Miley Cyrus has won an inspirational award

The 18-year-old actress-and-singer – who has been named as the worst celebrity influence for the past two consecutive years – was presented with the first-ever Global Action Youth Leadership Award for the positive impact she has on young people’s attitudes at a gala in Los Angeles on Friday (18.02.11) by her idol Hilary Duff.

Accepting the accolade, she said: “I got to tell you that I never thought I would get an award from Hilary Duff. This is like a dream come true to me. She inspired me.

“I want kids to do something they love. Not something that seems like a chore because someone tells them that’s the right thing to do or what their parents want or what’s important to people around them, but what’s in their heart.”

The ‘Hannah Montana‘ star recently admitted while she is happy to be seen as a role model for younger girls, she doesn’t want her fans to idolise her.

Miley explained: “If you look at me as a role model I agree with it. If you look at me as an idol, I don’t agree. An idol for me is someone that you want to replicate. You want to be them.

“I don’t wish that on anyone, to lose what they have personally, because that’s when your spark goes.”

Kourtney Kardashian wants her breast implants removed

The 31-year-old socialite had her bust enhanced when she was in college, but admits she regrets having had the procedure because she now doesn’t think it was necessary.

She said: “I had my boobs done but if I could go back, I wouldn’t have done it I was so cute before.

“I’ve realised that I was made to look a certain way and I’m considering removing them.”

While Kourtney – who has 14-month-old son Mason with boyfriend Scott Disick – is considering removing her implants, she won’t make a final decision until she stops breast feeding.

She explained: “I’m breast feeding Mason right now but once I’ve finished, I’m going to see what they look like and decide then.”

The reality TV star also admitted her eating habits having changed since she feel pregnant with Mason.

She said: “I used to diet when I was younger. I watched what I ate a lot more and only had two meals a day.

“Then I got pregnant and it became more about being healthy, so I started eating breakfast in the morning. Now I have five small meals a day.”

Paris Hilton and Cy Waits went shopping for an engagement ring in New York City on Friday (18.02.11)

The loved-up couple were spotted in jewellers Jacob & Co. looking at several different sparklers, including a rare 30-carat blue diamond.

Despite inspecting the betrothal bands, the pair don’t have any happy news to announce just yet, but Paris did leave the store with a $25,000 black diamond-encrusted ring for her 30th birthday – which was on Thursday (17.02.11).

However, the hotel heiress insists it won’t be long until she and Las Vegas club owner Cy do commit to one another.

She told the New York Post newspaper: “We’ve talked about it (getting engaged). This is once in a lifetime. I want to be with him forever. And Cy has great taste. He just bought me a beautiful sports car.”

Paris was referring to the white Lexus LFA convertible supercar her boyfriend bought her for her birthday.

The blonde beauty topped off a week of partying by meeting her friend Denise Richards at Asellina restaurant on Thursday, before joining her family for a celebratory meal at top eatery Lavo.

Paris had one of her birthday cakes stolen by a musician known as ‘Paz’ from her Hollywood party on Tuesday (15.02.11).

Lady Gaga admits she could be single forever – because she won’t put a man before her career

The ‘Born This Way’ singer refuses to make sacrifices in her professional life for her lovers because her music is her priority, and if that means she doesn’t stay in relationships then so be it.

She said: “Women have to make decisions and it’s the toughest thing ever. Is it a man or is it a career? I was with a man once who couldn’t understand that other things could come first. I tried not to let them but then I was just unhappy, I had to break away. I know I run the risk of being alone for ever, but it’s the price I’ll have to pay.”

One of the reasons why Gaga won’t make compromises for guys is that her music can never disappoint her like a man could.

She added: “I’d never let any man come before my career. I guess there’s some fear inside of me which makes me this way. My music is never going to roll over in bed one morning and tell me that it doesn’t love me any more. I have a big problem with rejection.”

Justin Bieber is a “very independent person”

The ‘Baby’ singer is surrounded by a team of advisers and managers throughout most of his average day, and looks forward to having a little time to reflect.

