Usher doesn’t care about awards and just wants to be creative

The ‘OMG’ hitmaker has sold more than 65 million albums and has been nominated at numerous award ceremonies including the BRITS, MTV Video and Europe Music Awards, Billboard and the Grammys but says what spurs him on more than anything is motivating others.

He explained: “I tend to do things that are motivating for others and continue to be creative, open-minded and believe in my dreams. At this stage, doing something for the good of others is bigger than an award, bigger than a new album or new bling.”

However, while he loves making music, Usher’s favourite way of relaxing and getting new inspiration is going to art museums all over the world.

He told Britain’s HELLO! magazine:” I love to travel and see the world, taking in art museums. I really enjoyed the Louvre when I was there not so long ago. I just love to talk to people as much as I can, talking about what’s going on in their life and what they’re experiencing.”

Angelina Jolie took her son Maddox flying with her today (23.09.11)

The ‘Changeling’ actress treated her ten-year-old adopted child to a trip up in the air with her as she flew a small plane from Blackbushe Airport in Surrey, Southern England.

Dressed in a black jacket and aviator sunglasses Angelina certainly looked the part as she got into the cockpit with an instructor, while Maddox rode in the back seat.

The 36-year-old star has held her pilot’s licence since 2005 and regularly goes flying. Maddox looked happy as he got in the plane and took his iPad device with him, either as a distraction for if he got bored or to battle nerves. Angelina and her brood – which also includes Pax, seven, Zahara, six, Shiloh, five, and three-year-old twins Knox and Vivienne – are currently living in Britain while her partner, Brad

Pitt shoots new movie ‘World War Z’, although he flew back to the US this week to attend a premiere. In his absence, Angelina took the children for a day out to Legoland theme park in Windsor, near London earlier this week.

Although they admit raising a large family can be manic, Brad told this week how he and Angelina manage to get a little time for each other. He said: “We find our time. We carve out Mommy, Daddy time. It’s called a hotel. You got to get out of this house. You got to leave.”

Cheryl Cole’s British soldier wants to take her to dinner as soon as his tour of duty ends

Royal Marine Andy Baker – known as ‘Bagsy’ to his friends – met the Girls Aloud beauty when she travelled to Afghanistan on a morale boosting trip for troops earlier this month and after swapping phone numbers, Andy is now counting down the days until he leaves the country on October 1.

His brother-in-law Graham Peck is quoted by the Daily Mirror newspaper: “Andy would love to take Cheryl out for dinner when he’s back in the UK.

“He thought she was lovely, really gorgeous – I think all the guys did.

“Andy contacted me through Facebook, raving about Cheryl and even made a photo of them his profile picture. They met up a couple of times during her trip and hit it off.”

Cheryl, 28, and 25-year-old Andy first met at an awards bash and met up again later during an informal barracks dinner but the soldier panicked when he heard Cheryl was planning to call him because he has no mobile phone connection until he leaves the country.

Graham added: “Andy wants her to know that he’ll be in touch the moment he lands and wants her to wait for him.”

After her trip to Helmand province Cheryl revealed she was so taken with the military hunk she is planning to call him and “see what happens”.

She said: “Not only are the soldiers incredibly brave, a few of them were also incredibly cute.

“I actually came back with a phone number from one lad … although I think his talking to me was a dare. He started chatting to me after I’d been shot at during a training exercise.

“Obviously it wasn’t real ammunition but it was still terrifying. Anyway I think I am going to call him this week and we’ll see what happens. I’m sure he’s not expecting me to ring but that’s why it’ll be funny and that’s why I’m going to do it.”

Arnold Schwarzenegger’s son wants to follow in his footsteps and become a movie star

The bodybuilder turned ‘Terminator’ actor’s eldest son, Patrick, is already a male model, and hopes it will one day lead him to the big screen.

He told WWD: “I’ve wanted to do some sort of acting stuff down the line. But working as a model is a good way to get comfortable in front of the camera. [Agency] L.A. Models is setting up a lot of cool stuff for me now. Hopefully that will keep jumping.”

The 17-year old is already being noticed in Hollywood thanks to a huge image of him being used on a billboard on Sunset Boulevard advertising Hudson jeans, and Patrick says his mother, Maria Shriver, and father – who are currently divorcing – are very proud. He added: “They loved it. They support anything I do and I support anything they do. That’s how it is.”

Meanwhile, Arnold has announced plans to release his autobiography next year. The former Governor of California has reportedly been working on the memoirs for over a year and they may even include details of his recent break up with Maria, after she discovered he fathered a 13-year-old child with their housekeeper, Mildred Patty Baena. Maria and Arnold also have Katherine, 21, Christina, 19, and 13-year-old Christopher together.

