Gia Mantegna has been named Miss Golden Globe 2011

The 20-year-old actress – who is the daughter of former award nominee Joe Mantegna and his restaurateur wife Arlene – feels “honoured” to have been awarded the prestigious title by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association.

She said: “I have grown up watching the Golden Globes with my family and feel so fortunate to be part of such a magical evening, so early on in my career.”

Previous Miss Golden Globes include Melanie Griffith – daughter of Hitchcock’s leading lady Tippi Hedren - who gave out the awards in 1975.

Rumer Willis – whose parents are Bruce Willis and Demi Moore – was named Miss Golden Globe in 2008, but the subsequent ceremony was cancelled due to the Hollywood writer’s strike.

Kevin Costner’s daughter Lily was Miss Golden Globe in 2004 and in 1995 the title was given to a boy, Clark Gable’s son John.

Gia – who is dating ‘Hannah Montana’ actor Mitchel Musso – started her acting career at the age of 13 when she appeared in the film ‘Uncle Nero’ alongside her father.

She has since appeared on ‘Secret Life of the American Teenager,’ ‘Criminal Minds’ and NickTeen series ‘Gigantic’ alongside Meryl Streep’s daughter Grace Gummer.

The president of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, Philip Berk, commented: “We are thrilled to have Gia as this year’s Miss Golden Globe.

“She is just as talented as she is beautiful and will surely be a great addition to the show.”

The 68th Golden Globe Awards – which honour the best in film and television – will be presented on January 16 at the Beverly Hilton hotel in California.

Ayda Field hopes she and her husband Robbie Williams don’t have ugly children

The American actress, who married the Take That singer in August, says the couple plan to start trying for a baby in the New Year but is paranoid about having “minging” – a British slang word for unattractive – kids.

She said: “I can’t wait to have kids. I hope they are not minging. But some people at my school had the ugliest parents, and they came out pretty.

“I hope ours gets all the best bits, but it’s pot luck who gets the minging ones. Hmmm, I’ll love them any way, I guess…”

She added to the Daily Mirror newspaper: “But even supermodels can have ugly parents, and they turn out great. So I’m excited.”

The blonde beauty has also revealed the couple’s plans for Christmas.

Ayda, 31, and 36-year-old Robbie will be eating their turkey at their sun-drenched Los Angeles home.

She said: “I’m really looking forward to Christmas in Los Angeles.

But we’ll have a British roast, just with the sunshine. Then we’re coming back to Britain for four months.”

Robert Pattinson once dreamed of being a rapper

The British actor – who is best known for portraying vampire Edward Cullen in ‘The Twilight Saga’ – was “obsessed” with Eminem as a teenager and made recordings of himself performing his own composition.

He said: “You want a secret? OK, how about this – I’ve got a whole collection of tapes of me rapping from when I was 13! I wanted to be a rapper so there are hundreds and hundreds of tapes. They’re very amusing!

“I was obsessed with Eminem when I was younger. When he first came out I was about 12 and fanatical about his ‘Slim Shady’ CD. I think he’s a genius.”

The 24-year-old star even had his own “crew” but admits his lyrics were less-than-authentic.

He explained to Top of the Pops magazine: “Most of my rhymes were stolen off other people anyway. They were all like, ‘I was raised on these streets..’, which was a complete farce because I was actually raised in quite a nice area of London called Barnes. Not very ghetto at all!

“I was obsessed with it all, though. I even had my own little crew – we called ourselves Big Tub and the Tappy Cats.”

Robert has previously recorded tracks for the ‘Twilight’ soundtracks but insists he has no plans to move into music full time.

He said: “I’m a bit of an attention seeker – I love being on stage. But the thought of performing music on stage terrifies me. I’m not scared of acting though.”

However, if the chance came to perform with rapper Eminem, Robert would jump at the chance.

He said: “I’d love to rap with Eminem! That would be really amazing.”

