Mel Gibson is set to begin his court ordered community service at a kid’s charity in L.A. soon — and he’s already getting support from some of the parents … TMZ has learned.

In fact, one set of parents associated with Mending Kids International tells us they’re more than happy to help give the actor a “brand new start” because Mel has helped fund a life-changing series of operations for their foster son over the past couple of years.

James Nicol tells us his Ethiopian-born son Berhanu was only able to undergo an expensive series of medical procedures to help fix severe spinal issues … thanks, in part, to Mel’s generosity.

Nicol says his family is still active with the organization … and they’re excited for any assistance Mel can provide … despite the fact his community service is the result of a plea deal in a domestic violence case.

James says he completely trusts the actor around his child … saying, “If Mel was coming over to our house to play ball with my son, I would not be the least bit concerned.”

UFC Star Takes Down Robber Before Fight

John “Bones” Jones — who has a huge UFC fight tonight in New Jersey with Shogun Rua — just subdued a robber with an awesome fighting move — TMZ has learned.

Jones was doing what has become his ritual before a fight … he was meditating at a park in Patterson, NJ when he heard a woman scream, “I’ve been robbed!”

Jones began chasing the man for a good distance. hen the fighter caught up with the alleged robber, he knocked the guy’s legs out from under him, then placed him in a figure-four leg lock until Patterson cops arrived.

Jones’ fight tonight — UFC 128 — is in Newark.

So far today, he’s on a winning streak.

PETA — Knut’s Death Could Have Been Avoided

The tragic passing of Knut, everyone’s favorite German polar bear, could have been prevented … maybe … this according to PETA.

Knut passed away in his habitat this morning of still-to-be determined causes at the age of 4. A rep for PETA tells TMZ they contacted to Berlin Zoo months ago to alert them to the fact that Knut was being “terrorized” by three female polar bears — including his own mother!

The rep tells us, “PETA Germany repeatedly asked zoo authorities to move Knut away from the three females to a different location. His premature death could possibly have been avoided. Polar bears don’t belong in captivity.”

A necropsy is planned for Monday to determine the cause of death.

Natalie Portman thinks she should have checked into rehab after filming ‘Black Swan’

The 29-year-old star won a Best Actress Oscar for her portrayal as a disturbed ballerina in the movie, but admits it was such a challenging role, both physically and mentally, she should have taken some proper time out to recover afterwards instead of starting work on ‘Thor’.

She said: “I loved Darren Aronofsky and working with him was a deeply fulfilling experience but I just showed up for ‘Thor’ spent.

“I probably should have gone into rehab.”

Natalie – who is currently expecting her first child with fiance Benjamin Millepied – was thrilled to work with director Kenneth Branagh on ‘Thor’ because she has always been of his work.

She added in an interview with Total Film magazine: “I must have watched ‘Much Ado About Nothing’ about 500 times, I love that film so much.

“He was one of the first people I’ve met that I was excited about when I met them. When I worked with him, it exceeded my expectations.”

Mel B would “love” another Spice Girls reunion

The 35-year-old star hasn’t discussed with her former bandmates – Victoria Beckham, Geri Halliwell, Emma Bunton and Mel C – the possibility of taking to the stage again but thinks they should get back together to make new music.

She said: “I’d love to get back with the Spice Girls.

“I’ve always championed more Spice Girls concerts, DVDs and music. But we haven’t had that conversation as a group yet and I can’t speak on everyone’s behalf.”

In the meantime, Mel is focused on bringing the Spice Girls musical, ‘Viva Forever’, to the stage, but is remaining tight-lipped about the exact nature of the show.

She added: “Right now, we’re all talking about the musical ‘Viva Forever’, which is coming out next year. I’m not allowed to say anything about it yet though.”

The Spice Girls first split in 1998 following the departure of Geri. They reunited as a five-piece in 2007 but their world tour came to a sudden end the following year, with many proposed shows scrapped.

TMZ has obtained a non-disclosure agreement (NDA) that dancers were required to sign before working on her latest music video. It specifically states, “Contractor acknowledges that it is essential that [Britney] not be exposed to any alcohol, drugs, or controlled substances.”

The NDA even goes on to say that the dancers can be subjected to drug testing at any time and can be fired for failing a test or even refusing to take one.

Long Lost Whoopi Letter: Dear Charlie, Quit the Coke

Months after Charlie Sheen OD’d on coke back in 1998, Whoopi Goldberg sent him a note containing heartfelt words of support … and a REALLY bad joke — and TMZ has obtained the original letter.

