Justin Bieber finds England “depressing”

The Canadian teen singing sensation is presently in the UK to promote his new album ‘My Worlds Acoustic’, but doesn’t get on so well with the cold winter weather or food.

He said: “I couldn’t live here because the weather is very depressing. But I like the girls! The food I don’t like really.”

However, the 16-year-old star enjoys hearing English accents, and thinks they lend themselves particularly well to festive songs.

He explained: “’Rudolph The Red Nose Reindeer’ sounds better in an English accent though.”

As he is currently in Britain, the ‘Baby’ hitmaker stayed up until the early hours of this morning (02.12.10)) in order to hear the Grammy Awards nominations be announced in the US, but after learning he will compete for Best New Artist and Best Pop Album for ‘My World’, he insists his decision to sacrifice sleep was the right one.

He told BBC Radio 1 DJ Fearne Cotton: “I was up until about 5am this morning, straight through. I found out in the middle of the night, at around 3.30am that I’m nominated for two Grammys.

“It’s amazing, I’m so excited. Last night I was just freaking out, because my whole life I’ve just wanted to win a Grammy, now that I have that opportunity it is crazy. I have a good feeling about it, never say never.”

Kelis fired up her own barbeque in her dressing room to celebrate the 4th July on Sunday.

The R&B star always celebrates American Independence Day with an outdoor feast, and even though she was in the UK this weekend for the annual holiday she decided she was going to have a cook-up anyway.

Kelis – who was performing in Weston-Super-Mare, England, at the T4 On The Beach concert, hosted by British TV station Channel 4 – rushed out and bought some portable barbeques and began cooking a host of calorific treats, including rib eye steaks, salmon, corn on the cobs, hamburgers and hot dogs.

A source said: “Kelis was cooking up a storm backstage. The smell of the steaks on the BBQ was mouth watering. Perhaps Channel 4 should give her a cooking show of her own!”

A host of other artists and backstage passers-by joined Kelis – whose new single ‘4th Of July (Fireworks)’ is out today (05.07.10) – for the food until concerned fire wardens put a halt to the impromptu barbeque after seeing the smoke.

Other acts to perform at T4 On The Beach included Dizee Rascal and Alexandra Burke.

Kate Moss sang ‘Happy Birthday’ to Mick Jones at Glastonbury last night (25.06.10).

The supermodel led a group of stars in performing the track when a giant birthday cake was brought out to celebrate the former Clash legend’s 54th birthday, shortly after his headline set with the Gorillaz at the renowned music festival in Somerset, England.

The 36-year-old beauty and the rocker – who was dressed in a nautical outfit – chatted and giggled together before Kate hit the dance floor and strutted her stuff to Gary Glitter’s ‘Do You Wanna Touch Me’.

A source told BANG Showbiz: “They were having a great time! Mick was sat next to Kate and they talked for ages. Kate looked absolutely stunning.”

Mick was joined at his star-studded birthday celebrations by his partner Miranda Davis.

While they largely remained inside the PlayStation 3 SingStar area with friends including actress Emma Watson, other pals like Lily Allen, Kelly Osbourne, La Roux, Alex Turner and Alexa Chung mingled outside.

‘Not Fair‘ singer Lily looked demure as she lounged about on deckchairs and giant floor cushions and cuddled up to her boyfriend Sam Cooper, while ‘Harry Potter‘ starlet Emma showed off her new lover George Craig and tested out his moves on the dance floor.

TV beauty Kelly Osbourne was another star looking loved-up at the bash, as she and her fiance Luke Worrall laughed and giggled with pals outside.

Socialite Pixie Geldof, Henry Holland and Jade Jagger also joined in the fun, running to the nearby SingStar Cocktails and Dreams area to watch Belinda Carlisle perform her 80s classic ‘Heaven is a Place on Earth‘.

The music event’s organiser Michael Eavis has signed up the Irish rockers – Bono, The Edge, Adam Clayton and Larry Mullen Jr. – to perform for the first time at the world famous festival which celebrates its 40th anniversary next year.

A source said: “Everyone is over the moon that the deal has been done. Michael really wanted a huge name for the 40th anniversary and the fact U2 have never played Glastonbury in their 32-year career only adds to the mystique.”

The ‘Get On Your Boots’ hitmakers – who will headline the festival on Friday June 25, in Somerset, England – have been in discussions with Michael, 74, for some time.

The source added to Britain’s The Sun newspaper: “Eavis has been asking them for a while now and really stepped up the effort this year. This could be an iconic moment.”

Glastonbury tickets sold out just hours after their release last month, even though no acts had been named.

At the time, Michael promised the festival would be full of the world’s best musicians.

