is much more comfortable working on projects that are smaller and less expensive, admitting she felt “a bit lost” when she starred opposite Jake Gyllenhaal in ‘Prince of Persia’ because she didn’t feel close to anyone.
She explained: “With ‘Prince of Persia’ I was intimidated. I like to have a relationship with everyone on set, as much as I can, because I’m from the theatre world where you know everyone.
“On that there were people who were, like, heads of departments, who I never met, ever, because it was so big. Sometimes I felt a bit lost.”
The 25-year-old beauty went on to admit that she has been guilty of succumbing to typical Hollywood behaviour herself by having a tantrum but has since realised that she shouldn’t waste her time worrying about the fickle business.
She explained to The Sunday Telegraph’s Seven magazine: “I’ve shouted and stomped my feet, which is fine, but I think I was just wasting my energy there because it’s not really going to change. It has always been like that, you know, Hollywood.”
The ‘St Trinian’s’ star went on to say that Hollywood studios are preoccupied with making money but she’s more interested in the art of making the films.
She said: “There’s a lot more at stake in big Hollywood productions in terms of money, and ratings, and things like that, which I’ve never been bothered with. Like, don’t worry about, Just make the film.”

With Whom Gemma Arterton Wants 2 Work?
by Abbey on Jan.16, 2011, under Actress, updates
Gemma Arterton wants to work with Darren Aronofsky
The ‘Tamara Drewe’ actress cites the director’s ballet thriller ‘Black Swan’ as her favourite movie of the last 12 months and has issued an open plea for her to find a part for him in his next movie.
She said: “I loved ‘Black Swan’ and I’ve always loved Darren Aronofsky. It reminded me of ‘Requiem for a Dream’. And Natalie Portman is incredible in it. I really loved it.”
However Gemma – who has starred in blockbusters ‘Clash of the Titans’ and ‘Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time’ revealed she finds it difficult to convince her favourite directors to work with her because she is too “mainstream”.
When asked if she would like to work with Darren, she said: “Yes, of course! It always makes me laugh because my favourite directors are quite obscure – Darren Aronofsky, Michael Haneke, Lars Von Trier. But I haven’t got to work with them, I suppose because I’m quite mainstream.”
Gemma also admitted she was surprised to be nominated for a BAFTA Rising Star Award because she considers herself an “old timer”.
She said: “Rising star? I’m a bit of an old-timer now! I only left drama school three years ago so I’m still quite new, but some people might be thinking, ‘Oh no, not her again…
“But I do think it’s right that it’s now, because of the movies I’ve had come out in the last year.”

Why Gemma Arterton Is Taking A Break From Hollywood?
by Abbey on Sep.23, 2010, under Actress, Entertainment, Films, Husband
Gemma Arterton is taking a break from Hollywood to spend more time with her husband
The ‘Tamara Drewe’ actress is planning to reduce her film roles so she and her 37-year-old spouse Stefano Catelli – who she married in a low-key ceremony in Spain on June 5 – can enjoy their first year of married life.
She said: “I love married life and I decided it was about time I took a break from filming and working abroad so we can spend more time together.”
However, the 24-year-old beauty will not take a break from acting completely.
Gemma has signed up to star in Henrik Ibsen’s ‘The Master Builder’ at London’s Almeida Theatre from November, and says she prefers treading the boards to shooting movies.
She told the Daily Telegraph newspaper: “I prefer working on stage, actually.”
Gemma has previously confessed she didn’t think she would ever get married and imagined a life filled with cats as she got older.
She said: “It takes you by surprise. I always thought I was going to end up an old spinster, with my cats and fur coats.”

Why Gemma Arterton Says — “I was quite rough”?
by Abbey on Sep.12, 2010, under Actress, Entertainment
Gemma Arterton used to be “rough”
The 24-year-old actress – who grew up in Gravesend, Kent – admits she had a tough upbringing and had to learn to be “posh” while studying acting at London’s prestigious Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts (RADA).
She said: “I was quite rough when I was younger. I had an attitude. And at RADA they just said, ‘It doesn’t match your casting,’ so I had to learn to be posh in a way.
“I’ve had problems with people thinking I’m common and making judgements. It really angers me, it’s terrible, but people do. So you have to adapt, otherwise you’ll be limited.”
The actress recently learnt the importance of her looks after wearing a prosthetic nose on her new comedy ‘Tamara Drewe’ and realising people’s attitudes changed.
She explained to Glamour magazine: “People actually treated me differently. They accommodated me less, like I had lower status. Very interesting. The nose is framed in my bathroom now.”