The letter is postmarked February 1999 — less than a year after Charlie famously overdosed by injecting himself with cocaine — and it references the actor’s post-rehab “20/20″ interview, in which Charlie claimed to be off the drug.

Whoopi — who has publicly discussed her own battle with substance abuse — writes, “Saw your interview on ‘20/20.’ I’m so glad your path is clearer. Having lived on that path for many years, it’s good to know that you’ve gone in another direction.”

And now for the bad joke — Whoopi continues, “I’m keeping my fingers, eyes and butt (because it’s big enough now) crossed for your success.”

Unfortunately, it seems Whoopi’s words fell upon deaf ears.

Katy Perry is used to having men stare at her — but when a guy camped outside her home for two hours and just stood there, staring at the house … her security team called the coppers.

Law enforcement sources tell TMZ Perry’s security team spotted the guy lurking outside her Los Feliz home Wednesday night. We’re told the guy was there for about two hours when the team finally said enough is enough … and called the LAPD.

According to law enforcement sources, officers showed up on scene and gave the guy a talking to … then sent him on his way.

As for Katy — she wasn’t even home.

The ‘Twilight’ actress – who recently spilt up with Joe Jonas – was seen celebrating St Patrick’s Day (17.03.11) with the 24-year-old Kings of Leon bassist and was reportedly “flirting” with him earlier in the week when the pair went clubbing together.

An onlooker who saw the couple at Avenue nightclub in New York on Monday night (14.03.11) told People magazine: “Ashley was smiling all night. She and Jared were close the whole night. Dancing, talking, flirting.

“It was pretty clear they were into each other.”

Another source added that they partied into the small hours of the next day and didn’t leave the club until 4am.

They were then spotted again last night (17.03.11) where they celebrated the traditional Irish holiday together at Phebe’s Tavern & Grill in New York.

The 24-year-old actress later tweeted: “Good food. Good friends. Great day.”

A spokesperson confirmed yesterday that the brunette beauty had split from singer Joe after around nine months of dating.

They said in a statement: “We can confirm they have parted ways and have no further comment.”

A source close to Ashley said the relationship broke down due to work commitments and hinted the couple never intended to stay together long-term.

They told E! Online: “They were apart a lot working. It was never that serious.

“Don’t be too upset they have broken up – [Ashley and Joe] are not at all.”

Billy Ray filed the docs in Williamson County, Tennessee, stating, “The parties are attempting a reconciliation.”

Billy Ray has been saying Miley Cyrus’ fame compromised their family.

Billy Ray and Tish have been seen out together over the last few weeks.

The petition to withdraw the divorce was filed March 11 … and the judge signed the order withdrawing the divorce papers.

Orlando Bloom is spending as much time with his son as possible

The 34-year-old actor recently welcomed his and his wife Miranda Kerr’s first child Flynn into the world and he insists he is a very hands-on dad and is loving every minute of fatherhood.

During an appearance on British breakfast TV show ‘Lorraine’, he said: “It’s great, I love it … I’ve been bathing with him a lot recently, it’s been really cute. It’s a really nice little moment.”

Orlando admits it was a shock when he finally got to meet his son in January and he thinks women are more prepared for the birth because the baby grows inside them.

He added: “It’s mad because as a woman you carry the baby for nine months so you’re very conscious that you have a little one inside you. “But for a guy it’s like suddenly there’s a baby there. It’s like what, whoa? But he’s amazing. Fatherhood’s fantastic, that’s the big role.”

The British star has just completed new movie ‘The Three Musketeers’ and he insists he is attracted to roles that frighten and challenge him.

Orlando – who is best known for his role as the heroic Will Turner in the first three ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’ films, in which he started alongside Johnny Depp and Keira Knightley – said: “It’s really if the script is good and the character is good and the people involved are interesting. Anything that terrifies me I’m really up for.

“I just finished ‘The Three Musketeers’. That was great, it was a lot of fun. I got to play the Duke of Buckingham and it was so much fun. I sort of saw him as a big, overgrown petulant child.”

Daniel Radcliffe accepts he will never again achieve the career success he has had with ‘Harry Potter’

The British actor is getting ready for the release of the final movie in the franchise ‘Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2’ and while Daniel hopes to continue working as an actor, he is under no illusions that he can match the popularity of the boy wizard series.

