Mel to Oksana’s Dentist — I’ll See YOU Now!

Not many people actively seek out a dentist — but TMZ has learned Mel Gibson’s legal team is doing just that when it comes to the dentist Oksana Grigorieva visited the day after Mel and Oksana’s altercation.

As we first reported, a key witness in the case against Mel will be Oksana’s dentist, Dr. Ross Shelden. Dr. Shelden took photos of Oksana’s face the day after the alleged January 6 blowout, although the pics do no show injury or bruising. And as we reported, Dr. Shelden has flip-flopped on his medical evaluation — claiming, then disclaiming and then re-claiming Oksana was struck in the mouth.

Sources tell us Mel’s legal team submitted a request last week to depose Dr. Shelden.

After the deposition, Dr. Shelden should not expect a lollipop.

Oksana’s Dentist Sticks With Original Story

Oksana Grigorieva’s dentist is talking on camera for the first time — sticking with his first version of events on January 6 between Mel Gibson and Oksana  — that she was struck in the mouth AND the head.

As we first reported, Oksana went to Dr. Ross Shelden the day after the blowup. Dr. Shelden signed a written declaration stating Oksana was struck in the mouth and the temple. But as we reported, he has also told another, conflicting story — that Oksana was NOT struck in the mouth — and there was no evidence of bruising consistent with a strike to the mouth. Dr. Sheldon theorized Oksana was struck in the temple, which caused her to bite down hard which led to two veneers coming out.

In this video shot Thursday, Dr. Shelden — who at first says he shouldn’t comment — says, “I think [Oksana's injuries] were definitely caused by a blow to the mouth and a blow to the head.”

If Mel Gibson is charged with domestic violence, Dr. Shelden’s inconsistent stories could damage his credibility as a witness.

Oksana’s Dentist: She Was Struck In the Mouth

The dentist who examined Oksana Grigorieva the day after the January 6 showdown with Mel Gibson now says she was indeed struck in the mouth.

A representative for Dr. Ross Shelden tells TMZ, “Based on Dr. Shelden’s observations and his experience, Oksana sustained injuries from being struck twice, once in the side of the head and once in the mouth.”

TMZ broke the story … the dentist privately said last week there was no swelling or bruising on Oksana’s mouth and believed the damage to her veneers was caused by a “chain reaction” caused by a blow to the left temple.  The doctor had said there was no evidence of a strike to the mouth.

But the rep now says the doctor will go on record saying there was indeed a blow to Oksana’s mouth.

Dentist’s Story In Direct Conflict with Oksana

The dentist who treated Oksana Grigorieva does not believe she was struck in the mouth as she claims … and his evaluation raises serious questions about her injuries … TMZ has learned.

Sources familiar with Dr. Ross Shelden’s medical charts, photos and examination notes tell TMZ … Dr. Shelden saw no evidence Oksana was struck in the mouth.  TMZ broke the story … Oksana told Sheriff’s deputies Mel Gibson struck her in the mouth twice, knocking one tooth out and chipping another.

Although Dr. Shelden sees no evidence of a strike to the mouth, he does have a different scenario.  We’ve learned Dr. Shelden believes Oksana was struck in the left temple, which caused her to bite down so hard, one veneer was completely knocked out and another was damaged. The charts reflect that Oksana’s teeth were fully intact.

Dr. Shelden observed a bruise on Oksana’s left temple, however, we know the photos he took in his office show no such bruising.  The doctor’s explanation — Oksana was reluctant to have her picture taken and covered up the bruising with her hair and makeup — plus she was looking off to the side.

As for the mouth area, Dr. Shelden’s charts reflect two bite marks on the inside of the lower lip.  The doctor says there was no swelling or bruising consistent with a punch to the mouth but believes instead the bite marks are consistent with “a chain reaction” after allegedly being hit in the temple.

There is nothing in the records indicating whether the doctor believes Oksana’s wounds may have been self-inflicted.

Sources connected with the dentist who treated Oksana Grigorieva tell TMZ the dentist believes “100% the photo circulating on the Internet has been altered.”

We’re told Dr. Ross Shelden is saying, “The nose is not hers.  The lips are not right.  It’s not a true and accurate picture.  It has definitely been altered.”

We’re also told the doctor says the teeth are in fact Oksana’s, reaffirming that the teeth are intact, but one veneer was damaged and one was broken.

We have specific information about the dentist’s observations … and they raise serious questions about the nature of Oksana’s alleged injury.

Oksana’s Dentist Offered Her Shelter from Mel

TMZ has learned … the dentist who treated Oksana Grigorieva the day after the explosive January 6 blowup with Mel Gibson wrote a sworn declaration in which he says Oksana not only told him Mel had hit her … but he was so concerned for her safety he offered to let her stay at his home.

TMZ broke the story … Dr. Ross Shelden will be a critical witness if criminal charges are filed against Gibson.  Oksana’s lawyers asked Dr. Shelden last month to write a declaration detailing information he had about the incident and aftermath.

TMZ has learned what’s in Dr. Shelden’s declaration.  Dr. Shelden says he has known Oksana for 12 years.  According to the declaration, Oksana came in the day after the incident and told him Mel had hit her, but she was not more specific.  The doctor says in his declaration he saw evidence of “blunt force trauma” as well as physical damage.

Something significant — in the declaration, Dr. Shelden says Oksana’s teeth were not damaged … just her veneers.  He says one veneer was knocked completely out and the other was broken in half.

The doctor wanted to take pictures of Oksana’s mouth, but not to create a record for authorities — he wanted them for his lab for the purpose of repairing the damage.

The doctor says Oksana did not want the pictures taken, and had expressly said she wanted to protect Mel.  But Dr. Shelden persisted and got the photos, although he says Oksana was so reluctant she would not look into the camera.

As we previously reported, Oksana insisted that Dr. Shelden keep the information confidential, which is why he did not contact the police.

Sources say Dr. Shelden says before Oksana even met Mel … she had talked about how much she wanted to get married and have a baby.

Star Witness in Mel Gibson Case — Oksana’s Dentist

Dr. Ross Shelden will be a star witness in the Mel Gibson investigation, TMZ has learned … and we’re told he has powerful evidence that Mel Gibson hurt Oksana Grigorieva.

Sources familiar with the treatment tell TMZ Dr. Shelden, who practices in the San Fernando Valley, took photos of Oksana’s mouth the day after the January 6 blowout, in which Mel allegedly knocked out Oksana’s teeth.

We’re told Dr. Shelden took photos of Oksana’s mouth and turned them over to her lawyers.  We’re also told Dr. Shelden has made it clear … it was not a case where Oksana lost her veneers, which Gibson’s people have claimed.  We’re told Dr. Shelden’s analysis is that Oksana lost a tooth and another was chipped.

TMZ broke the story … Oksana told her dentist — whom we now know is Dr. Shelden — that Mel knocked her teeth out, yet he did not report the incident to authorities which he is required to do by law.   We now know why Dr. Shelden didn’t report the incident  — before telling him about Mel, Oksana insisted on confidentiality and Dr. Shelden felt he was duty-bound to honor it.

We’ve also learned Dr. Shelden has not been interviewed by L.A. County Sheriff’s investigators yet but he will indeed be interviewed as part of the investigation.  We’ve also learned Oksana’s lawyers have given Dr. Shelden written authorization to share all of his medical records related to Oksana with the Sheriff’s Department.
