Fergie admits her drug addiction could lead to both “brilliance and disaster”

The Black Eyed Peas singer successfully fought a battle against a dependency on illicit substance crystal methamphetamine – known as crystal meth – and thinks the days of her excesses had both good and bad points.

She said: “I think that sometimes it leads to brilliance and other times it leads to disaster. That’s my answer.”

Fergie’s bandmate Taboo has also previously battled an addiction to drugs and alcohol and admits his lifestyle in the band made it difficult to give up his deadly habits.

He said: “The excess of partying for me was out of control and it just let me to a place where I crashed really hard. It wasn’t just about me, I was damaging my family and almost my career.

“The thing is, when you do have that addictive personality and you have success and fame, it’s there every night. And you partake. And you get caught up, ‘Oh, I’ll stop tomorrow.’ I’d look at myself in the mirror and say, ‘I’m going to stop,’ and next day go to the drug dealer. But I bounced back.”

Amy Winehouse was reportedly in the process of adopting a 10-year-old girl when she died

The troubled singer – who was found dead at her north London home last weekend aged 27 – had planned to take on the care of Dannika Augustine, after striking a strong bond with the poverty-stricken girl and her family during her lengthy stays on the Caribbean island of St. Lucia.

Dannika said: “Amy was already my mother. I would call her mum and she would call me her ­daughter. She took care of me and we had fun together. I loved her and she loved me.

“She was the most amazing person and I was looking forward to living with her here or in London. I cannot believe she is gone. This is the worst thing that ever happened to me.”

Her grandmother Majorie Lambert, who runs a beach bar close to the villa where Amy liked to stay, added: to the Sunday Mirror newspaper “Amy loved Dannika with all her heart. I don’t know why Amy took to Dannika above all the other children on the island, but from the moment they met they were ­inseparable. They would spend all day playing, horse-riding and walking up and down the beach hand-in-hand.

“Amy used to beg me, ‘I want to adopt Dannika. I want to take her to England.’ She was prepared to move to St Lucia to be her full-time mum.

“Amy wanted to have a child so bad. If she had not died, there is no doubt she would be here in St Lucia ­completing the adoption process. There is no way she would have done what she did to herself if Dannika was with her.”

Marjorie says Dannika’s mother Nadia Germaine was willing to have the youngster adopted because she couldn’t afford to bring her daughter up alone, while the girl’s father Vic Augustine, who lives in Germany, was consulted about the proposal.

Vic said: “Amy called me from my mother’s mobile phone. She said, ‘Hello, Marjorie’s lovely son. I wanted to talk to you because I feel like you are my brother. Marjorie has become like a mother to me.’ Then she said, ‘I love Dannika so much. She is the most amazing girl.’

“I thanked Amy for taking care of my daughter, and she said, ‘Dannika is taking care of me. I couldn’t live ­without her.’ Then she said, ‘I would like your permission to adopt Dannika.’

“I said if my mum thought it was a good idea, then it was OK with me. I also spoke to Dannika’s mother and she said she would agree to it.”

Marjorie last spoke to Amy weeks ago when she was making arrangements for a planned visit to St. Lucia next week and says the ‘Back to Black’ star sounded “weak and down.”

She said: “Amy sounded weak and down. She asked how I was and said, ‘Tell everybody I will be back in St Lucia soon.’

“I was expecting her here next week. I couldn’t believe it when my friend in London told me she had died.

“Amy was such a good person. She wanted to help everyone. I know she had her problems, but in St Lucia she was a much better person than people knew in the UK. She was drug-free and normal here. I never worried about Dannika being with Amy.”

The hip-hop superstar became pals with the Hollywood A-listers in 2008 after he appeared with them in movie ‘Righteous Kill’ and enjoys meeting up with them because the attention is taken away from him.

He said: “It’s interesting being around them because when you are around someone that has that much attention focused on them, I get the chance to be a regular guy on the side, so it’s kind of cool to hang out them.”

Earlier this week, 50 was forced to pull the release of his new album.