During an appearance on TV show ‘Live! With Regis & Kelly’, he explained: “My aim is hopefully just continuing to work as much as I can. Obviously I’ll never be in anything with the commercially success that ‘Harry Potter’ has but then again neither will anyone else.

Daniel is currently living in New York and will take on the lead role in musical ‘How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying’ on Broadway from March 27.

He initially had reservations about singing in the production but he has now come to adore his musical numbers.

He said: “I love singing, I started having lessons when I was in the play ‘Equus’ because I had to sing the Milky Bar theme tune and I was getting it wrong.

“I love my singing teacher, he’s a fantastic guy so the singing was just something I’ve put a lot of work into.”

Although he loves to sing, Daniel is not so keen on dancing and admitted being surrounded by professionals is not helping his confidence.

He said: “I had no aptitude for dancing, there was a lot of hard work with my fantastic dance teacher. When you’re surrounded by the most talented seasoned Broadway dancers it makes it even more difficult.”

We’ve already told you the ring also stole pics and video from Vanessa Hudgens, Scarlett Johansson, Ali Larter, Busy Philipps, Miley Cyrus, Emma Caulfield, Addison Timlin and Renee Olstead.

In all, the FBI believes the ring has targeted 50 celebs — all female.

Lindsay Lohan got back into the New York club scene last night — hitting at least two different bars — but we’re told she wasn’t served one drop of alcohol.

Sources at the super high-end 1-Oak nightclub tell us LiLo was definitely inside the joint … but didn’t order a single drink … and was not seen sipping on anything alcoholic.

Lohan was also spotted at the Simyone Lounge — but Lindsay tells us, “I did not drink … period. I do not drink … period.”

TMZ now has a partial list of the celebs who had compromising pictures and video stolen from their computers and mobile devices by a group of hackers.

The list includes Ali Larter, Miley Cyrus, Vanessa Hudgens, Scarlett Johansson, Busy Phillips, Emma Caulfield, Addison Timlin and Renee Olstead.

TMZ broke the story … the FBI sat down with Vanessa Hudgens Wednesday for more than an hour to determine how her Gmail account got hacked.

We’re told 50 celebs had compromising photos and videos stolen by one group, and one of the ringleaders has his fingerprints on every job.

Our sources say the hackers’ primary motivation is the thrill and challenge of it all — not the money.

Law enforcement sources tell us the FBI is closing in on the hackers.

Law enforcement sources confirm with TMZ … it was none other than the FBI that met with Vanessa Hudgens yesterday about the nude photos that were hacked from her Gmail account.

The FBI went to Vanessa’s lawyer’s office to meet with her in Century City, CA. The meeting lasted more than an hour and agents got info that we’re told leads to one individual who may have hacked 50 A-list celebs.

We’re told Scarlett Johansson was hacked by the same individual, who leads a ring of hackers.

Kim Kardashian can’t get rid of her cellulite no matter how hard she works out

The socialite is famed for her curvaceous figure and although she is generally happy with her body she admits she can’t alter her “jiggly” thighs.

She said: “When I’m in Los Angeles, I exercise every day. And I’ll say it. I think my thighs are jiggly and I have cellulite.”

And Kim isn’t prepared to cut fattening foods out of her diet in order to win her battle with her cellulite.

In an interview with Self magazine, she added: “Of course I struggle with insecure moments. I wish I didn’t. But I love to eat! Especially sweets … But on days when I need extra motivation, I just think, ‘Bikini, bikini, bikini!’ ”

Instead, the 30-year-old beauty has learnt to embrace her figure – which she previously unveiled in the pages of Playboy magazine – and makes fashion choices that work for her shape.

She said: “After working out, I see a difference in my butt and thighs and my clothes fit a little differently, too. I’m also really proud of how toned my arms are.

“Of course, I’m a perfectionist, so there’s always room for improvement. But I think it’s important to find the one part of your body that you love and accentuate it. For example, because I have a small waist, a big butt and thin legs, belts work for me.”

The couple, who were together for around nine months, have called time on their relationship after their busy work schedules kept them apart.

Despite the break-up the former couple remain friends.

A source told the New York Post newspaper: “It was mutual and amicable.”

The Jonas Brothers star and the ‘Twilight Saga’ actress started dating last summer.

The 21-year-old singer-and-actor only recently praised the 24-year-old actress for putting his “feelings first” and claimed he was very happy in their relationship.
