R.E.M. have split up

The legendary ‘Man on the Moon’ rockers have announced they are to part ways after 31 years and 15 albums together. A statement on their website reads: “To our Fans and Friends: As R.E.M., and as lifelong friends and co-conspirators, we have decided to call it a day as a band.

“We walk away with a great sense of gratitude, of finality, and of astonishment at all we have accomplished. To anyone who ever felt touched by our music, our deepest thanks for listening.”

Each member of the group – singer Michael Stipe, guitarist Peter Buck and bassist Mike Mills – also wrote their individual feelings about the end of the band.

Michael wrote: “A wise man once said – ‘the skill in attending a party is knowing when it’s time to leave.’ We built something extraordinary together. We did this thing. And now we’re going to walk away from it (sic). Mike added he felt that the bands last album, ‘Collapse Into Now’ – released in March – drew a “natural line” under their work and said the break up has not been caused by any hard feelings between the members.

He said: “There’s no disharmony here, no falling-outs, no lawyers squaring-off. We’ve made this decision together, amicably and with each other’s best interests at heart. The time just feels right.” Drummer Bill Berry – who left the band in 1997 and was not replaced – has yet to comment.

Formed in 1980, R.E.M. were pioneers of the underground indie music scene in the U.S., building a strong fan base, particularly among college students, through constant touring. Although their albums were critically acclaimed, their first mainstream hit didn’t come until 1987 with ‘The One I Love’.

The band signed with major label Warner Brothers in 1988 and hit their commercial peak in the early 90s with their albums ‘Out of Time’ – which spawned the singles ‘Losing My Religion’ and ‘Shiny Happy People’ and ‘Automatic for the People’.

The band continued to have huge success and produce a prolific number of albums through the 90s, and while their experimentation with their musical style was less commercially successful in the last decade, they were inducted into the Rock ‘n’ Roll Hall of Fame in 2007 and continued to be held in high regard by both fans and critics.

Lindsay Lohan attended a Coldplay concert in Los Angeles last night (03.08.11) as a special guest of frontman Chris Martin

The troubled actress – who was recent released from house arrest, served in lieu of jail time for taking a necklace from a boutique and violating the terms of probation set for her 2007 conviction for driving under the influence (DUI) – is a huge fan of the British rockers and reached out to Chris for tickets as the pair have been “good friends” for years, according to gossip website TMZ.

Lindsay – who brought her younger sister Ali to the gig, where they enjoyed prime seats near the stage – later tweeted: “I love Coldplay!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! W/my sis (sic)”

Coldplay paid tribute to the late singer Amy Winehouse during the band’s encore, where they performed a slower version of her hit ‘Rehab’, before singing their own song ‘Fix You’.

Lindsay is not Coldplay’s only famous fan. Chris’ wife Gwyneth – who has two children, Apple, seven and Moses, five with her musician spouse – recently revealed she is having trouble getting hold of their new LP, which is due to be released later this year, despite her close relationship with the band.

She wrote on twitter: “Who do I have to bang to get an advance copy of the new coldplayalbum? I mean, really.(sic)”

Kings of Leon have cancelled their entire US tour

The American band – comprised of brothers Jared, Caleb and Nathan Followill, as well as their cousin Matthew – have called a halt to their planned concerts in America blaming “vocal issues and exhaustion” on Caleb’s part.

A statement on behalf of the band said: “We are so sorry to say Kings of Leon are cancelling their entire US tour due to Caleb Followill suffering from vocal issues and exhaustion.

“The band is devastated, but in order to give their fans the shows they deserve, they need to take this break. Unfortunately, the US dates cannot be rescheduled due to the band’s international tour schedule.”

The news comes after Caleb walked off stage in Dallas, Texas, on Saturday (30.07.11), blaming the heat.

He said: “My voice is completely 100 percent wrong. I’m sorry.

“I’m gonna go backstage for a second. I’m gonna vomit. I’m gonna drink some beer … and for the record, I’m not drunk … I’m about to fall down here because I’m so goddamn hot. … I’m gonna come back out here and I’m gonna play three more songs.”

