Colin Firth “felt” The UK Support

by Kavy on Mar.01, 2011, under Actor

Colin FirthColin Firth “felt” the support of the UK when he won his Oscar

The 50-year-old star – who picked up the Best Actor trophy for his portrayal of stuttering British monarch King George VI in ‘The King’s Speech’ on Sunday night (27.02.11) – forgot about the speech he had planned when he took to the stage to accept the accolade but says the backing of his countrymen helped him through.

He said: “I actually wrote a speech and forgot it. And that was when it came to me, that support at home. I felt it – it was very important to me.”

The film won a total of four awards – Best Actor, Best Picture, Best Director and Best Original Screenplay – and Colin was said to be “buzzing” at the movie’s success.

An insider revealed: “Colin was King for the night. He was absolutely buzzing and good for him. Everyone in Hollywood thought he deserved it.”

However, he was so shocked later on in the evening that he accidentally left the gold statue in a toilet.

Luckily, an attendant noticed the forgetful winner’s mistake and ran to give it back to him and he carried on partying the night away.

A source said: “Everyone was trying to buy him drinks. He may be 50 but he knows how to party and was determined to make the most of the occasion.”

Despite his exciting evening, Colin later admitted he was glad the parties had drawn to a close.

He told the Daily Mail newspaper: “I think I’m feeling not joy – but relief that it’s over. That seems to be the default position. You could say I’m grateful – and relieved.

“The whole Oscar adventure has taken months and months of criss-crossing the Atlantic to go to Los Angeles and New York and points in between.

“I don’t think I’ll need to go to another party ever again.”

Why Sandra Was Determined 2 Have “fun” @ The Oscars

by Lisa on Feb.28, 2011, under Actress, Award

Sandra BullockSandra Bullock was determined to have “fun” at the Oscars – even though she was missing her son

The screen beauty returned to the Academy Awards last night (27.02.11) a year after she scooped the Best Actress accolade for her performance in ‘The Blind Side‘, and although she was looking forward to the ceremony she admitted she doesn’t like leaving her child Louis – who she adopted in January 2010.

Speaking on the red carpet before the prize-giving began at Los Angeles’ Kodak Theatre, she said: “I want to have fun tonight. I’m saying that I want to have fun, but I don’t know if I will.

“It’s hard. You just have to make a point of coming here and having a good time but all I want to do is go home (to see Louis). But I’ll make the best out of it and stick around.”

Despite Sandra’s reluctance to leave Louis, the 46-year-old star has just started shooting her first movie since she became a mother.

The actress is appearing in ‘Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close’ opposite Tom Hanks and filming began in New York City last week.

Sandra loved being back on set and believes parenthood has made her a better actress.

She said: “I just did my first day of work in over a year and a half on Friday (25.02.11).

“Motherhood has made me a better person. I’m more patient and accommodating. I really appreciate where I am.”

Sandra was at the ceremony to present Colin Firth his Best Actor Oscar.

Just days after her own Academy Award win in 2010, the brunette star suffered turmoil in her personal life when it was revealed her husband Jesse James had cheated on her.

The pair subsequently divorced and the motorcycle enthusiast is now engaged to tattoo artist Kat Von D.

Colin Firth’s 1st Impression

by Abbey on Feb.18, 2011, under Actor

Colin Firth's 1st ImpressionColin Firth didn’t impress his wife’s parents when they first met

The ‘King’s Speech’ star married film producer Livia Giuggioli – with who he has sons Luca, nine, and Matteo, seven – in 1997 and admits one of the main reasons why he learned to speak her native Italian was a desperate bid to win over her mother and father.

Speaking on CNN’s ‘Piers Morgan Tonight’, Colin – who also has a 20-year-old son Will with his ex-girlfriend Meg Tilly – said: “Her parents warmed up. I mean, taking a stab at their language, you know, I had to do an awful lot to convince them that I was good material for their daughter. Because I had a lot of strikes against me. I was 10 years older nearly, English, didn’t speak the language. Already had a child. I was an actor.