Halle Berry has broken her foot while filming ‘Cloud Atlas’ in Spain

The actress was at the house where she is staying while making the sci-fi movie when she mis-stepped, causing her injury. Sources told website TMZ she was taken to hospital where he foot was put in a cast. She later left the medical facility in a wheelchair.

The film’s directors, Tom Tykwer, Andy Wachowski and Lana Wachowski, are overcoming the immediate problem of shooting Halle’s scenes – in which she plays one of few remaining survivors in a post apocalyptic world – by filming her from the waist up, using a stunt double, or simply shooting other scenes in which she is not required.

Speaking of the film, Tom has promised it will be of an epic proportion, saying: “The big-scale adult movie is a dying species. Where are the ‘2001s’ and the ‘Lawrence of Arabia’? “You go to all these studios, and you see their framed photographs, the films they’re so proud of, and you wonder: ‘Where are the pictures this year that they want blown up with a nice expensive frame around it?’”

Other A-list stars to appear in the big budget adaptation of the novel by David Mitchell include Tom Hanks, Hugh Grant, Jim Sturgess and Hugo Weaving. Halle is not the only star to have been hurt in an accident in recent weeks. ‘True Blood’ actress Evan Rachel Wood lost a tooth after being hit in the face by an erratic dancer at a Parisian nightclub, where she was celebrating her 24th birthday earlier this month.

‘Modern Family’ and ‘Downton Abbey’ were the big winners at the 63rd Primetime Emmy Awards last night (18.09.11)

The comedy series and the British period drama both took home four accolades from the prestigious ceremony at the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles, while ‘Mad Men’ and ‘Mildred Pierce’ were also awarded some of the top prizes.

‘Modern Family’ was named Best Comedy Series, with its stars Julie Bowen and Ty Burrell taking home the prizes for Best Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series and Best Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series respectively. Steven Levitan and Jeffrey Richman also won in the Writing, Comedy Series category.

Downton Abbey’s gongs included Best Miniseries and Best Supporting Actress in a Miniseries or Movie for Dame Maggie Smith.

The show’s writer Julian Fellowes was honoured for Outstanding Writing in a Miniseries, Movie or Dramatic special.

Accepting his statuette, Julian said: “When we were in the hotel a bit earlier, my wife said to me, ‘I think we should just relax and enjoy the evening, because I don’t think we’re going to win.’ Well, we’re going to enjoy the evening now!

“And at the risk of sounding grandiloquent, I would like to thank you, the American industry. Ten years ago you kick-started my second career with an Oscar, tonight you have nurtured it, I am very grateful, thank you.”

‘Mad Men’, an advertising drama set in the 1950s, was named Best Drama Series, while Kate Winslet and Guy Pearce both won for their roles in ‘Mildred Pierce’.

Kate – who was named Best Actress in a Miniseries or Movie – said of her prize: “It doesn’t matter how old you are or what you do in your life, you never stop needing your mum and I will never stop needing mine, so thanks mum, thank you so much.”

Other winners included Julianna Margulies, who was named Best Actress in a Drama Series for her role in ‘The Good Wife’, while ‘Friday Night Lights’ star Kyle Chandler won Best Actor in a Drama Series at the ceremony which was hosted by ‘Glee’ star Jane Lynch.

Simon Cowell reportedly split from fiancee Mezhgan Hussainy last month

The music mogul – who recently said he was “not sure” if he was still engaged to the make-up artist – is said to have called time on their relationship a few weeks ago although the break-up was amicable.

A source told The Mail on Sunday newspaper: “Simon and Mezhgan split up in August. He called it off and she wasn’t that surprised or even very bothered about it. Mezhgan told her friends she knew it had been coming for a while. She offered him the ring back but he has insisted she keep it.

“As with all his exes, he is being very generous, but he is already dating again and he has been on a dinner date or two with a mystery British brunette.”

Mezhgan – who put on a united front with Simon at the premiere of the US version of ‘The X Factor’ last week – is now living in Simon’s $5 million Beverly Hills home after moving out of the house they once shared.

The property is dubbed his “girlfriend graveyard” by friends because it is where his former lover Terri Seymour went after the pair separated in 2008.

Sources claim one of the reasons the couple – who got engaged last February after a whirlwind romance – split was because Mezhgan didn’t get on that well with Simon’s beloved mother Julie.

One said: “Simon knew it wasn’t going to end in marriage. There were commitment issues on his part and the added problem that Mezhgan didn’t get on all that well with Simon’s mother Julie.