However,he never returned to the stage with Jared revealing there was a “bigger” problem with the group.

He wrote on twitter: “I love our fans so much. I know you guys aren’t stupid. I can’t lie. There are problems in our band bigger than not drinking enough Gatorade.”

According to gossip website TMZ, tickets will be refunded and the band will resume touring in Canada on September 28th.

Former Sugababe Keisha Buchanan made peace with her former bandmates in an emotional reunion this evening (01.07.11)

Keisha left the group to in 2009 amidst rumours of fall-outs with other members Heidi Range and Amelle Berrabah, but today they put their differences behind them, speaking for the first time in almost two years at the Barclaycard Wireless festival in London.

Amelle exclusively told BANG Showbiz: “I was really nervous when we saw her, but we had a little chat and I feel like we can now put everything behind us, my heart now feels complete.” The teary reunion saw Keisha – the last remaining original member of the group to leave – make the first move, approaching her former band mates in the backstage Barclays Unwind area of the festival.

A BANG Showbiz reporter who witnessed the reunion, said: “It was really tense. Sugababes were already here where Kesha arrived. “After a short while talking with her friends, Keisha took the plunge and spoke to the girls. It was very emotional, both her and Heidi hugged for ages and were crying. They had a brief chat, Keisha even hugged Amelle before she left. “Heidi said afterward she was shaking with nerves.”

Keisha was replaced in the group by Jade Ewen, giving the band an entirely different line up to the when it started in 1998 with Keisha, Mutya Buena and Siobhan Donaghy. Heidi is the second longest serving member, replacing Siobhan in 2001, while Amelle replaced Mutya in 2005.

U2 are looking forward to seeing Elbow perform at Glastonbury

The legendary ‘With or Without You’ rockers are headlining the British festival on June 24 and are hoping to get the chance to see one of their favourite bands play.

Bassist Adam Clayton said: “Elbow are on before us so hopefully I’ll be able to see them from the side of the stage. They create a very special sound.”

Adam added that it will be a “special moment” for the band to finally play the festival for the first time ever, after pulling out of its 40th anniversary celebrations last year after singer Bono needed to treatment for a back injury.

He added: “Really, since about 1985, we haven’t done festivals at all because we’ve done our own big summer concerts.

“We haven’t played the UK the last couple of summers so it’ll be a special moment.”

Although U2 have not performed at the festival as a band, Adam has played with the band Hothouse Flowers in 1989 and last year guitarist The Edge appeared with Muse to perform a version of U2’s ‘Where The Streets Have No Name’ in lieu of his own band’s performance.

Mel B would “love” another Spice Girls reunion

The 35-year-old star hasn’t discussed with her former bandmates – Victoria Beckham, Geri Halliwell, Emma Bunton and Mel C – the possibility of taking to the stage again but thinks they should get back together to make new music.

She said: “I’d love to get back with the Spice Girls.

“I’ve always championed more Spice Girls concerts, DVDs and music. But we haven’t had that conversation as a group yet and I can’t speak on everyone’s behalf.”

In the meantime, Mel is focused on bringing the Spice Girls musical, ‘Viva Forever’, to the stage, but is remaining tight-lipped about the exact nature of the show.

She added: “Right now, we’re all talking about the musical ‘Viva Forever’, which is coming out next year. I’m not allowed to say anything about it yet though.”

The Spice Girls first split in 1998 following the departure of Geri. They reunited as a five-piece in 2007 but their world tour came to a sudden end the following year, with many proposed shows scrapped.

My Chemical Romance scooped two trophies at tonight’s (23.02.11) NME Awards

The US rockers were the biggest winners, taking home Best International Band and ‘Best Video’ for their track ‘Na Na Na’ at the British Magazine’s annual ceremony. Muse were named Best British band, while Arcade Fire took home Best Album for ‘The Suburbs’ at the event, held at London’s Brixton Academy.