Taylor Swift is planning a Christmas-themed birthday party.

The ‘Love Story’ singer – who is rumoured to be dating actor Jake Gyllenhaal – turns 21 on December 13 and loves celebrating during the festive season because it means there is less focus on her.

She explained: “I love having a Christmas themed birthday party so people can give each other presents at my birthday party, so it’s not so much a spotlight birthday [thing] — especially with a 21st birthday where people are like, ‘Huh? Huh? What’s she gonna do?’

“I didn’t want it to be a crazy club thing, I just want it to be very me and the me thing to do would be to have a Christmas birthday party.”

Taylor certainly has a lot to celebrate this year, as her latest album ‘Speak Now’ broke sales records in its first week of release earlier this year and she admits it took a while for the news to sink in.

On hearing the news she told US TV show ‘Access Hollywood’: “That was just a crazy phone call to get. To have the phone call with my mom and dad on the phone and my record label president says, ‘I guess you’re my million dollar baby!’ I was like, ‘Are you serious? Are you talking in code? Are you saying what I think you’re saying, because if you’re saying that, I’m gonna need a minute.’ ”

The 27-year-old singer is looking for spiritual enlightenment after suffering a tumultuous 2010 which saw her divorce her husband Ashley Cole after he cheated on her and overcome malaria and is investigating different faiths.

A source said: “Cheryl has awakened her spiritual side. She has been tapping into higher powers for answers and guidance. She’s been doing some deep thinking – especially after malaria. Christianity is closest to her, but she’s open to other religious influences.”

Cheryl’s mother Joan Callaghan is a regular churchgoer while the star’s close friend, Black Eyed Peas star will.i.am, is deeply religious after being raised a Baptist in California.

The Girls Aloud star could also be seeking spiritual enlightenment from her rumoured love interest Derek Hough, who is a practising Mormon.

Justin Bieber thinks his fans are “crazy”

The teenage heartthrob says there is nothing some girls won’t do to get close to him and some admirers even hid in a dumpster in a bid to meet their idol.

He said in an interview with The Sun newspaper: “The Beliebers have done some pretty crazy stuff.

“Last week, the night before I was due to do a show in Germany, four girls went into a dumpster so they could sneak into the building.

“They climbed in and hid. When the guys working on the truck started getting the garbage they found them straight away. It was crazy.”

The programme Justin was due to appear on was the German TV show ‘Wetten, Dass?’ (‘You Bet’) but he had to cancel after contestant Samuel Koch suffered serious back injuries as he attempted to jump over cars on spring-powered stilts.

The hysteria that surrounds the ‘Baby’ hitmaker can sometimes be dangerous. Last November some fans were injured in a crush in Long Island, New York, when he appeared at a mall for a show.

The 16-year-old pop star said: “I’ve had a few gigs where things have got out of hand and there has been a huge crush with my fans. They are important and I don’t want them being hurt. They are a mad crowd.”

One thing Justin has enjoyed about finding fame is getting to meet his idols, but he insists he always manages to keep his cool when he is introduced to his heroes.

The singer – who is a huge soccer fan – said: “I don’t get nervous meeting famous people really. I have met David Beckham a few times. He’s a nice guy. He came to my show in Los Angeles. His kids were with him. They were nice too.”

Angelina Jolie likes having her children on movie sets

The 35-year-old beauty – who raises kids Maddox, nine, Pax, seven, Zahara, five, Shiloh, four and twins Knox and Vivienne, two with Hollywood heartthrob Brad Pitt – loved having them on set with her during the filming of new movie ‘The Tourist’ and reveals they laughed at her portrayal of English character Elsie Ward in the film.

She said: “It’s always fun to have family on set. I think it wouldn’t be the same without them. They get to come and laugh at mommy for playing dress up and having a funny accent.

“Fortunately, we’ve given them a love of discovering new places and new people and new cultures. And they like to pack their bags and have new adventures.”