“The pair would often argue about how Mezhgan spoke to him.”

The ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’ actor has nearly 1,000 hats and after his partner Vanessa Paradis ordered him to get rid of some, he decided to give a few to 20-month-old Louis to wear when he’s bigger.

A source told National Enquirer magazine: “Sandra thought it was the sweetest thing. She told Louis often cries if she doesn’t put a hat on his head and that’s why he’s rarely seen without one. Johnny promised to send more.”

Earlier this year, Vanessa ordered Johnny – who has previously been voted Hat Person of the Year – to get rid of his hats because they were starting to overtake their Paris home.

A source said: “He has hundreds of hats – two rooms in their Paris apartment packed with them.

“Vanessa wants some closet room but Johnny’s hats are taking up too much space. She told him point-blank, ‘Johnny, you get those hats out of here or when you’re gone, I’m going to throw them all in the trash.’

“He was horrified. He loves his hats and he is constantly buying more.”

Vanessa’s ultimatum came after her partner – with whom she has two children, Lily-Rose, 11, and eight-year-old Jack – came home with a hat he’d bought from a homeless person, but Hollywood star has now agreed to find somewhere else to store his headwear.

The 43-year-old actress is playing the evil queen in the forthcoming adaptation of the classic fairytale, and co-star Lily Collins – who plays the titular beauty – admits she is impressed by the “brilliant” performance she’s been giving.

She said: “Everyone loves that Julia smile and laugh and she maintains that, but in such this creepy eerie way that you don’t know if you love her or hate her. “She’s brilliant. She’s so nice, she’s classy, she’s just everything I had hoped she’d be.”

The 22-year-old actress has been working hard on the film – which is being released at around the same time as ‘Snow White and the Huntsman’ with Kristen Stewart – and reveals it is close to wrapping.

The 30-year-old socialite is famed for her curvy figure and Kris Jenner believes she is the reason for her daughter’s voluptuous shape, though she admits they also share the same body hang ups.

She said: “I think Kim does have my butt for sure.

“I won’t say what they are, but we have some of the same body issues, so it’s great to talk things through with her.”

Kris had a facelift in June and says she is not opposed to having more surgery in future, but wants to stay natural-looking.

Scarlett Johansson has reportedly called the FBI after alleged nude photos of her were stolen from her cell phone

One picture appears to show her holding a towel with her butt reflected in a mirror, while another reveals her to be topless lying on a bed both appeared on several websites on Wednesday (14.09.11), leading the FBI (Federal Bureau of Investigation) to be drafted in by ‘The Avengers’ star.

The 26-year-old actress’ publicist has so far refused to comment on the probe or reveal if the images – which also feature one showing a tattoo the screen beauty has been pictured displaying before – are genuine, but her representatives contacted the agency because they believe a criminal act has taken place, according to TMZ.com.

‘Friends with Benefits’ co-stars Mila Kunis and Justin Timberlake are also thought to be the victims of hackers after photos of the pair, including a shirtless snap of the ‘The Social Network’ actor, were leaked.

Laura Eimiller, of the FBI office in Los Angeles, explained: “The FBI is investigating the person or groups responsible for a series of computer intrusions involving high-profile figures.”

Eimiller did not name any of the alleged victims “due to the pending nature of our investigation”.

Earlier this year, a group of hackers were reported to have stolen nude photos from the phones of up to 50 celebrities, including Jessica Alba, Christina Aguilera, Miley Cyrus and Vanessa Hudgens.

Vanessa met with FBI agents in March to discuss hacking of her emails.

Gwyneth Paltrow admits she is “a little bit borderline” obsessive about germs

The 38-year-old actress stars in new epidemic thriller ‘Contagion’ as a woman who contracts a deadly disease, and she admits the storyline had a worsening effect on her fear of nasty microbes.

When asked if starring in the film gave her Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD) on UK TV show ‘Lorraine’, Gwyneth replied: “There was actually a New York Observer article – they sent a microbiologist out in New York City to swab surfaces, like a clean glass in a five star restaurant, the subway, handles, and it was so disturbing what they found, and since that article I’ve been a hand washer.

“So this movie didn’t make me any worse, but it was already a little bit borderline.”

The health conscious star – who runs the website Goop about healthy and ethical eating – has previously revealed she uses a handset which she plugs into her cell phone in order to minimise “radiation”.

Gwyneth – who raises two children, Apple, seven, and five-year-old Moses, with her husband, Coldplay singer Chris Martin – said: “A handset cuts down on cell phone radiation. I use the YUBZ Retro Handset for my BlackBerry calls.”