The ‘In Da Club’ hitmaker claims problems with his record company, Interscope, have prevented him from being able to release the album – which had the working title ‘Black Magic’ – and vowed not to work with them again.

Queen Elizabeth’s eldest granddaughter tied the knot with the England rugby player at Canongate Kirk in Edinburgh, Scotland, in a private ceremony this afternoon (30.07.11).

The 30-year-old blonde – daughter of Princess Anne and her ex-husband Mark Phillips – looked stunning in a beautiful ivory gown by Stewart Parvin as she arrived at the venue with her father.

Following the service, Zara and Mike – who have been dating for around seven years – posed for photographers outside the church, kissing to the cheers from the excited well-wishers, who had lined the streets in order to catch a glimpse of them.

Guests at the wedding included the queen and Prince Philip, Prince Charles and the Duchess of Cornwall, Prince Harry and fellow royal newlyweds, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, who married in April.

Singer Una Healey, TV presenter Kirsty Gallacher and actress Katherine Kelly were also in attendance.

David Beckham wants one more child

The soccer star – who has sons Brooklyn, 12, Romeo, eight and Cruz, six as well as two-week old daughter Harper Seven with wife Victoria – reveals he would be keen to have one final child to complete their family, but has no concrete plans yet.

Lady Gaga is to be the focus of a new “intimate” pictorial book

Described as a “visual dialogue” between the pop star and acclaimed photographer Terry Richardson – who has taken over 100,000 pictures of the ‘Poker Face’ hitmaker – ‘Lady Gaga’ will be released on November 22 and features an introduction written by the eccentric singer herself.

Announcing the book, Grand Central Publishing said: “The book will showcase over 350 colour and black and white photographs taken during the 10 month period in which Richardson followed Lady Gaga and had complete access to her everyday life, with nothing being off limits.

“Beginning with Lollapalooza in August 2010 to the February 2011 Grammy Awards which had 26.66 million viewers, (the highest viewership in over a decade) to the final shows of her ‘Monster Ball’ tour which averaged an attendance of 90,000 people each day, Richardson brilliantly captures the intimate, random, behind-the-scenes moments of Lady Gaga in both her professional and personal life.”

Meanwhile, Gaga has spoken of how an intimate moment watching her grandmother as her grandfather lay dying inspired her hit ‘Edge of Glory’.

She said: “I remember feeling so sad, but they both sort of acknowledged that they won at life because they won at love with each other.”

After her grandfather died, Gaga joined her father in drinking shots of tequila and began to write the song.

Robert Pattinson was asked to “bite” a fan’s baby

The British actor – who is best known for playing vampire Edward Cullen in the ‘Twilight Saga’ film series – was left perplexed during filming on the first movie when a female supporter handed over her three-month-old child to meet the cast.

He recalled: “My favourite moment from the whole thing was when we doing the first one and there were people waiting by the perimeter fence and this woman handed over her three-month-old baby to the AD [assistant director] to meet us.

“The AD didn’t know what to do with it, so he was like, ‘I think she wants you to sign the baby or something?’ and then we realised she wanted pictures with the baby.

“I didn’t understand the reality of the thing at the time, that people would see the pictures, so there’s a picture of me on the internet somewhere biting this baby.”

Despite his revelation, Robert – who is dating his ‘Twilight Saga’ co-star Kristen Stewart – insists he didn’t make physical contact with the infant and only pretended to bite when posing for the picture.

He added: “I didn’t actually, like, touch it. It’s a funny picture. The baby was so small its entire head fit in my mouth.”

Lindsay Lohan has settled an unpaid bill for stereo equipment

Earlier this week, it was reported Stephen Clark had taken legal action against the troubled actress alleging she had failed to pay for a sound system and its instillation into her Californian home, but he has now cancelled the lawsuit after she handed over the cash for his work.

Stephen – who had sued for $1,180 – told gossip website TMZ: “She paid and I cancelled the small claims file.

“Lindsay is actually really nice and I think my invoice got mixed up or something … It’s all good now!”