He told BANG Showbiz: “I guess I’m fine with being by myself. I’m a very independent person, so I don’t really get lonely. I don’t get much time to myself.

“I work a lot, but at night time, that’s basically my down time when I get to just lay in bed, play on my computer, check twitter and all that. I never get to feel anonymous anymore, not really.”

The 16-year-old teen sensation relies on his mother, Pattie Mallette, and music mentor Usher to keep him “grounded” while travelling across the world on tour, and being surrounded by teenage fans almost everywhere he goes.

He added to BANG Showbiz: “I have some great people on my team that keep me grounded, my mum is always with me and they keep me sane, and Usher has been there, so he knows, he helps keep me sane.”

Colin Firth didn’t impress his wife’s parents when they first met

The ‘King’s Speech’ star married film producer Livia Giuggioli – with who he has sons Luca, nine, and Matteo, seven – in 1997 and admits one of the main reasons why he learned to speak her native Italian was a desperate bid to win over her mother and father.

Speaking on CNN’s ‘Piers Morgan Tonight’, Colin – who also has a 20-year-old son Will with his ex-girlfriend Meg Tilly – said: “Her parents warmed up. I mean, taking a stab at their language, you know, I had to do an awful lot to convince them that I was good material for their daughter. Because I had a lot of strikes against me. I was 10 years older nearly, English, didn’t speak the language. Already had a child. I was an actor.

I mean, the list really does get very, very bad so I had to fix the language. It was one thing I could deal with and, you know, there’s nothing like communicating with people in their own tongue.”

The 50-year-old actor is also under no illusions as to who has the upper hand in his and Livia’s relationship.

When quizzed on the dynamic of their marriage, he joked: “I’m afraid she’s the ball breaker and the brains – which leaves me taking out the trash!”

Paris Hilton’s 30th birthday cake was stolen by a party-crasher

The hotel heiress threw a bash at V-Moda Fortress, a private house in the Hollywood Hills, on Tuesday night (15.02.11) and an uninvited guest, a Los Angeles musician only known as ‘Paz’, made off with the special treat.

Paz – who got into the bash through his “well-connected buddy Kevin” – decided to take the three-tiered red cake after realising it wasn’t being served to the 300 guests.

In a posting on his Facebook page – accompanied by a picture of the swiped sweet treat in his kitchen – he wrote: “I woke up this morning with a $2,000 birthday cake in my living room. It’s big. It’s red. It says ‘Paris’ and its f****** delicious … At an inebriated moment I decided no one was going to waste $2,000 worth of anything on my watch. I had to rescue that cake.”

Paz admits he had to come up with a scheme to get the cake out of the house without any of the security employed to “look for idiots” like him realising what he was doing.

But he managed to convince the head of security that he had been told to remove the desert and was soon in his car with his unusual loot.

He explained: “In one fluid motion, I sidestep a confused waiter, seize the prize, and face to the door. I pass the security chief again on the way out. I nod purposefully … he nods in return and 40 seconds later I’m in the front seat of a Nissan Maxima with 70lbs of awesome in my lap. Success!”

The cake was made for Paris – who reached the milestone age on Thursday (17.02.11) – by Lucid absinthe and the company are unhappy with Paz’s actions.

Jared Gurfein – CEO of Viridian Spirits, the company which makes Lucid – said in a statement: “It is very unfortunate that someone stole the cake from Paris’ birthday party. We had the cake designed especially for Paris with Lucid in the batter and a beautiful representation of Lucid’s artwork on it, which she had requested to meet the ‘Moulin Rouge‘ theme of the party.”

Paris – who was presented with another cake that was adorned with a photograph of her – was joined at the bash by her boyfriend Cy Waits, sister Nicky and parents Rick and Kathy, and a host of other guests including Kathy Griffin.

The Pretty Reckless singer – who played Jenny Humphrey in TV drama series ‘Gossip Girl’ - is currently focused on her music career but admits she would like to settle down in future.

When asked if she is looking for love, she told BANG Showbiz: “Do I have time to meet guys? Well, at the moment not particularly, I don’t have a boyfriend right now.