My Chemical Romance – who opened the show with a rendition of ‘Na Na Na’ – were greeted by fans who had camped out overnight in the hope of meeting them. After accepting their two trophies, frontman Gerard Way said: “When the fans vote on something it’s amazing. Their dedication is just incredible. “A night like this you really want to try and meet them, we met a bunch before we got in the building which made us happy. We actually went to the red carpet early to do that.”

Scottish act Biffy Clyro flew in from the US, where they are presently touring, to collect Best Live Act. Drummer Ben Johnston said: “Live is really such a big part of what we do. To be in a category with Muse and Arcade Fire – who are, in my opinion two of the best live bands in the world – and to come out on top over them is just f***ing mindblowing. We are dumbfounded.”

Indie group Foals picked up Best Track for song ‘Spanish Sahara’, while Hurts were named Best New Band. Performances on the night included PJ Harvey, who won the Teenage Cancer Trust Outstanding Contribution To Music prize, and Foo Fighters, who closed the show and who saw lead singer, Dave Grohl, given the annual Godlike Genius accolade. Dave said: “My bandmates love it, they’ve been ribbing me ever since I found I was getting this. “They’ve given me so much s**t about this award that I wish it was called something else, like ‘Oldest Guy At The Award Ceremony’ award.”

Nick Jonas wants to appear in ‘Glee’

The 18-year-old singer is a big fan of the US musical drama series and would be “honoured” if show creator Ryan Murphy offered him a cameo role.

He said: “Everybody says this, obviously, in the entertainment business because it’s such a popular show – that’s why I’m reluctant to say it from time to time – but I really do appreciate the use of music in ‘Glee.’ I think everyone can relate that’s in the music business. Everyone’s just thankful that music is kind of popular again because ‘Glee’ does a great job of incorporating it into the show.

“I would humbly say that if there’s ever an opportunity they see that I could work well on that show, I would be honoured. Plus I think that cast is really talented – it would be fun.”

Even if he isn’t offered a role in the show, the Jonas Brothers star would happily grant permission for his music to be used.

He told website TVSquad.com: “Would I let them use our music? Absolutely! Whatever they wanted to use.”

Stars to have made cameo appearances on ‘Glee’ in the past include Britney Spears and Gwyneth Paltrow.

Joe Jonas and Ashley Greene surprised diners with their down-to-earth behaviour at a Louisiana eatery on Saturday (29.01.11)

The 21-year-old singer and the ‘Twilight Saga‘ actress – who have been dating Joe since last summer – took time out from their late night meal at the Ichiban Japanese Grill and Sushi Bar in Baton Rouge to chat to and pose for pictures with fellow diners and staff.

One of the managers told People magazine: “They were really friendly. They just walked in, sat down, and the word started going around that they were here.

“They each had a Hibachi meal and some sushi. The kitchen crew and wait staff were excited to see them. Some of them stayed late because they were hoping to get their picture.

“I don’t watch the ‘Twilight’ movies, so I wasn’t so familiar with them. But everyone else in the restaurant knew who they were. They were definitely there together, as a couple. I have to say, they were very nice. I think they’ll come back.”

Ashley, 23, is currently filming ‘Breaking Dawn’ the two-part finale to the ‘Twilight: Saga’ series in Baton Rouge and is expected to remain in the city for two more weeks.

Jade Ewen is scared she will get caught wearing “granny pants”

The Sugababes singer he is scared of being in an accident that would result in her having her clothes taken away and exposing her underwear, so always makes sure she chooses nice garments.

She said: “I’ve always had this fear that if I were ever in an accident and needed to have my clothes cut off in hospital, it’d be really embarrassing to be caught wearing granny pants and a purple bra!”

However, the 23-year-old star does not always get it right and once exposed herself more than she planned because an outfit did not allow her to wear a bra. She admitted: “Once, I was wearing a backless jumpsuit, so I couldn’t wear a bra, and I had a nipple slip. Not fun.”