What Gemma Arterton Is Worried Of….?
by Kavy on Sep.11, 2010, under Actress, Entertainment
Gemma Arterton was worried she would always star in period dramas
The ‘Tamara Drewe’ actress – who shot to fame in an adaptation of ‘Tess of the D’Urbervilles’ – is now looking forward to putting her roles as a love interest in ‘Clash of the Titans’ and ‘Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time’ behind her to focus on stronger female characters.
She said: “I feel so lucky. I always thought I’d be in period dramas playing downtrodden girls in love. I read so many scripts and they’re all the same: either the character is just someone to be in the background or they’re there to help the man, to be the love interest like I’ve done in ‘Prince of Persia’ or ‘Clash of the Titans’.
“What I want to do is find characters who are the focus. Sexy and real women, not perfect. Not pin-ups.”
The 24-year-old British beauty also reveals she was scared about losing her anonymity and private life when she became a Hollywood leading lady.
She said: “I was really worried. I didn’t want my life to change too much. And it hasn’t.
“You hear horror stories about people getting stalked and not being able to leave the house. I’ve not had any of that. People recognise me sometimes but I can still walk down the street.
“I was worried about an onslaught of negative press but actually it’s all been really positive.”

Where Gemma Arterton Hides 2 Get Rid From Her Fans?
by tmz on Aug.27, 2010, under Actress, Entertainment
Gemma Arterton goes to the toilet to hide from her fans
The British actress recently visited her hometown and received so much attention in the restaurant she was eating in she had take evasive action in the rest room.
Referring to her character in new movie ‘Tamara Drewe’, Gemma – who grew up in Gravesend, Kent, South East England – told BANG Showbiz: “I grew up in a town that’s not that far away from London at all, but not the countryside, and I went home two weeks ago for a visit. I went to a restaurant and people kind of recognise you more when you are from there. It is kind of weird. And they idolise you and put you on a pedestal. In London I think everyone is preoccupied with their own lives to even care. But it is weird going back to your hometown. Unlike Tamara I just go and hide in the toilet. Tamara goes and puts on some hot pants!”
In ‘Tamara Drewe’, the 24-year-old screen beauty stars as the journalist character of the same name who returns to her childhood home in the English countryside after her mother dies and surprises the locals with her new sexy look.

by Alice on Jul.31, 2010, under Actress, Gallery, updates
Gemma Arterton (born 12 January 1986) is an English actress. She played the eponymous protagonist in the BBC adaptation of Thomas Hardy’s Tess of the D’Urbervilles. Gemma has starred in many feature films including British comedy St Trinian’s and its sequel St. Trinian’s II: The Legend of Fritton’s Gold, as well as blockbuster hits: James Bond film Quantum of Solace, Clash of the Titans, and Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time.
Gemma won her first professional role in Stephen Poliakoff’s Capturing Mary, while she was still at drama school. Similarly, Gemma made her stage debut as Rosaline in Shakespeare’s Love’s Labour’s Lost at the Globe Theatre, London in July 2007 before graduating later that year. She made her film debut in the 2007 St Trinian’s movie St Trinian’s as Head Girl Kelly, a role she gained in competition with Sienna Miller.
In 2008, Gemma appeared in the James Bond film, Quantum of Solace. Chosen from around 1500 candidates, she plays Bond Girl “Strawberry Fields”, in what is described as a “nice-sized role”. In 2008 also, Gemma played the role of Elizabeth Bennet in the ITV serial Lost in Austen, albeit a reduced role from the original Pride & Prejudice.
Gemma is the face of Avon’s Bond Girl 007 fragrance which launched in October 2008. Having already started in a series of low-key adverts for cosmetics company Avon, in May 2008 Gemma requested a role opposite model Kate Moss for Rimmel, but was blocked on contractual terms under her Avon contract.
In 2010, Gemma made her West End debut in the UK premiere of The Little Dog Laughed. She was originally attached to star in a new adaptation of Wuthering Heights as Catherine Earnshaw, however, Arterton later left the project. She is set to star in Burden of Desire.
She was seen in the 2010 films Clash of the Titans and Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time, and will next appear in Tamara Drewe, being released on September 10, 2010 in the UK.

007 Girl, Gemma Arterton Marries – Stefano Catelli In Zuheros
by Abbey on Jun.08, 2010, under Actress, Marriage
Gemma Arterton has got married.
The former Bond girl tied the knot with fiance Stefano Catelli in a private ceremony in the Spanish village of Zuheros on Sunday (06.06.10), which was attended by only close friends and family.
The 24-year-old actress looked stunning in a strapless cream gown and her brunette locks were pinned up with a long veil attached.
The newlyweds were then driven away from the hill-top venue in a vintage open-topped car and taken to a nearby venue for their reception.
Villager Helen Hartstein said: “I spoke to Stefano’s auntie and she said how proud she was. Gemma looked stunning, so beautiful and quite shy.”
The couple got engaged last year after Italian sales manager Stefano proposed at the Download music festival in the UK.
Gemma has previously spoken about her love for the Italian sales manager – who she has refused to name in public – saying she knew he was the man she was going to spend the rest of her life with as soon as they met.
She said: “It was absolutely instant. I remember going home the night after I met him and writing in my diary that I’d met the man I’m going to marry.
“I gave that diary entry to him for his birthday two weeks later. But it didn’t freak him out, because he was thinking the same thing. I just really want to spend the rest of my life with him. He’s an amazing man.”