“I love what I’m doing and I’m really proud of the record and excited about the tour, which is all positive. But, you know, I’m a girl. It’s not a priority for me but I’m a chick and every girl wants a guy. There’s no-one off the top of my head who takes my fancy though.”

The 17-year-old star – who debut LP, ‘Light Me Up’, is out now – also admitted travelling the world with her band has not been as fun or glamorous as she initially expected it to be.

The 26-year-old star then lifted her top to reveal the inking, but appeared bemused by her own actions.

Justin Bieber claims there is “no cure for Bieber Fever”

The ‘Runaway Love’ singer gets mobbed by screaming teenage girls wherever he goes – a reaction dubbed ‘Bieber Fever’ – and he claims there is no way his fans can stop themselves.

Justin told BANG Showbiz: “They may be crazy but they’re the ones that help me to be here and who put me where I am in the first place. I never worry about getting more fans as it spreads.

“And, by the way, there is no cure for ‘Bieber Fever!’ ”

The 16-year-old singer also revealed his admirers have gone to extreme lengths in order to meet him, and last year a mother got a tattoo of a radio DJ just so her daughter could meet him.

He added: “I’ve done things like signed a cereal box before. But the weirdest thing that’s been done to meet me? Well some girls have got tattoos of my name done. One mom has a tattoo of a radio DJ on her back, which she had done in order to meet me.

“The radio station had a contest and if anyone got the guy from the radio station’s face tattooed on their back, they could meet me, and that was the contest, and she did it. It was pretty weird!”

Lady Gaga was taught about sex at a young age

The ‘Born This Way‘ hitmaker admitted her mother taught her about the ‘birds and the bees’ when she was a child in the hope of making her more aware about sex.

She explained: “My mother talked to me about sex at a young age and she always taught me to be self aware. She taught me a lot of things when I was young.

“The main thing I remember is her putting her lipstick on the morning and talking to me about life. I would encourage young people all over the world to talk about safe sex with all the people close to them.”

However, the 24-year-old singer believes if more parents broached the “taboo” subject of sex with their kids at a young age then it would make people “respect themselves” more in later life.

Gaga said: “Talking about sex with your children is a bit of a taboo and seen as this very uncomfortable thing. But it’s all because of shame and stigma around those things that makes people not protect themselves and treat themselves with respect. It’s all about self love.”

After infamously making her entrance to the Grammys on Sunday (13.02.11) in a giant egg before “hatching” out of it ahead of a performance of her new song ‘Born This Way’, the eccentric star explained she decided to live in the vessel for three days to undergo “a rebirth“.

Speaking to US TV show ‘Good Morning America‘, she added: “I was in the egg for three days because I wanted to have a rebirth and I think the universe needs to have a rebirth.

“I think we all need to be inside a vessel for three days and think about how we can love ourselves and protect ourselves more. We need to make the most of life and not live life outwards looking for validation, but inwards. Look inside of yourself to your spirit and your inner light.”

Shakira has been named the Harvard Foundation’s 2011 Artist of the Year.

The Columbian singer will receive “the Foundation’s most prestigious medal” in recognition of her music and charity work at the annual Cultural Rhythms festival which is held at Sanders Theatre on the grounds of Harvard University in Cambridge, Massachusetts, on February 26.

Acknowledging the world’s most celebrated artists, scientists and leaders for their humanitarian efforts, the initiative is the college’s centre for intercultural arts and sciences.

The foundation’s director S. Allen Counter said Shakira had been chosen to receive the accolade this year because of her musical contributions to culture and her work helping children in impoverished areas such as Haiti.

He said: “The students and faculty of the Harvard Foundation are honoured to present multi-platinum artist Shakira with the 2011 Artist of the Year award. Her contributions to music and distinguished history of creativity have been applauded by people throughout the world, and she is greatly admired worldwide for her humanitarian efforts through her Barefoot Foundation.”

The ‘Hips Don’t Lie‘ hitmaker – who has sold 50 million albums worldwide – started the Barefoot Foundation when she was just 18 and has opened six schools through it.