Rihanna has reportedly signed up to be a mentor on the US ‘X Factor’

The pop beauty is set to help judge L.A. Reid choose his final four acts after Simon Cowell was so impressed with the ‘Only Girl (In The World)’ hitmaker’s performance on the UK version of his talent show last year.

Mariah Carey will also be acting as a guest mentor on the series.

A source told The Sun newspaper: “Simon loves Rihanna and loved having her on the UK show last year – so it’s no surprise he wants her back.

“He hasn’t officially announced her yet as he loves keeping everyone guessing. But fans are already getting excited.”

The 23-year-old singer was rumoured to be in the running for a place on the judging panel, but she did not make the final line-up – which is comprised of L.A., Simon, Paula Abdul and Nicole Scherzinger.

The 51-year-old music mogul – who left the UK ‘X Factor’ last year to concentrate on his judging role on the new American show – recently branded a performance on the upcoming series “utterly s**t” during a short preview of competition, and he added: “I am hating this. It’s gotta go.”

Simon admitted he was close to walking off the set, but explained his boot camp rant was because of poor sound.

He said: “There were about 90 contestants and everything went wrong. It wasn’t their fault.

“It’s the meltdown of all meltdowns. I wasn’t afraid to say, ‘This is a shambles.’

‘Spartacus: Blood and Sand’ star Andy Whitfield has died

The 39-year-old star – who played the Thracian slave in the TV series – lost his battle with non-Hodgkin lymphoma disease at the age of 39, 18 months after being diagnosed with the cancer.

His wife Vashti issued a statement yesterday (11.09.11) explaining he died on a “sunny Sydney morning” in the “arms of his loving wife”.

The announcement said: “On a beautiful sunny Sydney spring morning, surrounded by his family, in the arms of his loving wife, our beautiful young warrior Andy Whitfield lost his 18 month battle with lymphoma cancer.

“He passed peacefully surrounded by love. Thank you to all his fans whose love and support have help carry him to this point. He will be remembered as the inspiring, courageous and gentle man, father and husband he was.”

Chris Albrecht, president and CEO of Andy’s TV network Starz, released a statement describing him as an “inspiration to us all” and praising him for his “courage, strength and grace” during his battle with cancer.

The statement said: “We were fortunate to have worked with Andy in ‘Spartacus’ and came to know that the man who played a champion on-screen was also a champion in his own life.

“Andy was an inspiration to all of us as he faced this very personal battle with courage, strength and grace.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with his family during this difficult time. He will live on in the hearts of his family, friends and fans.”

The Welsh actor was preparing to shoot the second series when he was diagnosed with cancer, and while waiting for his expected recovery the network produced prequel ‘Spartacus: Gods of the Arena’, which Andy had a voiceover role on.

In January, Starz announced Liam McIntyre would take Andy’s role on ‘Spartacus…’ after his condition started to worsen.

Kylie Minogue’s parents are among the few people who don’t pressure her about having children

The 43-year-old singer – who has been dating Spanish model Andres Velencoso for three years – is sick of people asking her when she plans on having kids but is grateful her parents aren’t trying to force her to become a mother.

She told YOU magazine: “I hate the question, ‘So when are you going to have children?’ But amazingly I have never heard it from my mum or dad. They never put pressure on any of us. For a while it looked liked it would never happen for us all and then boom, boom, boom.

“The only answer I have is, ‘If it happens for me –beautiful.’ I’ll have to wait and see. I love children and I love the thought of having a family. And Andres is really good with kids.”

While Kylie hasn’t ruled out having children in the future, for now she is content to dote on her nephews.

She said: “Don’t get me started talking about my nephew. My brother Brendan’s son Charlie is five now and his little brother James is two and Dannii’s boy Ethan is one. They all came to see my show in Melbourne and I could see them from the stage. I kept looking over to see if they were still there.”

Although Kylie calls herself a “serial monogamist”, she admitted she is reluctant to settle down and tie the knot.

She explained: “I don’t like to be boxed in. Maybe that feeling has affected my attitude to marriage. But it isn’t about fearing a commitment – I am committed. I’m a serial monogamist and I have never run off. It’s just that I need to be able to breathe.”

We live in a society that is obsessed with celebrities and it’s pretty easy to get famous very quickly now. I so I think there is an obsession with celebrity and people mistake getting to photograph somebody in their backyard, playing on the swings with their children, as actually some kind of intimacy. She told BANG Showbiz: ” Well I didn’t realise how deeply loved the character was when I signed on to play Emma. I wish I didn’t really know! It became even larger when people kept asking me, ‘So you’re playing Emma? Will you be doing this with the character? Will you be doing that?’ I’m like, ‘Oh my gosh, people know every word of this book!’