Despite had underwear issues, Jade is the current face of lingerie collection Miss Ultimo and she confesses she is not a natural in front of the camera. She said: “I’m always shy to begin with. I’m very aware of my body and can over-think everything. I try not to think about it too much until I’m in front of the camera, as I have a really bad habit of building things up in my head. “Naturally, as the day progresses, I tend to warm up and relax.”

Lea Michele is to perform at next month’s Super Bowl

The ‘Glee’ actress – who plays Rachel Berry in the musical TV show – will sing ‘America the Beautiful’ before the NFL showpiece game on February 6 in Arlington, Texas.

The 24-year-old star joins Faith Hill, Queen Latifah, Alicia Keys, Mary J. Blige, Marc Anthony, Ray Charles and Vicki Carr as the only artists to perform the song at the prestigious match.

As well as Lea, earlier this week it was revealed Christina Aguilera will sing the national anthem ahead of the match between the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Green Bay Packers.

In a statement released by the NFL, Christina said: “I have been performing the anthem since I was seven years old and I must say the Super Bowl is a dream come true. I am really excited to be part of such an iconic event.”

Black Eyed Peas will perform during the halftime interval and the ‘I Gotta Feeling’ hitmakers have also joined forces with Sports Illustrated magazine to host a star-studded bash for the event.

Black Eyed Peas are to host a star-studded Super Bowl party

The ‘I Gotta A Feeling‘ hitmakers – who are performing during the half-time interval at the NFL showpiece game in Arlington, Texas, on February 6 – have joined forces with Sports Illustrated magazine to put on the bash, which they have promised will be the hottest in town.

Singer Fergie – who is part owner of the Miami Dolphins – said: “As an NFL owner and a football fan, I cannot be more excited to join forces with Sports Illustrated for the hottest party of the season. It will be the kick-off to an amazing weekend in Dallas and we can’t wait to get it started.”

As well as Black Eyed Peas, other guests include singer David Guetta and Sports Illustrated models Christine Teigen, Anne V, Julie Henderson and Genevieve Morton.

The game – between the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Green Bay Packers -will attract a star-studded audience as well as one of the biggest TV audiences of the year.

Victoria Beckham is craving marmalade

The singer-turned-fashion designer – who is pregnant with her fourth child with husband David Beckham – has developed a hunger for the sweet orange preserve, accompanied by cups of English breakfast tea.

A source told The Sun newspaper: “Victoria is having a lot of tea and toast with lashings of marmalade. She can’t get enough of the stuff.

“Mostly she’s been having it on toast, accompanied by lots of cups of tea.”

The 36-year-old star suffered from bad morning sickness whilst pregnant with her first three children, Brooklyn, 11, Romeo, eight, and Cruz, five, but this time round she is not feeling so ill.

The source added: “She’s not having morning sickness like she has done before.”

The former Spice Girl is around four months pregnant, with the baby due in the summer.

Earlier this month, Victoria tweeted her excitement about the impending new arrival, saying she and David were “very excited”.

Gary Barlow used to get up early so he could eat more

The Take That singer – who famously ballooned to over 240lbs after the group split up in 1996 – admits he has learned how to control his eating habits by not always being strict with himself but found it hard to stick to in a sensible way at first.

He explained: “The key to me was portion sizes and I think people forget that, if you can control your portion size you can eat what you want and you’ve cracked it.

“I have Saturdays off, I was getting a lot of advice and this guy said if you just diet seven days a week, you’ll get fed up and fall off the wagon.

“I’d get up early on a Saturday to get started but I would make such a pig of myself and I thought ‘I don’t want to be this’ and after a few weeks the food got less and now it’s a part of life, I know when I’m full and I even recognise when I’m full but want to keep eating because I’m a pig!”

The ‘Patience’ hitmaker also knows he needs to work out regularly to help keep his weight down.

He added: “I must say if I didn’t train as much I’d be a different size but I work out every day except Saturdays and Sundays. I’m a cardio man, I do tennis, I do Pilates. I’ve never done yoga.”