Angelina relished the opportunity to play a “real lady” on the project alongside Johnny Depp as it was something new for her.

She told MTV News: “I liked that she was a real lady, a real European lady, and I’ve never played that before. I thought it was a challenge for me to be a girl, a real girly girl.”

She recently revealed she hoped her kids would grow up to be “beautiful individuals” who are “happy and loved”.

She said: “Hopefully they are happy, and they know that they were loved, and that they were encouraged to be who they are, and not pushed into something that they’re not.

Demi Lovato is close to reaching a settlement with the dancer she has been accused of punching.

Lawyers acting for the troubled star – who is currently in rehab receiving treatment for “emotional and physical issues” – have entered negotiations with Alex Welch’s attorneys, with both parties hopeful to reach an amicable conclusion to the dispute.

Alex’s lawyer Donald Karpel said: “Alex is seeking a settlement, an apology from Demi and a donation made to a charity of her choice.”

Donald is currently working with the firm representing Demi and says he has “faith” an amicable settlement will be reached soon.

A spokesperson for the ‘Sunny With A Chance’ star told RadarOnline.com: “Demi’s attorneys have had an initial discussion with Mr. Karpel. They are exploring the possibility of an amicable resolution of this matter. We do not plan on making further public comments during this process.”

Alex, 21, had been planning to give an interview about the incident, in which she suffered a black eye, but was asked by Demi’s representatives to hold off until the case is negotiated.

She said only: “I hope to get this settled and put this behind me.”

Recalling the alleged attack, Alex recently revealed it happened after Demi had been told off about her behaviour while on the Jonas Brothers tour and, believing one of the dancers had complained about her, the teenage star took them into a room and threatened them, saying: “If I find out who told on me …”

However, Alex insisted she had no idea what the star was referring to and was stunned when Demi approached her on a plane the following day and punched her.

She said: “We were on the plane with the Jonases having this awesome time and I didn’t get a call or text from Demi or a, ‘Hey, you got a problem with me,’ nothing. And she walks up and punches me and literally walked away and got in her seat.

“No one should walk up and do that and brush it over, it’s not right.”

Demi left the tour immediately after the incident and checked into rehab.

Kim Kardashian is world’s highest paid reality TV star

The 30-year-old socialite – who appears alongside her family in hit show ‘Keeping Up with the Kardashians’ as well as starring with sister Kourtney in ‘Kourtney & Kim Take New York’ – topped the list by US-based website The Daily Beast after earning $6 million in 2010.

Former ‘Hills’ star Lauren Conrad came second, taking home $5 million, while Kim’s sisters Khloe and Kourtney also made the list after each earning $2.5 million.

Kim is said to earn up to $75,000 for a personal appearance and has made a fortune from endorsement deals, which include Skechers sneakers, Kotex tampons, as well as her own range of swimwear, jewellery and perfume.

The Daily Beast’s list measured those “who’ve cashed in on fame versus talent” and they only counted reality TV stars with a show that aired or was in production in 2010.

Other stars to make the list include former Playboy model Kendra Wilkinson, mother-of-eight Kate Gosselin, former ‘Real Housewives’ star Bethenny Frankel and Audrina Patridge, who is working on her own programme, entitled ‘The Audrina Show’, after originally shooting to fame on ‘The Hills’.

Nicole Scherzinger’s family hate her raunchy stage outfits

The Pussycat Dolls star – who grew up in a staunchly Catholic family – admitted her grandfather, who is a priest, and her mother are often shocked by her provocative clothes.

She said: “I still listen to my mom and my grandfather is a priest! They weren’t too excited when they saw the covers of magazines where my back was nude, and when I did the ‘Hush Hush’ video, my mother was like:, ‘Oh my goodness, I can’t believe you were at the bathtub, almost. so bare.’ “

However the ‘Poison’ singer says that despite her family’s conservative views when it comes to her stage outfits they are extremely supportive of her career and her grandfather even went to Pussycat Dolls concerts before the band went on hiatus.