He said: “There will be three or four superstars. The expectations are really high and we’re trying to get the best headliners in the world.”

‘Can’t Take My Eyes Off You’ singer Andy Williams recently revealed he had also been booked to perform at the world-famous event.

Veteran rockers The Rolling Stones are favourites to headline the final night of the three-day event, while Radiohead and Beyonce Knowles have also been tipped to appear.

The girl hid herself in a holdall matching that of the group’s luggage at a hotel they were staying at in Dublin, Ireland, in the hope of being smuggled to the airport with the four boys.

However, the ‘Beat Again’ singers’ entourage noticed the bag containing the girl was “moving” and rescued her before she was packed into the back of the tour bus.

A source close to the group told Britain’s The Sun newspaper: “It’s getting to the point where the fanaticism is dangerous.

“This girl was so meticulous. She had brought along her own bag to match the luggage the guys normally use. But it was moving slightly and didn’t have any tags so one of the security lads saw it.

“When the girl was pulled out she had been in there for at least half an hour and was close to fainting.”

Unfortunately for the fan, the group – Marvin Humes, Aston Merrygold, Jonathan “JB” Gill And Oritse Williams – had already left the hotel in separate cars, leaving the girl, who was wearing a T-shirt of the band, disappointed.

The source added: “She was looking for the boys but they had already left.

“She was distraught but managed to slip away, pretending she needed the toilet.”

Last weekend, JLS had to cut short a performance in Birmingham, England, after 20,000 fans turned up to see them and a host of other acts switch on the city’s Christmas lights and perform for free.

Around 60 people were injured as fans rushed to try and get into the show bustling past security.

The actor – who plays vampire Edward Cullen in the movie franchise – is amazed at the response he’s had from fans around the world to the latest instalment, ‘New Moon’.

He said: “We went to Japan earlier on in the year. There wasn’t that much of a reaction – but last week when we went again, it suddenly exploded, the same as in England.

“I don’t know how, it just explodes so quickly. It takes seven months to take hold – it’s like a virus.”

The British star has also claimed he works as hard as a “doctor” because acting calls for unsociable hours.

He explained: “I’ve been working so much this year that it’s almost like living in an alternate reality. You’re doing doctor hours. Every doctor I’ve ever spoken to says the same thing, that you have no idea what’s going on other than working. You’re away from your family and friends, and all that stuff.”

Robert, 23, recently admitted he finds it strange being a heartthrob, especially because he receives attention from women of all ages.

He explained: “Recently I’ve had less direct contact with people because there’s way more security and stuff on set. But I always find it funny when older people come up to me. There was a woman the other day who must have been in her 90s! And they say exactly the same things as 12-year-old girls. That is kind of bizarre.”

The Australian singer dashed to East Surrey Hospital in Redhill, England, to be with seven-year-old Harvey – who suffers from septo-optic dysplasia and autism – after learning he had contracted suspected swine flu.

A source said: “Harvey had a massive temperature and couldn’t keep any food down. More worryingly, his breathing was also a huge concern and there was no option but to urgently seek medical advice.

“The doctors weren’t taking any chances. If he doesn’t get any better, he might be there for a while. It could be complications from potential swine flu. He’s a very poorly young man.”

Katie is said to be “frantic” with worry that Harvey may not show any immediate improvement and broke down in tears after speaking to doctors.

She reportedly told a friend: “I have to be there for Harvey. He’s my little angel and he needs his mummy.”

Harvey’s hospitalisation marks the first time the couple – whose divorce was finalised last month – have been together since they split up in May this year, but friends insist Peter would never have missed the chance to stay with Harvey, whose father is soccer player Dwight Yorke, despite his fraught relationship with the glamour model.

A pal said: “He is very worried and has gone to hospital because he wanted to be with Harvey as well.”

Katie and Peter also have a son Junior, four, and daughter Princess Tiaamii, two.

The ‘Candy Shop’ rapper – who was shot at nine times during an incident in 2000 and has openly admitted to dealing drugs in the past –  takes extreme measures both to protect himself and his property and also to ensure he doesn’t get sued.

The 33-year-old star explained: “I spend $20,000 a week on security. My home is surrounded by cameras.

“I need surveillance not only to look out for me but also to protect me. You get all these crazy lawsuits and I need cameras to check on things.”

50 is not the only star concerned about his security.

David and Victoria Beckham have splashed the cash to turn their UK home into an impregnable fortress.

Their £2.5 million mansion in Hertfordshire, England, is now protected by CCTV surveillance, guard dogs, a high wall topped with razor wire and 24-hour security patrols by former SAS members.

One employee previously said: “Even if you’re only going there for a few hours, you still have to sign in and out of every room. The cameras watch you from the minute you go in – it’s like a military base.”
