Shakira has called time on her 11-year relationship

The Columbian-born singer and her boyfriend – Argentinean political advisor Antonio de la Rua – parted ways last August, but decided to keep the news their romance had ended private until now.

In a joint statement on Shakira’s website, the former couple said: “During our almost 11 years together we have loved each other deeply, taken care of each other and stood by one another.

“They have been the most wonderful years of our lives, and thanks to that love and the respect that we share for one another we have been an exceptional couple and partners.”

Despite the split, the pair – who were rumoured to be engaged – explained they still plan to work alongside one another, as they have an “indestructible” friendship.

They added: “We move forward as partners, developing projects together, working hand in hand and in close communication. Our friendship and understanding of one another is unwavering and indestructible.”

The 33-year-old ‘She Wolf‘ hitmaker previously admitted she was keen to have children with Antonio, 37, once she had fulfilled her existing work commitments.

She said last year: “Do I have any plans for children? Little wolves? Yeah, of course. I’d really like to have kids, but first I need to go on tour and release this new album – and then we can sit down and talk about it.”

Shakira doesn’t want to get married even though she’s engaged.

The ‘Hips Don’t Lie’ singer says she has no intention of tying the knot with fiance Antonio De La Rua, despite saying yes when he popped the question over four years ago.

She said: “I have no plans to get married. Ever.

“There’s something romantic about being someone’s girlfriend forever. I like the state that I’m in.”

Although she has no plans to marry, the 33-year-old beauty says she and Antonio are keen to start a family together.

She told the News of the World newspaper: “I definitely plan to have children but I don’t see a wedding dress.”

Shakira, who met Antonio nine years ago in a restaurant in Argentina, has recently admitted she knew straight away he was ‘The One’.

She said: “The minute I walked in, I saw him sitting, and I thought, ‘That man is for me, he’s the man of my life.’ I kept staring at him until I got to meet him that night. And then I just followed my intuition and everything worked out. Frankly, meeting him that night was like winning the lottery.”

The singer sticks to a strict healthy eating and fitness regime to stay in shape but says it’s crucial to treat yourself to your favourite foods on occasions.

She said: “I think it is important that you are in balance. I really like to eat, I love chocolate and all kinds of sweets. I’m absolutely addicted to it.”

Shakira, 32, also revealed she is constantly changing as a person and if her new album ‘She Wolf’ seems to be focused on sex it’s because she is a more sexual person than she was in her 20s.

The pop beauty – who is engaged to Antonio de la Rua – added to German newspaper Bild: “I think that’s how life works: You’re changing and you’re constantly looking for an improved version of yourself. In my life there is one fixed constant – the connection between my music and soul. My performances are always an expression of how I feel. If I appear at the moment more sensual than before it is because this aspect plays a greater role in my life than a decade ago. I’m a woman and I think that this femininity is reflected in my new album.”
