Russell Brand thinks the UK riots are “sad and frightening”

The British comedian – who now lives in Los Angeles with his wife Katy Perry – is upset areas he has previously lived in London has been affected by the looting and violence in the last week and hopes his views do not irritate because he no longer lives in England.

He wrote on his website: “This week’s riots are sad and frightening and if I have by virtue of my temporary displacement forgone the right to speak about the behaviour of my countrymen then this is gonna be irksome.

“I’ve lived in Dalston, Hackney, Elephant, Camden and Bethnal Green, I grew up around Dagenham and Romford and whilst I could never claim to be from the demographic most obviously affected I feel guilty that I’m not there now.

“I feel proud to be English, proud to be a Londoner (alright an Essex boy) never more so than since being in exile and I naturally begin to wonder what would make young people destroy their communities.”

Although the 36-year-old star believes he does not know the answer to the problem – which was sparked by the killing of Mark Duggan by police last week – because of his celebrity lifestyle, he hopes people learn to deal with their problems spiritually.

He added: “I don’t know enough about politics to ponder a solution and my hands are sticky with blood money from representing corporate interests through film, television and commercials, venerating, through my endorsements and celebrity, products and a lifestyle that contributes to the alienation of an increasingly dissatisfied underclass.

“But I know, as we all intuitively know, that the solution is all around us and it isn’t political, it is spiritual. Ghandi said, ‘Be the change you want to see in the world.’ ”

Gallagher Out of the Hospital, Resuming Tour

Good news for Gallgher fans — he’s out of the hospital, three days after he collapsed on stage during a show … TMZ has learned.

As TMZ first reported, the legendary comedian collapsed in Rochester, MN right in the middle of his act. His manager tells TMZ he has left the hospital and even though he canceled a few tour dates, Gallagher will be resuming his tour on March 19 in The Woodlands, TX.

Watermelons of Texas, you have been warned.

Gallagher’s Stage Collapse — Caught on Tape

Comedian Gallagher collapsed on stage during a performance in Minnesota Thursday night … and the scary moment was all captured on video.

The footage — shot in Rochester, Minnesota at Whiskey Bones Road House — shows Gallagher slam something with his sledgehammer … then hunch over and fall backwards onto the stage.

Moments after Gallagher hits the ground, people from the audience ran on stage to help. He was transported to Saint Mary’s Hospital shortly after the incident.

A rep for Gallagher tells TMZ he is awake this morning, feeling weak, but his spirits are good. Doctors have not yet determined what happened.

Katy Perry’s children will take priority over her music career when she becomes a mother

The pop star wants to focus on her family when she and husband Russell Brand – who she wed in India in October – decide to have a baby and she insists she will fit her career around her responsibilities as a parent

She said: “My singing is really important to me, but when children come along they’ll be my main focus. I’d never put my career in front of my babies – it’d be a case of fitting jobs around them.”

Although the 26-year-old singer has been thinking about having a baby, she insists it could be years before she and her comedic spouse start a family, though she admits she would like more than one child.

She added: “Look, any couple in a serious relationship has that talk about babies, but we haven’t decided when. Russell wants lots of children and I think there’s something amazing about tons of kids running around. We probably won’t have the talk again for a few years – it’s important to enjoy each other before having babies.”

The ‘Firework’ singer – who tied the knot with British comedian Russell Brand last month – admitted while she is looking forward to having children with her new spouse, she doesn’t plan on becoming any less “provocative”.

She said: “Being married feels lovely. I want to have children and start a family. When you find your husband some people might slow down. But I’m still young. I have a lot of energy and individual goals to reach. I’m very independent, like a cat.

“People tell me, ‘Oh, you’re gonna be boring now you’re married’. I say, ‘Look at f***ing Beyonce!’ She’s married to Jay-Z. She’s so sexy but she’s a married woman. She absolutely rocks it. I won’t be less sexy or provocative.”

The 26-year-old beauty also revealed while she is generally a “good girl”, she is well aware of her sex appeal and likes to use it to “tease” men.

Katy added to the News of the World newspaper: “I’m a good girl because I believe in love, integrity and respect. I’m a bad girl because I like to tease.