I mean, the list really does get very, very bad so I had to fix the language. It was one thing I could deal with and, you know, there’s nothing like communicating with people in their own tongue.”

The 50-year-old actor is also under no illusions as to who has the upper hand in his and Livia’s relationship.

When quizzed on the dynamic of their marriage, he joked: “I’m afraid she’s the ball breaker and the brains – which leaves me taking out the trash!”

Jeff Bridges On Winning Oscars

by Alice on Feb.13, 2011, under Actor

Jeff Bridges On Winning OscarsJeff Bridges won’t feel guilty if he beats Colin Firth to the Best Actor prize at this year’s Oscars

The 61-year-old star triumphed over Colin – who was nominated for his performance in ‘A Single Man‘ – at last year’s Academy Awards for his role in ‘Crazy Heart’ and he admits he is quite comfortable with the prospect of defeating ‘The King’s Speech’ star again.

Jeff – who is nominated this year for his turn in ‘True Grit‘ – said: “I don’t think I’d feel too guilty, no. Just let it fall where it may.”

However, the seasoned actor has confessed he does feel guilty for not watching all of his fellow nominees’ films.

Jeff – who has watched ‘The King’s Speech’ – said: “I feel bad as I haven’t watched as many of the films out this year as I should have. But the ones I’ve seen are terrific. ‘The King’s Speech’ is wonderful. And I like ‘Winter’s Bone‘.”

Jeff also said he doesn’t mind the endless promotion that comes with being in a film that’s nominated for an award and has found that his win last year has helped his career.

He said: “It’s great to be acknowledged by the guys for what you do. There’s an element of my job that’s like being a barker at a carousel. But after you put all that energy into a film, it’s great if people come see it.

“Winning the Oscar has helped me in other ways. I’m currently making an album with T Bone Burnett. That comes directly from the success of ‘Crazy Heart‘.”

Colin Firth Is Bringing Britain’s “extraordinary” History?

by Kavy on Sep.14, 2010, under Actor, Entertainment

Colin FirthColin Firth is bringing Britain’s “extraordinary” history to life on stage

The ‘King’s Speech’ actor is to narrate a stage performance and documentary called ‘The People Speak’ – featuring a number of stars, including Sir Ben Kingsley, Sir Ian McKellen and Joss Stone – which will show through readings and music, times when ordinary British citizens spoke out for change.

Speaking about the project, Colin – who will co-direct – explained that one of the reasons he is participating is because he hated history when he was at school and he wants to make people aware of some of the lesser known pivotal moments of his country’s past.

He said: “To me ‘The People Speak’ is the perfect response to the abject misery of my history class as a school boy. Considering the immense riches that history offers us in terms of the best and worst of human behaviour – corruption, sexual deviation, rebellion, struggles for power – none of that made it into my history lessons. There is absolutely no reason why history should be dry.”

The British production was inspired by the 2009 American version which featured a star-studded cast including Matt Damon, Josh Brolin, Rosario Dawson, Bruce Springsteen, and Viggo Mortensen.

The live performance will take place on Sunday 19 September 2010 at the Prince of Wales Theatre in London’s West End.

Guess Who IS The Best Looking Man In Britan?

by Alice on Sep.13, 2010, under Actor, Award, Entertainment, Films

Colin Firth has been named Britain’s best looking man

The ‘Pride and Prejudice’ actor topped a poll of 1,500 women ahead of actors Rupert Everett and Clive Owen, comic Russell Brand and James Bond star Daniel Craig.

Sally Allen, of Wizard Jeans which commissioned the survey, said: “A handsome profile may be heaven-sent but looking good is usually a much more down-to-earth process, concerned with grooming and making the most of your natural attractiveness.

“I’ve heard girls talking about Colin Firth’s brooding good looks when they are probably referring to his demeanour, grooming and image. And that’s something you can work on.

“But it’s unlikely that many men will be able to recreate the magical moment when Mr Darcy came out of the lake, dripping wet – yet positively perfect and sexy – making all the women watching take a very deep breath.”