The case was the latest in a string of problems for Lindsay, who had the equipment installed while she was under house arrest.

The ‘Mean Girls’ actress was freed on 29th June after serving 35 days of house arrest for the theft of a necklace from an upmarket boutique and for violating the terms of probation set for her 2007 conviction for driving under the influence (DUI).

Last week, Lindsay – who has also started 480 hours of community service at the Los Angeles Downtown Women’s centre as part of her sentence – appeared in court for a progress hearing, where she was ordered to find an individual therapist.

However, during the hearing, the 25-year-old actress’ lawyer insisted she hadn’t been able to have the mandatory psychological treatment due to “financial issues”.

David Beckham finds it “hard” being away from his family

The soccer star has returned to work and travelled to New Jersey earlier this week for a MLS All Stars game against his old team Manchester United yesterday (27.07.11), where he admitted he was counting the hours until he could be reunited with his wife Victoria, their two-week-old daughter Harper Seven and sons Brooklyn, 12, Romeo, eight, and six-year-old Cruz.

He said: “We have been so lucky with her, and it was hard leaving them all the other day.

David – who described his daughter as “absolutely fabulous” – is thrilled with how well his sons have coped with the new addition to their household and is hopeful they will show her the same affection in years to come.

The ‘Love Story’ hitmaker is to be presented with the Ultimate Choice Award in recognition of her “extraordinary contributions to the entertainment industry” at the ceremony on August 7.

It has already been announced that Taylor is in the running to win six other awards, Red Carpet Hot Icon – Female, Choice Music: Female Artist, Choice Music: Female Country Artist, Choice Music: Love Song, for her single ‘Mine’, Choice Music: Break-up Song for ‘Back to December’ and Choice Music: Country Song for ‘Mean’.

Previous winners of the coveted Ultimate Choice accolade have included Reese Witherspoon, Sarah Michelle Gellar and Justin Timberlake.

Meanwhile, it has been announced that ‘Twilight Saga’ heartthrob Robert Pattinson, talk show host Ellen DeGeneres, and Disney star Demi Lovato have been added to the line-up of famous faces who will make an appearance at the ceremony, which takes place at the Gibson Amphitheatre in Los Angeles.

Amy Winehouse’s father insists she was the “happiest she’d been in years” before her death

Mitch Winehouse paid tribute to his daughter – who was found dead at home on Saturday (23.07.11) aged 27 – insisting she had overcome her drug dependency and was determined to give up alcohol for the sake of her family and boyfriend Reg Traviss.

In a statement released following Amy’s funeral today (26.07.11), he said: “Amy was the greatest daughter, family member and friend you could ever have.

“I will talk a lot about her fantastic recovery. Recently Amy found love with Reg. He helped her with her problems and Amy was looking forward to their future together. She was the happiest she has been for years.

Three years ago, Amy conquered her drug dependency, the doctors said it was impossible but she really did it. She was trying hard to deal with her drinking and had just completed three weeks of abstinence

“She said, ‘Dad I’ve had enough, I can’t stand the look on your and the family’s faces anymore.’ ”

Mitch also revealed he and Amy’s friends and family have taken comfort from the fact she was “happy” when she passed away, insisting she had been in good spirits the last time anyone saw her.

He added: “She was not depressed. She saw [her mother] Janis and Reg on Friday and was in good spirits.

“That night, she was in her room, playing drums and singing. As it was late, her security guard said to keep it quiet and she did.

“He heard her walking around for a while and when he went to check on her in the morning he thought she was asleep. He went back a few hours later, that was when he realised she was not breathing and called for help.

“But knowing she wasn’t depressed, knowing she passed away, knowing she passed away happy, it makes us all feel better.”

The 60-year-old former taxi driver also spoke of his plans to set up a charity in his daughter’s name to help others struggling with addiction and causes close to her heart.

Recalling hearing the news of Amy’s death en route to New York to perform a series of concerts, he said: :”I was with my cousin Michael when I heard and straight away I said I wanted an Amy Winehouse Foundation, something to help the things she loved – children, horses, but also to help those struggling with substance abuse.