Gary Barlow can’t wait to go on holiday without his kids

The Take That frontman – who has children Daniel, 10, Emily, eight, and two-year-old Daisy with wife Dawn – is planning a romantic break with his spouse, though he claims he is worried about how well they will get along without the rest of their family.

He said: “The kids keep us pretty busy, although in about a week’s time, we’re going off on holiday, me and the wife with no kids, for the first time in about 11 years. I’m making a list of things we can talk about!

“I’m really looking forward to it, I’m taking my keyboard with me, and my laptop. No I’m not really.”

Though the ‘Flood‘ singer – who turns 40 today (20.01.11) – claims to struggle for conversation around his wife, he won’t be finding other ways to occupy their time together after admitting he finds it “insulting” when people use their mobile phones in his company.

He told BBC Radio 2 DJ Chris Evans: “I get really insulted when people bring their phones to the dinner table and send texts, am I not important enough for you? It really annoys me. “

Sources close to the band tell TMZ … Erik-Michael, Dan, Trevor and Jacob are back in the studio … sans one member who just didn’t feel like getting the band back together — Ashely Parker-Angel.

We’re told the guys — who were all plucked out of obscurity on the very first “Making the Band” in 2000 — have been kicking around the idea of a reunion for a while … and have spent almost a year trying to get Ashley on board.

But a few weeks ago — when it became clear Ashley wasn’t going to change his mind — the guys decided to officially move forward without him … and are now trying to work out some tour dates.

They want it all … or nothing at all.”

A.J. McLean in Rehab

A.J. McLean from the Backstreet Boys has gone into rehab again … TMZ has learned.

One source tells TMZ McLean has been “out of control” in the last few months because of substance abuse, and it was interfering with the Backstreet Boys’ upcoming tour with New Kids on the Block.

McLean has battled addiction for years. He was in rehab in both 2001 and 2002 for alcohol and cocaine abuse.

Kylie Minogue wanted to work with Primal Scream

The Australian singer – who has previously collaborated with artists including Nick Cave and Manic Street Preachers – approached the ‘Loaded’ hitmakers to write a track for her, but the group were having too many problems to accept.

Frontman Bobby Gillespie revealed: “We met her twice – at a photoshoot and then she came to a gig in Australia. She was lovely. “I think she was looking for us to write a song for her and make a record with her. But we were having problems even writing songs for ourselves at that point. So it never happened.”

Primal Scream – who were previously famed for their drink and drug-fuelled partying – recently marked 25 years since the release of their first single ‘All Fall Down’ but the group are surprised their career has lasted so long.

Asked if he ever expected the group to be around 25 years, 48-year-old Bobby admitted to Q magazine: “I didn’t think I’d be alive then. I probably didn’t want to be alive. Seriously. “So the answer is no. But I always knew we were good. It was always a serious thing. It wasn’t like a part-time thing before you go back to doing a real job.”

Kings of Leon refused to let Prince Harry win a table tennis match

The ‘Sex on Fire’ group’s drummer Nathan Followill thinks the 26-year-old royal – who is third in line to the British throne – is “cool” but his competitive nature came to the forefront when they recently met at London’s The O2.

Nathan said: “We’re still pretty wide-eyed about meeting dignitaries but he’s the cool prince I think. He picked up a ping-pong bat backstage and we went at it.

“I’m not sure what the etiquette is when you play a prince at table tennis, but hey I’m the king aren’t I? A king trumps a prince. I think the other guys thought, ‘Maybe you should let a real prince win.’

“But he is so tall and he’s got military training so I figured he can look after himself. It was a hard-fought battle but I took him in the end.”

Nathan – who formed the band with his brothers Caleb, Jared and their cousin Matthew Followill, - also said while the group would be honoured if they were asked to play for Harry’s brother Prince William’s wedding in April, they would prefer to wait for the younger royal to get married.

He told The Sun newspaper: “Man, we would jump at playing the royal wedding if we were asked. Wills and Kate look like nice people.

“But Harry is the dude. His is the wedding we would most likely play. He knows his music. He keeps it real on his iPod.”