The charity’s goal is to ensure that every child has the basic right to a quality education.

Shakira has also been a UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador since 2003.

Previous recipients of the Harvard Foundation’s Artist of the Year award include Sharon Stone, Will Smith, Matt Damon and Salma Hayek.

Justin Bieber is excited people get to meet his grandparents in his new movie

The 16-year-old singer says his favourite thing about his biographical documentary ‘Never Say Never 3-D’ is the fact his fans get to see some of his family life.

Speaking at the European premiere of the film at London’s The O2 arena on Wednesday night (16.02.11), Justin told BANG Showbiz: “In the film, you get to see just me in my regular life and I take you back to my hometown. You get to meet my grandparents so it’s really cool.”

Justin admits the first time he saw himself on the big screen he freaked out because his head was “sooo big”.

He said: “It was kind of weird seeing myself so big, and it made me feel a little self conscious, because it’s, like, you’re face is sooo big (sic) when you see it on the cinema screen.”

The premiere was attended by hundreds of screaming fans and the pop star needed a police escort to get to the venue.

Among the guests on the purple carpet were British musician Craig David, and Justin claims he could collaborate with the singer in the future.

Asked about the possibility of them recording a song together, he said: “Hopefully. I’m a big fan of his work and I hope we get to do something soon.”

Following his premiere in the UK, Justin has another exciting date coming up in his diary – he turns 17 on March 1.

However, the constantly busy ‘Baby’ singer has only one wish – to sleep.

Justin – who won the International Breakthrough Act prize at this week’s BRIT Awards - said: “What do I most want for my birthday? I want to sleep!”

Nick Jonas wants to appear in ‘Glee’

The 18-year-old singer is a big fan of the US musical drama series and would be “honoured” if show creator Ryan Murphy offered him a cameo role.

He said: “Everybody says this, obviously, in the entertainment business because it’s such a popular show – that’s why I’m reluctant to say it from time to time – but I really do appreciate the use of music in ‘Glee.’ I think everyone can relate that’s in the music business. Everyone’s just thankful that music is kind of popular again because ‘Glee’ does a great job of incorporating it into the show.

“I would humbly say that if there’s ever an opportunity they see that I could work well on that show, I would be honoured. Plus I think that cast is really talented – it would be fun.”

Even if he isn’t offered a role in the show, the Jonas Brothers star would happily grant permission for his music to be used.

He told website TVSquad.com: “Would I let them use our music? Absolutely! Whatever they wanted to use.”

The hotel heiress admitted she was spoilt by Cy Waits on the romantic day as the nightclub mogul treated her to expensive gifts as well as taking her for a romantic meal at BOA Steakhouse in Los Angeles.

Speaking about her Valentine’s treats, Paris tweeted: “Just got home from a romantic Valentine’s Day dinner with my love. He gave me the most beautiful ruby and diamond necklace. Loves it. (sic)”

She then added: “I love Valentine’s Day! So romantic and sweet!  Hope everyone is having a lovely evening. xo Paris. (sic)”

Earlier this week, Paris – who turns 30 tomorrow (17.02.11) – insisted she had never been happier because her career is going well, she’s in a great relationship and is fitter than ever because Cy has become her personal trainer.

She said: “Life is great at the moment! I have my new show, ‘The World According To Paris’, starting soon; things with my boyfriend are great; and now I have a new weekly workout, which I love.

“Me and Cy have been training together for the past three months. It’s all new to me. I used to hate working out, but I started because it was something we could do together. I wanted to try something he enjoyed. He makes it fun for me.

Scott is believed to have got down on one knee in the final episode of Kourtney and her sister Kim Kardashian’s reality show ‘Kourtney and Kim Take New York‘ – and now the pair are in talks for their own spin-off show, which will revolve around their wedding plans.

The plans come after the 31-year-old socialite’s other sister Khloe Kardashian signed up to star in her own show revolving around her life with her husband, Los Angeles Lakers star Lamar Odom.