Rihanna and Katy Perry are BFFs — and both mega pop stars — so of course Katy understood when her close pal had to work, rather than fly to India for Katy’s wedding to Russell Brand … this according to sources close to the wedding.

Perry and Brand tied the knot earlier today in a traditional Hindu wedding. But while reports say the wedding was just family friends, sources tell us Katy’s good friend Rihanna wasn’t in attendance.

Rihanna was a part of Katy’s Las Vegas bachelorette party – but, according to our source, Rihanna told Katy she couldn’t make it because she had to hit the studio.

We’re told Katy booked a special room for Rihanna — but she totally understood why RiRi couldn’t hop a plane to India.

Katy Perry and Russell Brand have got married

The couple tied the knot in on Saturday (23.10.10) at the luxury Aman-i-Khas resort in Rajasthan, India, which is located near the Ranthambore National Park – which is the country’s leading tiger park and also home to other wildlife including leopards, deer and exotic birds.

A representative for the newlyweds released a statement saying: “Russell Brand and Katy Perry are overjoyed to confirm that they were pronounced Mr. and Mrs. Brand on Saturday, October 23. The very private and spiritual ceremony, attended by the couples’ closest family and friends was performed by a Christian minister and long-time friend of the Hudson Family. The backdrop was the inspirational and majestic countryside of Northern India.”

Guests are believed to include Katy’s close friend Rihanna, and British comedian David Baddiel and his wife Morwenna Banks.

Heavy security guarded the location of the nuptials and local police officers surrounded the adjacent fields and the resort’s walls.

Katy Perry thinks her fiance Russell Brand is the “funniest man in the world”

The ‘I Kissed a Girl’ beauty – who is set to wed the British comedian in the next few weeks – admits Russell is “brilliant” and never fails to make her laugh.

She said: “I think he is the funniest man in the world. He isbrilliant. People should not have a problem with him. Russell Brand isawesome!”

The 25-year-old singer has also revealed how she was forced to change her name from her real moniker Katy Hudson after people kept asking if she was related to Hollywood actress Kate Hudson.

She laughed: “Living in Los Angeles there can only be one Kate Hudson. People kept asking me if I was her less famous sister. It was weird and stupid so I changed my surname to Perry as that is my mum’s maiden name.”

Katy’s mother Mary and father Keith are both pastors who she admits brought her up in a “strict” household. However, Katy admits she relished the chance to experience life once she moved away from their family home.

She explained: “I love my parents and appreciate the love and strength they gave me but since moving out of home and living in Los Angeles for many years, I now understand a lot more about life. If you love someone and respect them, that is all that counts.”

Russell Brand Has a Date with the City Attorney

Russell Brand’s arrest for a run-in with a paparazzo could be settled in the L.A. City Attorney’s Office … TMZ has learned.

Law enforcement sources tell TMZ the meeting is set for November 19 — during which Brand, the paparazzo and the City Attorney will have a sit-down and try to work out the differences.

Presuming they hash it out, Brand won’t be prosecuted.

As we first reported, Brand was arrested on September 17 after he allegedly attacked a photographer. Brand claims he only lashed out because the photog was trying to snap photos up fiancee Katy Perry’s skirt.

Chris Rock, Jon Stewart Attend Wake for Greg Giraldo

Greg Giraldo was just laid to rest in a private family ceremony in The Hamptons … but last night, tons of Giraldo’s famous friends — including Jon Stewart and Chris Rock — gathered for a wake in his honor.

Among the famous comics who paid their respects at Giraldo’s wake — Sarah Silverman, Jeff Ross, Bobby Kelly, Jim Norton and Colin Quinn.

And, despite the presence of so many comics — it wasn’t jokey at all … the mood was described as “very sad and emotional.”

We’re also told Colin Quinn delivered a very heartfelt speech about his friend.

As we previously reported, Greg passed away last week at the age of 44. Several of the comic’s close friends have set up a fund to support and educate his three young sons.

Ralphie May — ‘Stupid’ to Pet Drug-Sniffing Dogs

Ralphie May is an “idiot” – his word, not ours — because he got caught carrying pot through customs in Guam … after he approached a drug-sniffing dog because he thought it was cute.