“In this country, if you cannot afford a private rehabilitation clinic, there is a two year waiting list for help. With the help of Keith Vaz MP, we are trying to change that.”

Amy Winehouse’s ashes will be mixed with her beloved grandmother’s

The ‘Back to Black’ singer is due to be cremated today (26.07.11) in accordance with Jewish custom, and her family will fulfil her wish that her ashes are put with those of her grandmother, Cynthia, who died in 2006 from lung cancer.

The funeral – which was given permission to take place after the inquest into her death was opened and immediately adjourned at London’s St Pancras Coroner’s Court yesterday (25.07.11) following her passing on Saturday (23.07.11) – is thought to be taking place at Golders Green Crematorium in north London at 3pm.

A family friend said: “We all hope Amy can finally find some peace.”

After visiting Amy’s home to see tributes left by fans yesterday, her father Mitch, and mother, Janis – who split when she was nine – discussed the funeral options.

Amy idolised her grandmother, a jazz singer who dated saxophone player Ronnie Scott, and the tattoo of a woman in a red shirt on the top of her right arm was said to depict her. She also had her name tattooed on the same arm.

Meanwhile, Amy’s ex-husband Blake Fielder-Civil will not be attending the funeral, after he was not granted compassionate leave from Armley Jail in Yorkshire, Northern England, where he is serving a 32-month sentence on charges of burglary and firearms offences.

Mitch has also said to have warned Blake to stay away from the service and from him and the rest of the family.

A source told The Sun newspaper: “Mitch thinks it would be a complete insult for him to be there and if he really loved Amy, he wouldn’t cause anymore heartache by showing up.

“There is no way back for him with Blake. He absolutely hates his guts.

“He will always believe Blake is responsible for getting his daughter hooked on Class A drugs which marked the beginning of her self-destruction.”

Amy Winehouse’s boyfriend Reg Traviss has been going through “hell” since her death on Saturday (23.07.11)

The director – who joined the late singer’s parents Mitch and Janis and brother Alex outside her house in Camden, north London, yesterday (24.07.11) to visit shrines created by fans – admits he has lost his “darling” who he has described as a “beautiful” person.

He said: “The last three days have been hell. We have suffered a terrible untimely loss and want peace.

“I can’t describe what I am going through and I want to thank so much all of the people who have paid their respects and who are mourning the loss of Amy, such a beautiful, brilliant person and my dear love.

“I have lost my darling who I loved very much.”

The 35-year-old filmmaker added the ‘Rehab’ hitmaker, who he had been dating on and off for two years, had been making improvements to her alcohol and drug-fuelled lifestyle and had started exercising regularly before her shock passing at the age of just 27 at the weekend.

He is convinced her death is a tragic “accident” as she was planning to go to a wedding on Sunday (24.07.11).

He added in an interview with The Sun newspaper: “She has been so full of life and so upbeat recently, exercising everyday and doing yoga. This terrible thing that happened is like an accident.”

Discussing the wedding, he added: “Amy kept trying to decide what to wear. She had laid out dresses to make up her mind, she was really looking forward to it.”

Amy’s funeral is set to take place today (26.07.11) with only close friends and family invited.

The NFL player popped the question to the former ‘Hills’ star on a romantic trip to Cabo, Mexico, in April an although the couple were busily preparing for a spring wedding next year, friends have revealed Jay “dumped” his fiancee.

A source said: “She got dumped. She’s absolutely devastated. She can’t believe this is happening.

“She was planning her dream wedding, the date was set, the location – everything was set. She’s in shock that the dream wedding she was planning is going to end this way.”

The shock break-up comes just a week after they held a party to celebrate their upcoming nuptials with Krisitin tweeting: “Thx to all my amazing friends for making my engagement party a blast last night! (sic)”

Kristin has previously dated ‘Laguna Beach’ co-star Stephen Colletti and Brody Jenner, who she starred with in ‘The Hills’.