An insider told PopEater.com: “The last episode of ‘Kourtney and Kim Take New York’ is Scott proposing. Then just like sister Khloe and Lamar, Kourtney and Scott will not only get their own show but also a wedding. It’s going to be TV gold.”

Kourtney’s mother Kris Jenner will assist on the show for E! which will see her daughter and future son-in-law – who have a 14-month-old son Mason together – plan their big day.

Tinie Tempah and Arcade Fire both scooped two trophies at tonight’s (15.02.11) BRIT Awards

Rapper Tinie took home British Breakthrough Act and British Single for his debut track ‘Pass Out’ – both of which were voted for by the public – while the Canadian indie group won International Album for their record ‘The Suburbs’, as well as International Group. Accepting his first award, Tinie gave a tight hug to presenter Fearne Cotton, before saying: “I got a BRIT Award guys! I want to big up my mum, my family and God – and I want to big up all the fans. Thank you. Biggest Breakthrough baby!”

The 22-year-old later took to the stage to perform a medley of his tracks ‘Written In The Stars’, ‘Miami 2 Ibiza’ and ‘Pass Out’, which saw him joined by producer Labrinth, whom he paid tribute to when picking up his BRIT for ‘Pass Out’, He said: “A second BRIT! I just want to thank Labrinth for being the genius the created the instrumental, Labrinth this one’s for you and me brother, and for UK music, peace and love.”

Arcade fire also performed their track ‘Ready To Start’ at the event, and as they accepted their International Album award, paid tribute to all the UK bands who had influenced them, saying: “We’d like to thank all the British band which changed our lives: New Order, [David] Bowie, Culture Club, Depeche [Mode], The Smiths – Thank you Britain, it’s an honour.”

The biggest single prize of the night, British Album Of The Year, went to folk act Mumford and Sons for their debut album ‘Sigh No More’. Accepting the trophy, they said: “Thank you very much indeed, we’re very humbled, tanks to our families and friends, thank you very much!”

Other winners on the night included Cee Lo Green, who picked up International Male Solo Artist and Plan B, who was named British Male Solo artist. Elsewhere teen sensation Justin Bieber picked up the International Breakthrough trophy, while folk singer Laura Marling was named British Female solo Artist. The awards closed with a special duet between Cee Lo Green and ‘Stone Cold Sober’ singer Paloma Faith, who gave an edited, radio friendly rendition of his track ‘F**k You’.

Alleged Playboy Outbreak — Grotto Under Investigation

The legendary grotto at the Playboy Mansion has been targeted in a Health Dept. investigation into what may have caused a respiratory epidemic following a party at Hef’s place earlier this month.

TMZ has obtained a survey sent to everyone who worked at the Mansion during the week of an Internet-entrepreneur bash on Feb. 3 — in an effort to see if there’s a connection between the mansion’s grotto/pool and the outbreak.

The survey specifically asks if the workers spent time around two party-centric “water features” on the property — 1) Grotto/pool … 2) Dance floor near fog machine.

Investigators also want to know how much time employees spent in each environment.

The survey notes that the L..A County Department of Health may follow up with certain individuals depending on their answers.

Frankie Muniz’ Girlfriend: He Put Gun to His Head

Frankie Muniz put a gun to his head and punched his girlfriend during a nuclear domestic argument Friday night … this according to the woman.

TMZ obtained a police report filed in Phoenix, AZ last Friday. According to the report, Muniz and his girlfriend, Elycia Turnbow, were arguing in their home about “prior relationships.” Elycia told cops, Frankie “grabbed a gun and held it to his head, possibly with the intent of committing suicide.”

Elycia says she became worried and called one of Frankie’s bandmates to take him to the hospital.

Frankie tells a different story, claiming Elycia was screaming and yelling at him when he “fell and hit his head.” Muniz says that’s why he went to the hospital. Muniz denied putting a gun to his head, but did say, “I grabbed the case, but not the gun … it isn’t even loaded.”

In fact … the cops did find the gun and it was loaded.

Muniz was released a short time later, went home, and just after 10PM the same night, things exploded back at the house. According to the police report, Elycia says, Frankie “punched her in the back of the head, and threw her into a wall while in the downstairs bedroom.”