May was busted for weed last week, but only had to pay a small fine because he was carrying less than an ounce. The comedian tells us he didn’t realize the pot was in his bag when, on his way through customs, he went up to the dog and started petting it.

May, who has a medical marijuana card, explains: “When I got to baggage claim, I actually walked up to the dog. I love dogs and petted Nickey, the beautiful shepherd mix, and she sat down. That indicates to the handler that I had marijuana on me. I didn’t know that, I just thought that dog loved me. Then another dog came over and it sat down as well and I petted that dog too. I was thinking these dogs love me they can tell I’m a dog person.”

May dealt with some very nice customs agents and he explained the mix-up. May says, “The customs agents said they knew I didn’t mean to smuggle drugs into Guam cause no drug smuggler would be stupid enough to walk up to the dogs and pet them.”

Russell Brand and Katy Perry’s wedding will last a week

The couple – who have been dating since September 2009 – have sent out invitations to their friends and family for the ceremony, which will take place in India later this month.

The white embossed cards said: “Meet you in Delhi in October. Dates to follow. Please allow seven days for this event.”
The pair – who got engaged at the Taj Rambagh Palace hotel in Jaipur on New Year’s Eve last year (31.12.09) and were blessed in a spiritual ceremony in the country days later – are reportedly planning a Hollywood-meets-Bollywood theme and have enlisted celebrity wedding planner Mindy Weiss to arrange their big day.

A source told the Daily Mirror newspaper: “Expect the most vibrant wedding of the year. It will be a mix of traditional Hollywood glamour with Katy’s hair and dress, plus Indian touches like henna art on her hands and feet, an Indian tiara and hair brooches.

“About 75 to 100 guests will be staying at a resort in India and the ceremony is going to be held at an ashram.”
And guests at the glitzy bash will include comedian David Walliams, singers Morrissey and Rihanna, rocker Noel Gallagher and presenter Jonathan Ross.

Greg Giraldo — The Final Performance

TMZ has obtained footage from Greg Giraldo’s last stand-up gig — taken the night before the comic overdosed — in which Greg appeared to be his usual self … crackin’ jokes about sex, drugs and Tiger Woods.

After the performance at the Stress Factory in New Brunswick, NJ on September 24 — Greg took photos with several fans … all of whom told us he couldn’t have been nicer.

The following night, Greg was rushed to a local hospital from an overdose on pills. He passed away 5 days later.

Greg Giraldo Death — Family Pulled Life Support

Greg Giraldo had been in a coma for five days when his family ultimately made the decision to end the comedian’s life … TMZ has learned.

Sources close to the situation tell us Greg had remained in a coma since he overdosed last weekend in New Jersey.

We’re told doctors weren’t able to resuscitate him, and Greg’s family decided to take him off life support yesterday.

Greg Giraldo’s Would-Be Gig Becomes Memorial

TMZ has learned … the comedy club where Greg Giraldo was scheduled to perform this weekend is now putting together plans for a memorial instead, featuring a tribute to the late comedian’s life.

The manager at Governor’s Comedy Club in Levittown, NY tells TMZ, the memorial is scheduled for Friday at 10:30 PM … exactly when Greg was supposed to take the stage.

We’re told the club will be playing Greg’s DVDs on the televisions — there won’t be any admission fee … and all donations will go to Greg’s family.

The manager tells us, “We just want to commemorate his life.” As we previously reported, Greg passed away yesterday … five days after he was hospitalized for an overdose.

Comedian Greg Giraldo is Dead

Comedian Greg Giraldo died today at the age of 44 – five days after he was hospitalized for an overdose.

Greg had been hospitalized in New Brunswick, NJ after he overdosed on prescription pills last weekend. His rep said the overdose was not a suicide attempt.

Giraldo was best known for his celebrity roast appearances. He had also been a judge on “Last Comic Standing.”

A source close to Greg tells us, “Greg passed away today at the hospital in New Brunswick as a result of an accidental overdose. His family was by his side.”

We’re told plans are being made for a public memorial service.

Sources say George and Ann have been working out details of the split “for a long time,” but they’ve both made the decision to end the marriage.