Nicole Scherzinger says it was “inevitable” that she and her Pussycat Dolls bandmates would fight

The remaining original members of the group – Nicole, Ashley Roberts, Kimberly Wyatt, Jessica Sutta and Melody Thornton – have now gone their separate ways amid rumours of tension between the women, but the ‘Poison’ hitmaker insists they always handled their rows well.

She said:” It’s inevitable that any girl group who are breathing the same airspace 24/7 are going to bicker. But I think we handled it well and were respectful towards each other.”

Nicole – the last member to depart the group – admits she has no idea why so many of the girls left the band but says she respects their choices and is glad they took the opportunity to “find” themselves.

She said: “Girl power is about finding yourself as a woman. Obviously a lot of them then wanted to branch off and do their own thing and that’s wonderful.”

Although the Pussycat Dolls originally started off as a lap dancing group in Los Angeles, Nicole thinks her talent and that of her bandmates helped fans to forget their roots.

She said: “The group had existed before as a dance group. Then they hired myself and Melody to come and record. I was really proud of my part in making the music.

“We wouldn’t have been able to sell tens of millions of albums if we didn’t have talent.

“We stood for fun girl power.”

Ayda Field hopes she and her husband Robbie Williams don’t have ugly children

The American actress, who married the Take That singer in August, says the couple plan to start trying for a baby in the New Year but is paranoid about having “minging” – a British slang word for unattractive – kids.

She said: “I can’t wait to have kids. I hope they are not minging. But some people at my school had the ugliest parents, and they came out pretty.

“I hope ours gets all the best bits, but it’s pot luck who gets the minging ones. Hmmm, I’ll love them any way, I guess…”

The blonde beauty has also revealed the couple’s plans for Christmas.

Ayda, 31, and 36-year-old Robbie will be eating their turkey at their sun-drenched Los Angeles home.

She said: “I’m really looking forward to Christmas in Los Angeles.

But we’ll have a British roast, just with the sunshine. Then we’re coming back to Britain for four months.”

Nicole Scherzinger’s family hate her raunchy stage outfits

The Pussycat Dolls star – who grew up in a staunchly Catholic family – admitted her grandfather, who is a priest, and her mother are often shocked by her provocative clothes.

She said: “I still listen to my mom and my grandfather is a priest! They weren’t too excited when they saw the covers of magazines where my back was nude, and when I did the ‘Hush Hush’ video, my mother was like:, ‘Oh my goodness, I can’t believe you were at the bathtub, almost. so bare.’ “

However the ‘Poison’ singer says that despite her family’s conservative views when it comes to her stage outfits they are extremely supportive of her career and her grandfather even went to Pussycat Dolls concerts before the band went on hiatus.

She told Britain’s OK! magazine: “For the most part my family have been very supportive of me. They know where my heart lies and what my faith is and that I’m still grounded.

“They go to my shows. My grandfather in his priest outfit, had pictures taken with all of the Pussycat Dolls.”

Nicole Scherzinger isn’t ready for marriage

The ‘Poison’ singer doesn’t think the time is yet right for her and British Formula 1 driver Lewis Hamilton to tie the knot because they are perfectly “happy” as they are.

Asked if she would like to wed Lewis, she said: “Erm. No, I don’t. I mean, right now we’re just really happy where we are.”

The Pussycat Dolls star also revealed she doesn’t worry about Lewis when she watches him drive at incredibly high speeds in grand prix races.

She added in an interview with heat magazine: “I guess it’s hard for me to comment, because I couldn’t possibly imagine what it’s like for him. I don’t have anything to compare it to. I have my, you know, Mercedes, which I don’t go very fast in.

“But I’m extremely supportive of him and his career and very proud of him. I’m always going to be his number one fan.”

Although they are both very talented in their respective fields, the 32-year-old pop star has revealed he is a much better cook than her.

She said: “I tried to grill a steak once for my sister and it was horrible. It was burnt on one side and frozen on the inside.

“I definitely don’t think I could do what my boyfriend does, that’s for sure.”