Muniz denied punching Elycia, telling cops, “I love her too much. She is the woman I want to marry.”

Muniz told cops … what actually happened was that he was sleeping but awakened “by Elycia yelling at him and hitting him in the face.” Muniz said he was defending himself when “Elycia fell to the ground and started to kick the bedroom door.”

Cops say in the report … there were no visible injuries.

The handgun was impounded and both Frankie and Elycia were warned they’d both go to jail if things got out of control again.

The ‘A Little Bit of Heaven’ star prefers to have a natural look and claims she never spends hours in front of the mirror, only using concealer to hide the odd blemish on her face.

The 31-year-old actress said: “It’s kind of nice because I don’t like being made up, I feel like I’m a guy like that.

“I’m the kind of person who walks out of my house and doesn’t even think about putting on make-up, unless I have a big old zit, then I’ll try to cover it! But I’m not really a fussy person.”

However, Kate – who is mother to seven-year-old Ryder, her son with ex-husband Chris Robinson, and is currently expecting her first child with her new boyfriend, Muse rocker Matt Bellamy – admits she sometimes wishes she wore make-up more often when she sees unflattering paparazzi shots of herself.

She added to Britain’s OK! magazine: “I pay for it sometimes, because when you’re getting your picture taken you think, ‘God, I really should have put on a little blush because that is just not OK’ But I can’t be bothered, who has got the time when you have kids? You’d rather be doing other things.”

Billy Ray – who is currently in the process of divorcing Miley’s mother Tish Cyrus – also revealed he avoided the singer-and-actress’ 18th birthday party because he didn’t want to be blamed for the fact it was held at Los Angeles bar Trousdale, even though she is three years under the legal age for drinking alcohol in the US.

He explained in an interview with America’s GQ magazine: “You know why I didn’t go? Because they were having it in a bar. It was wrong. It was for 21 years old and up… all them people, they all wanted me to fly out so that then when all the bad press came they could say, ‘Daddy endorsed this stuff.’ I started realising I’m being used.

“After the incident with the legal high, her handlers told me it was none of my business.

“I should have said, ‘Enough is enough – it’s getting dangerous and somebody’s going to get hurt’…

Honestly, I didn’t know the ball was out of bounds until it was way up in the stands somewhere.”

Miley shot to fame on Disney TV show ‘Hannah Montana’ with Billy Ray, 49, playing her father but he admitted he wishes the programme had “never happened” because of the impact it had on his family life.

He said: “The damn show destroyed my family. I hate to say it, but I’d take it back in a second.”

The singer also admitted he thinks his relationship with Miley could be improved, saying their communication is “good enough to know it could be a lot better.”

Mel Gibson Shut Down Over TMZ Story

Mel Gibson lost a round in court after arguing that Oksana Grigorieva should be stripped of custody because she allegedly leaked info to TMZ.

Sources connected with the case tell us … Mel’s lawyers argued to Judge Scott Gordon last week … Oksana was not acting in the best interests of Lucia by allegedly telling TMZ what she said during her deposition.

TMZ broke the story … Oksana claimed during her deposition that Mel beat her during sex.

Grigorieva denied leaking the info to us — and Mel’s lawyers responded by getting declarations from everyone else in the case stating they weren’t the leak … so, they said, it had to be Oksana.

In the end, Judge Gordon told everyone to go home, insisting who-leaked-what was irrelevant to child custody.

Jennifer Lopez is enjoying her judging role on ‘American Idol’ because she can pass on her experience to the pop hopefuls.

The 41-year-old singer-and-actress – who is joined on the panel of the TV talent show by Randy Jackson and Aerosmith rocker Steven Tyler – says the numerous years she has spent in the music business allow her to understand the predicament of the performers in the auditions.

Speaking on the Grammy Awards red carpet in Los Angeles last night (13.02.11), she said: “I love it. Honestly, with all the experience I’ve had over the years, it’s like, what do you do with it? Steven, he’s been on the scene for 40 years touring. You have so much information, you have so much experience and so many little titbits you don’t even realise you have in your mind.