Gemma Arterton Wanted To Become A Princess
by cyan on Jun.04, 2010, under Actress
Gemma Arterton grew up wanting to be a princess.
The ‘Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time’ actress admits she dreamed of being rescued by a hero, but thinks she lacked the grace and elegance to be truly regal.
She said: “I come from a simple background. My mum was a cleaner and my dad was a welder. But there was a time when I wanted to become a princess. I probably read too many romantic novels. I always wanted to be rescued by a prince. But I wouldn’t have looked my best. When I was younger I always used to trip and unerringly land in the nearest mud puddle.”
While the 24-year-old British star doesn’t think she could cut it as a princess, she believes she has what it takes to be an action heroine – but admits she worries more about what women think of her physical side than men.
She added to Gala.de: “What makes a good action heroine? You have to keep up with the boys. In a fist fight I always have the upper hand. However, for me it’s important to look feminine at the same time. I want the girls to think I’m cool.”

Gemma Arterton Isn’t Enough Of A “sex goddess” To Please Fans
by Abbey on Apr.21, 2010, under Actress
Gemma Arterton isn’t enough of a “sex goddess” to please fans of the ‘Prince of Persia: The Sands Of Time’ computer game.
The British actress has been told by fans of the computer game – which her latest film is based on – she doesn’t meet their expectations for her character, Princess Tamina, leaving her scared to go to a comic convention to promote the film.
Gemma said: “They want me to go to Comic-Con. It kind of worries me. I’ve had letters telling me I’m not right for the part because I don’t look like the girl in the video game!
“She really is this sex goddess. They’ve got massively high standards.”
Gemma’s character’s name was changed from Farah to Tamina for the ‘Prince Of Persia: The Sands of Time’ film, in which she stars alongside Jake Gyllenhaal, who plays the lead character Prince Dalston. The film is an adaptation of a 2003 computer game of the same name and sees the prince and princess trying to prevent an epic sandstorm swallowing their homeland.
Despite Gemma’s Hollywood career taking off – with a role in ‘Clash Of the Titans’ and having previously appeared as one of the women seduced by the British spy character James Bond in ‘Quantum of Solace’- she also appears in low budget thriller film ‘The Disappearance of Alice Creed’, a film she wholeheartedly believed in enough to appear naked.
She added to Details magazine: “This is the sort of movie I always imagined I’d end up doing. This is the sort of movie I’d go to see in the cinema.
“I wouldn’t get my clothes off for just any film. On camera I really didn’t give a s**t, but as soon as they said ‘Cut!’ I was like, ‘Someone put the dressing gown over me!’”

Jake Gyllenhaal Wants To Buy His ‘Little Action Figure’
by cyan on Jan.13, 2010, under Actor, Roles
Jake Gyllenhaal “can’t wait” to become an action figure.
The 29-year-old actor plans to head straight to the shops as soon as his character from forthcoming movie ‘Prince of Persia: Sands of Time’ is immortalised in plastic.
He said: “A lot of people find it weird to have little action figures of themselves, but I think it’s great. In fact it’s awesome! I can’t wait. I’m going to buy loads.”
In the film – which is based on the popular video game series – Jake plays hero Dastan who teams up with Princess Tamina, played by Gemma Arterton, to find ancient artefact the Sands of Time in the adventure which is set in 6th Century Persia.
Jake isn’t the only star happy to have been turned into an action figure.
Sienna Miller was delighted when her character in ‘G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra’, The Baroness, was made into a doll.
She said: “I’ll have happy nieces and nephews. My Baroness doll is so flexible too. Her foot can even flex 360 degrees. Kids will be killing me though because I’m the baddie!”
However, her joy soon turned to horror when she realised the figurine showed off parts of her body she would rather keep private.
Sienna said: “I got measured in this pod so the doll is exactly to scale – every nook and cranny. They showed me my bald head before it was painted on and it was me! That was weird.”

The 76-year-old star – who has previously received Best Supporting Actor Academy Awards for 1986 film ‘Hannah and Her Sisters’ and 1999’s ‘The Cider House Rules’ – thinks his only hope of being honoured again is in a year of low standards.
Speaking at the European premiere of his new movie ‘Harry Brown’ in London’s Leicester Square last night (10.11.09), he told BANG Showbiz: “I’ve got a couple of Oscars and I’ve been nominated nine times but I’ve lost seven. There are all sorts of different circumstances and you also want a duff year.
“My first nomination was ‘Alfie’ and the competition was Paul Schofield in ‘A Man For All Seasons’. I didn’t stand a chance. The second time was ‘Sleuth’ and the competition was Marlon Brando in ‘The Godfather’.
“All I’m waiting for is a c**p year so I can get in.”
‘Quantum of Solace’ star Gemma Arterton, socialite Tamara Ecclestone and artist Tracey Emin were among the famous faces who braved the rain to walk the red carpet at the premiere.
Michael and Jack Nicholson are the only male actors to have been Oscar-nominated in every decade of their career.