We’re told Giraldo — best known for his appearances on Comedy Central roasts — was taken to a hospital in New Brunswick, NJ after he was found by a friend.

According to our sources, Giraldo overdosed on prescription pills … but it was not a suicide attempt.

We’re told he is currently in critical but stable condition.

Katy Perry and Russell Brand are enjoying a holiday in Graceland

The couple – who are due to marry in the coming weeks after a year-long relationship – have posted a number of pictures on twitter of their escapades at the former Tennessee home of late rock ‘n’ roll legend Elvis Presley.

Russell uploaded a photo of the Elvis and Priscilla Presley Barbie wedding dolls, adding the caption: “Mum. Have moved to the South and made friends with a lovely little couple. Send condoms.”

Katy hinted the couple had “relocated” to the Memphis estate, posting a picture of the pair sitting outside the front door.

The British comic actor – who met Katy at the MTV Video Music Awards in September 2009 – was recently arrested after an altercation with a paparazzi photographer at Los Angeles International Airport and had to post $20,000 bail to be released.

He is due in court on October 15 on charges of simple battery, possibly scuppering plans for him and Katy to marry in India – the same place he proposed to her in the early hours of New Year’s Day (01.01.10).

Russell recently professed he knew he was in love with Katy when she threw a half-empty bottle at him backstage at the MTV Video Music Awards.

He said: “You’ll think it frivolous of me to say I knew I’d marry her on that first date, but the truth is I fell in love with her when she hit me with that bottle. Like Cupid in a riot.”

The British comedian – who was at one time renowned for his womanising ways, before settling down with his pop star fiancee Katy Perry – took the supermodel back to his house in 2006 after being introduced to her by their mutual friend Sadie Frost.

Russell, 35, reveals in his new book ‘My Booky Wook 2: This Time It’s Personal’: “When we arrive at Sadie’s house it is decided that Matt Morgan, co-presenter of my radio show, should walk into the house, so there is no photo of me and her together.

“This gives me hope that we do have something to hide, but also makes me jealous of Matt as he gets to walk up the driveway with her.

“Within the beautiful house we flirt for a while, then under some mutual pretence of looking at hung photographs of Sadie’s deplorably gorgeous children we wander off. We are alone.

“Eventually there is no more universe between our lips and so we kiss. And yes, on one level I’m enjoying the kiss, but my mind is screaming, screeching, body-popping, lambada-ing, every-dance-craze-there’s-ever-been-ing.

Russell Brand has just been arrested for allegedly attacking paparazzi at LAX airport … TMZ has learned, and it was a citizen’s arrest.

As we first reported, Brand and Katy Perry were going through Delta security when he allegedly began pushing and striking paparazzi.

We’re told a photog — one of the alleged victims — made the citizen’s arrest and LAX cops facilitated it.

Cops interviewed Brand, then took him into custody.

Roast King Jeff Ross Wrecks in Hollywood

Comedian Jeff Ross – a staple on the Comedy Central roasts — was just involved in a three car accident in Hollywood.

Jeff was able to walk away from the wreck, but the L.A. City Fire Department tells us one person was taken to a hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

We’re on the scene, where Jeff says he’s “a little shaken up.”

His 2010 Prius took a major hit in the accident, but in true roast master fashion he managed to crack some jokes. We’ll have the video shortly.

Whitney Cummings: I May’ve Gone Too Far at ‘Roast’

Comedian Whitney Cummings claims she’s “not a horrible person” — despite the barrage of insults she hurled at Comedy Central’s Roast of David Hasselhoff … though she may have one regret.

As you may remember — Cummings sent jaws to the floor at The Hoff’s Roast when she suggested that Hulk Hogan’s daughter Brooke,Pam Anderson along with , should both drink a “vat of Magic Johnson’s blood.”

But last night outside Sam Tripoli’s Naughty Night at the Improv on Melrose — she admitted, “I did say some things about [Hulk's] daughter that weren’t necessary … but I don’t think I was the meanest.”

Cummings — who has a Comedy Central special of her own on the way — also noted, “It’s a Roast … the idea is to be edgy and mean.”