“You see someone perform, and you’re in the position to go, ‘Hey, you know what? Why don’t you think about this? You know what I see? I see this.’ ”

Jennifer – who is married to musician Marc Anthony, with whom she has two-year-old twins Max and Emme – also admitted she finds being a judge on the series “lots of fun”.

Russell Brand’s marriage to Katy Perry is “ordinary”.

The British comedian insists the pair – who married in October 2010 after dating for just a year – are no different from any other couple and argue about simple things.

He said: “It’s nice to be married to Katy Perry but you’d be surprised how ordinary the marriage is.

“The other day I was wearing a shirt and she said, ‘Are you wearing that shirt out?’ And it was not a proper question, it was like she meant, ‘Get it off’. And I had to take it off.”

However, despite their petty arguments, the former womaniser – who has a history of drug addiction – insists he loves the “normality” of their squabbles and wouldn’t swap his marriage to return to his single days.

He explained while hosting US TV show ‘Saturday Night Live’ at the weekend: “The other day she lent my car to her brother without asking and I was going to get angry but then I thought that’s such a lovely normal problem to have; My wife lent my car to her brother.

“When I think of the problems I used to have which were much more like, ‘Russell, the police are at the door – flush the drugs down the toilet, they’ve got sniffer dogs with them!’ ”

Meanwhile, Katy, 26, treated fans to their first look at footage from her nuptials during her performance at the Grammy Awards last night (13.02.11).

The singer – who was nominated for four awards but left with none – projected pictures of their wedding ceremony in India on to a huge dress which flowed from a swing she was seated upon as she performed ‘Not Like the Movies’.

Katy was accompanied to the ceremony by Russell, 35, and her grandmother, Ann Hudson.

She joked beforehand: “If I don’t go home with any Grammys, I still go home with my Grammy”.

Lady Gaga and country trio Lady Antebellm were among the big winners at last night’s (13.02.11) Grammy Awards.

The eccentric singer – who was carried down the prestigious event’s red carpet in a giant egg, before ‘hatching’ out of it ahead of a performance of her new song ‘Born This Way’ – took home three prizes, including Best Pop Vocal Album for ‘The Fame Monster’, and while accepting her award she paid tribute to Whitney Houston.

Gaga – who also won the awards for Best Short-Form Video and Best Female Pop Vocal Performance for single ‘Bad Romance’ – said: “I wanted to thank Whitney, because when I wrote ‘Born this Way’, I imagined she was singing it – because I wasn’t secure enough in myself to imagine I was a superstar.

“So, Whitney, I imagined you were singing born this way when I wrote it.”

While Gaga picked up three awards Lady Antebellum took home five prizes including Song of the Year and Record of the Year for their hit ‘Need You Now’.

The show – which was held at Los Angeles’ Staples center – began with a tribute to Aretha Franklin, which was performed by Christina Aguilera, Florence Welch, Jennifer Hudson, Martina McBride and Yolanda Adams.

Aretha – who is suffering from pancreatic cancer – appeared via video link to thank the singers for their performance.

The 68-year-old singer said: “I can’t tell you how thrilled I am to be with you this evening. Thank you to all of you who took the time to send me get well cards and flowers, beautiful flowers, and most importantly, your prayers.”

Other notable performances included Gwyneth Paltrow joining Cee Lo Green and Jim Henson’s puppets to perform his hit single ‘F**k You’, while Rolling Stones frontman Sir Mick Jagger was given a standing ovation for his debut Grammy performance, delivering a rendition of ‘Everybody Needs Somebody To Love’ in tribute to Solomon Burke, who died last year.

Other winners included Jay-Z – who picked up two trophies for Empire State of Mind, his duet with Alicia Keys – Eminem, Arcade Fire and John Legend.

While he was expected to win, Justin Bieber was beaten by jazz artist Esperanza Spalding in the Best New Artist category, although the 16-year-old star was joined by Usher and Jaden Smith during his performance at the ceremony.