Original James Bond star Sir Sean Connery, was voted ninth, while soccer superstar David Beckham and actor Orlando Bloom narrowly missed out on the top ten coming in at numbers 11 and 12 respectively.

Wizard Jeans Britain’s Best Looking Man poll top five:

1. Colin Firth

2. Rupert Everett

3. Clive Owen

4. Russell Brand

5. Daniel Craig

Colin Firth Thinks Hollywood Is Full Of Gay Actors

by Alice on Dec.08, 2009, under Actor

Colin Firth

The British star – who recently portrayed homosexual college professor George Falconer in 60s-set film ‘A Single Man’ – believes the movie industry if full of male actors who are nervous about coming out in case it jeopardises their careers.

He told Parade magazine: “If you’re a straight actor who takes on the role of a gay man, it’s obviously not the same as being one in this business. I think there are still some constraints against being openly gay. It is to do with whatever sexual taboos are in place. In Hollywood, I know that some actors are far more circumspect about keeping that secret hidden. There are not a lot of openly gay leading men.”

The 49-year-old actor had no qualms about playing George because the movie was written so well the storyline became very “accessible”.

He explained: “There’s sex running all the way through the movie, even though we don’t need to see anybody doing it. I think the fact the man I play is open about the fact he is gay is definitely significant. But I think it just reinforces the power of the story, which is about a love between men that has a very accessible, universal quality.”

Colin Firth Thinks He Is Bit Old To Be A Sex Symbol

by cyan on Nov.23, 2009, under Actor

Colin Firth

The 49-year-old British actor – who gained his heartthrob status with performances in ‘Bridget Jones’ Diary’ and ‘Mamma Mia!’ – is flattered women find him attractive but is convinced he wouldn’t be lusted after by the opposite sex if he wasn’t an actor.

When asked how he feels being a sex symbol, he said: “I think I’m getting a bit old for that stuff now, aren’t I? I suppose that because of the profession I’m in, I do get a certain amount of attention that I probably would not get if I had not been known. I certainly wouldn’t get the attention I get if I hadn’t been on screen.”

Despite the attention he receives, Colin doesn’t take any notice and is kept grounded by his wife, Italian-born film director-and-producer Livia Giuggioli, with who he has two sons, eight-year-old Luca and six-year-old Matteo.

He added in an interview with Britain’s Hello! Magazine: “My wife is very useful at helping me keep my feet on the ground. I’d die for any of my family. I can’t say that I’d relish the prospect of doing so. But if it came down to it, the alternative would be unbearable, wouldn’t it.”

Jim Carrey Wouldn’t Want To Travel Through Time

by cyan on Nov.04, 2009, under Actor, Films

Jim Carrey

The Hollywood funnyman – who was in London’s Leicester Square last night (04.11.09) for the world premiere of his latest film Disney’s ‘A Christmas Carol’, based on the Charles Dickens story – has revealed he wouldn’t want to revisit his past or see into the future even if he had the chance.

He said: “There are some important physicists who now are telling us that all time is happening only once. So I think now is a good time.”

The 47-year-old actor – who was sporting a very full and bushy beard – was joined on the red carpet with his movie co-stars Colin Firth, Bob Hoskins and a host of celebrity guests as the British city was turned into festive spectacle with Christmas trees and fake snow.

He told BANG Showbiz: “This is overwhelming – even for my ego. This is amazing. I’m so happy to be here and to be a part of this. I want to thank the people of Britain for the legacy of Charles Dickens and the chance to tell this story. This story couldn’t be more important now. It’s about the immorality of greed.

“The movie expresses things that Dickens wrote about in a way that has no one ever been seen before. It’s a fantastic story. It’s present for all times.”

Jim portrays the greedy lead character, Ebenezer Scrooge, in the 3D film which also stars Gary Oldman, Cary Elwes and Robin Wright Penn.

The evening broke an Official Guinness World Record for the biggest ever Christmas carol sing-along, as over 7,000 singers – including celebrated tenor Andrea Bocelli – tested their vocal chords.
