Zeta-Jones Is 2 B 1 Of The Presenters At Tony Awards

by Alice on May.24, 2011, under Award

Catherine Zeta-JonesCatherine Zeta-Jones is to be one of the presenters at next month’s Tony Awards

The 41-year-old star – who, at last year’s ceremony, was named Best Leading Actress for her role in Broadway musical ‘A Little Night Music’ – will hand out one of the prizes at the prestigious event at New York’s Beacon Theatre on June 12.

Other stars who will be presenting awards include Daniel Radcliffe, Whoopi Goldberg, Chris Rock, Alec Baldwin, Samuel L. Jackson and Kelsey Grammer.

The awards – which will be hosted by ‘How I Met Your Mother’ star Neil Patrick Harris – will be one of Catherine’s first official public appearances since she announced last month she had been to rehab to receive treatment Bipolar II disorder, which is also known as manic depression.

At last year’s awards, after she was named Best Leading Actress, Catherine took to the stage to give a gushing speech, which included an intimate tribute to her husband Michael Douglas.

She told the audience: “See that man there? He’s a movie star and I get to sleep with him every night.”

However, she later admitted her comments her “crass”, saying: “It wasn’t the most elegant thing to say, was it? I was so caught up in the moment I don’t think I knew what I was saying. I had no control what was coming out of my mouth.

“Standing up there I felt speechless but obviously I said something but it was such a surprise that my brain didn’t really connect to my mouth.

“’What I said about Michael was heartfelt. Although thinking about it now I can’t believe I said something as crass as that.”

Michael On Catherine’s Depression

by Alice on Apr.26, 2011, under Actress

Catherine Zeta JonesMichael Douglas has said that Catherine Zeta-Jones’s depression was “outed”

The 41-year-old actress revealed earlier this month she was being treated for Bipolar II disorder – also known as manic depression – and her husband has told of how she decided to make it public because she feared someone else would.

He said: “Catherine’s being quite open about it because she was outed. “[She] went to get some help, and some other patient probably said, ‘Hey, you won’t believe who’s in here now.’ So, once that happens, I think she felt best to get out her story.”

Catherine was treated for five days at the Silver Hill Hospital in New Canaan, Connecticut, after developing the mental illness due to the stress of Michael’s recent battle with throat cancer. He said during an appearance on the ‘Oprah Winfrey Show’: “After dealing with the stress of the past year, Catherine made the decision to check into a mental health facility for a brief stay.”

He also hinted that the Welsh beauty found it hard to admit that she had the disorder to her husband because of other troubles in his life.
The 66-year-old actor added: “My son is in federal prison, my ex-wife is suing me…it’s kind of hard for the wife to say that she’s depressed.” Now her illness is known to the world Catherine hopes it will give other sufferers the strength to seek help. She said in a statement: “If my revelation of having Bipolar II has encouraged one person to seek help, then it is worth it.”

Michael Douglas Will Never 4-Give?

by Lisa on Jan.12, 2011, under Actor

Michael Douglas hasn’t forgiven the doctors who failed to spot his throat cancer

Although the ‘Wall Street’ actor is confident he has beaten the disease after the tumour has been successfully removed following six months of treatment, is still angry the illness wasn’t diagnosed sooner.

Speaking about when he first became ill at the beginning of last year, Michael said: “I went and saw a round of doctors in January-February and they didn’t pick up anything. They gave me some antibiotics and then I went and saw a round of doctors again in May and still nothing. Then my tongue started bothering me and by the time I took off for the summer and came back in August, I told my doctor ‘Hey, something’s going on.’ ”

The 66-year-old star – who has children Dylan, 10, and seven-year-old Carys with wife Catherine Zeta-Jones, as well as 32-year-old Cameron from a previous marriage – says he then went to see a specialist in August, who noticed a growth under his tongue and a biopsy confirmed the tumour was cancerous.

However, by the time it was discovered, the cancer had already progressed to stage four.

He told US TV show ‘Access Hollywood’: “I understand it’s a very difficult cancer tumour to find. It was under the tongue and it’s unusual, but I’m still doing my homework on it. I would say I have not forgiven…stage two would have been nicer than stage four.”