“I quickly realised I was going to disappoint a lot of people. People have their own idea about who these characters are and how they act and how they sound.”

However, the brunette beauty did struggle to deal with the criticism and weight of expectation.

She added: “I’m a book lover. I feel possessive of my beloved stories as well but I am also a movie lover. I know that there are things you can do on screen that you can’t do with a book. Often times, a book will be wonderful in a different way.

“Yes of course there was pressure, some days it got to me, yes there were days when I would liken it to walking between two dams with criticism on either side and you just hope, ‘Please don’t crumble today I really can’t take it.’ There are a lot of things to enjoy. I tried not to let it get to me.”

David Beckham cuts his own hair

The soccer ace has sported a number of daring hairstyles during his career, including a Mohawk, and a shaved head, but insists he doesn’t spend a great deal of money on his hairstyles, and always makes a spur of the moment decision on whether change his locks.

He told GQ magazine: “People try to read too much into it. Over the years they’ve said I’ve spent £2,000 on a hairstyle, which I’ve never done. Either a friend has cut it or I do it myself.

“Sometimes, I wake up and I’m bored of it, I want to shave it off. It literally is a spur of the moment decision. And I don’t think of anything apart from whether I am happy with it.”

The 36-year-old hunk – who is married to fashion designer Victoria Beckham, with whom he has four children – is currently happy with a quiffed hairstyle, and although he could change it any moment, he insists there are certain styles he will not revisit.

He added: “I’m getting older so I can’t pull off the Mohawk or the ponytail anymore. The way I’ve got it at the moment, my wife likes it, my kids like it, so I’m happy with it. But that could all change in the morning.”

The ‘Chloe’ actress – who recently split from Ryan Phillippe after five months together – was spotted enjoying the tennis at the US Open with the hunk earlier this week, and the pair have been putting on their fair share of public displays of affection (PDA).

An onlooker told E! News: “They were being cute together. It was clear something was going on. There was subtle PDA.”

However, it’s unlikely the new couple are being open with their feelings, as Amanda – who dated her ‘Mamma Mia!’ co-star Dominic Cooper for three years – recently admitted she likes to keep men guessing, and thinks “mystery is really sexy”.

She said: “I don’t think men find me irresistible at all. I’ve got a filthy side and a romantic side – I like to keep them guessing.”

“Mystery is really sexy. Bad guys also tend to be really self-centered and very fearless – I don’t know why but that is sexy. It shouldn’t be, it’s disgusting.”

Taylor Lautner loves his “goofy” ‘Abduction’ co-star Lily Collins

The 19-year-old actor – who has been romantically linked to the 22-year-old actress, the daughter of musician Phil Collins – gets on really well with Lily and really enjoyed her openness and honesty on set.

He said: “The amazing thing about Lily is that she was super-open and funny and goofy to begin with. And she definitely did not change at all from the first time I met her. That’s probably the most impressive thing about her – that she’s not afraid to be herself.”

The ‘Twilight’ hunk – who has previously dated singer Taylor Swift and Justin Bieber’s current girlfriend Selena Gomez – also admits it is a “good thing” his female friends do not ask him for advice about men because his guidance would be “confusing”. He told Seventeen magazine: “I would totally be there for a girlfriend, to give her a guy’s perspective [on relationships], which I’m sure would be completely different from a girl’s perspective.

Taylor Lautner would be “crushed” if a woman turned him down

The 19-year-old actor – who portrays werewolf heartthrob Jacob Black in the ‘Twilight’ franchise – explained his alter-ego is rejected by his love interest Bella Swan, portrayed by Kristen Stewart, in the latest movie ‘Breaking Dawn’, which is something he would find difficult to cope with.

He told Seventeen magazine: “I can relate to Jacob’s feelings in ‘Breaking Dawn’. When he gets the invitation to the wedding, he doesn’t handle it very well.

“I don’t think I would either. If I were in love with a girl and she told me she was marrying somebody else, would crush me. That’s what it does. It destroys Jacob.”

Taylor – who has previously dated the likes of Selena Gomez and Taylor Swift in the past – recently admitted he would be happy to romance a fan, as he is looking for a girlfriend who will just “be herself”.

He said: “Would I date a fan? Well I don’t exclude anyone, so sure, why not?

“I don’t have a type physically, but loyalty and honesty are important, and also someone who can also just be herself and just let loose and have fun.”