Catherine In Tear

by Alice on Jan.11, 2011, under Actor, Actress

Catherine In TearCatherine Zeta-Jones burst into tears when she heard Michael Douglas tumour had disappeared

The ‘Wall Street‘ actor endured a gruelling chemotherapy and radiotherapy treatment after he was diagnosed with throat cancer six months ago and his wife failed to control her emotions after the 66-year-old star was given the news his treatment had worked.

Michael said: “She had a good cry when she heard. I can’t tell you I was jumping up and clicking my heels. For me, it will probably be two or three months before it will really sink in and feel good.”

Catherine, 41, added her thanks to the medical staff who looked after her husband and declared it was a “fantastic” way to start 2011.

She said: “We are so grateful for the wonderful care Michael has received and of course for this happy news. It’s an incredible way to start the New Year.”

The couple had a low key celebration with their children Dylan, 10, and Carys, seven, where they dined on oysters and toasted with non-alcoholic cocktails.

Although drinking and smoking are believed to be two of the main causes of throat cancer, Michael allowed himself a glass of wine but admitted “it didn’t taste good.”

The actor – who lost 32lbs during his treatment – is now “going to be eating much more of an organic diet” in order to prevent the tumour returning.

by Alice on Sep.01, 2010, under Actor, Actress

Catherine Zeta-Jones admits it is tough watching her husband battle throat cancer

The 40-year-old actress is saddened by the toll gruelling radiotherapy and chemotherapy is having on Michael Douglas, who announced last month he was undergoing treatment after discovering a tumour at the base of his tongue.

She said: “The hardest part is seeing his fatigue, because Michael is never tired.”

The couple have two children together, Dylan, 10, and seven-year-old Carys and the ‘Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps’ actor – whose son from a previous marriage, 31-year-old Cameron, is currently serving a five-year jail term for drugs offences – insisted on breaking the news of his condition to them himself.

Catherine added to People magazine: “Daddy sat them down and told them he has cancer now.”

Despite admitting his cancer is at an advanced stage, 65-year-old Michael – who was diagnosed with the illness after complaining of persistent ear and throat pain – is confident he can beat the disease, though he is finding treatment hard.

He said: “It’s a fight. It really knocks you out.”

Catherine added: “If there’s anything Michael has, it’s strength.”

Young Men Are “selfish” To Date With Says Catherine Zeta-Jones

by Alice on Jan.08, 2010, under Actress

Catherine Zeta-Jones

The 40-year-old actress – who is married to 65-year-old actor Michael Douglas – says she could never date someone who is younger than her because they are so “selfish”.

She said: “I know that young men are more unbiased, playful and firmer. There’s no question about that. But they are also more selfish and narcissistic. This is why they never had a chance to go out with me.

“I need a man who is sensitive and caring. Someone who is superior to me and I can lean on. But that doesn’t mean not that I fancy old and fat men.”

The mother-of-two – who married ‘Fatal Attraction’ star Michael in 2000 – believes the Oscar-winning actor is her ideal man and has never worried about the 25-year age gap between them.

She told German magazine InTouch: “He knows exactly what he wants and what life is about. That impresses me. But Michael can also be a real softy. He sends me flowers and cries when his kids say something particularly pathetic.

“We didn’t care about the age gap from the beginning on. We relied more on our emotions and feelings. It was like that and it should always be like that.”

Catherine Zeta-Jones Flashed Her Breasts While Acting In A Theatre

by Kavy on Dec.21, 2009, under Actress

Catherine Zeta-Jones

The Welsh actress – who has children Dylan, nine, and Carys, six, with husband Michael Douglas – stunned the audience of her play ‘A Little Night Music’ on New York’s Broadway when she opened her kimono a little too much, revealing her breasts to the left side of the audience.

A theatre-goer said: “I couldn’t believe it. No wonder Michael Douglas looks so happy. The couple sitting next to me also saw it and poked each other.”

Critics have not been kind to Catherine for her portrayal of 19th century Swede Desiree in the production, with one blasting her for not being able to sing and act at the same time.

The 40-year-old star recently admitted she is “insecure” about her appearance.

She said: “I have many insecurities. I’m a lot more reserved and quiet than I let on to be.

“I think I’m not aesthetically beautiful. I have a broken nose here. I had a tracheotomy when I was a kid. I had broken capillaries. I always ask my husband, ‘Do I look fat in this dress?’ Can you see that spot on my face?’ ”