She told Britain’s OK! magazine: “For the most part my family have been very supportive of me. They know where my heart lies and what my faith is and that I’m still grounded.

Johnny Depp doesn’t like mobile phones

The 47-year-old actor – who has children Lily, 11 and Jack, eight with French singer-and-actress Vanessa Paradis – likes to maintain a low profile and so doesn’t have a mobile phone, but does keep the internet because he thinks it is an “interesting” way to communicate.

He said: “We have internet and stuff like that because I think that’s the safest form, well, most interesting form of communication.

“I just don’t like phones, I just don’t like them. Being reachable all the time.”

Asked how a friend would be able to get in touch with him should they need to, he told Access Hollywood: “You’d have to know how to just buzz me on the internet or something.”

Johnny’s ‘The Tourist’ co-star Angelina Jolie - who raises six children with long-term partner Brad Pitt – recently revealed neither she nor Johnny and Vanessa are particularly social, despite being Hollywood royalty.

She said: “We’re both not that social. I don’t think either one of us goes out of our house, especially in France. We’re both locked away.”

The 47-year-old actor – who stars in the ‘The Tourist’ with Angelina Jolie – insists he is just starting to get over his defeat.

He quipped: “I feel emasculated. I feel like I’ve been beaten down like some horrible … you know, like some pathetic harp seal. But, I mean, that’s how it goes, isn’t it?”

Johnny – who recently finished filming ‘Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides’ – has no plans to try and reclaim the honour for a third time.

He told MTV News: “I think I can work my way forward, but will I try for it again? No… I worked so hard to gain that title.”

Ryan, 34, was named Sexiest Man Alive by People in November, and admitted he was going to have to face a lot of ridicule from his friends, family and wife Scarlett Johansson about the title.

He said: “You just have to go with the flow. This gives my family entre into teasing me for the rest of my life.

“Now it’s going to be, ‘Sexiest man, take out the garbage.’ That does sound better. But the most difficult part is going to be organically working this title into a conversation with random strangers.”

The 35-year-old actress – who has been single since splitting from long-term boyfriend Stuart Townsend earlier this year – offered to attend a Los Angeles Lakers basketball game with whoever bid the highest for a pair of court-side tickets at a fundraiser in New York last night (06.12.10).

A source who attended the Charlize Theron Africa Outreach Project dinner and auction at the Darby Restaurant told gossip website Just Jared: “All the men in the room were doubling the bids on the courtside Lakers tickets if Charlize attended the game with them. She agreed to attend for $20,000.”

The ‘Monster’ actress launched her charity – which aims to create safer and healthier lives for at-risk children and communities in South Africa, especially those affected by HIV and Aids – in 2007.

Charlize’s close pal Liv Tyler attended the event to see her friend being auctioned off for charity.

Other celebrities who attended included ‘Mad Men’ actor Jon Hamm and wife Jennifer Westfeldt, James Blunt’s former girlfriend Petra Nemcova and fellow model Irina Shayk, while ‘Jackass’ star Johnny Knoxville brought his new wife Naomi Nelson.

Oprah Winfrey received an award at the 33rd Kennedy Centre Honours last night (06.12.10)

The chat show host was one of five celebrities – along with Sir Paul McCartney, country singer Merle Haggard, Broadway composer Jerry Herman and dancer Bill T. Jones – honoured at the event held at the White House in Washington DC.

Oprah – who was accompanied by her long-term partner Stedman Grahan - and Paul held hands on stage as US President Barack Obama addressed the crowd, saying the recipients had “given the nation the extraordinary gift of the arts”.

He added: “Although the honourees on this stage each possess a staggering amount of talent, the truth is, they aren’t being recognised tonight simply because of their careers as great lyricists or songwriters or dancers or entertainers.

“Instead, they’re being honoured for their unique ability to bring us closer together and to capture something larger about who we are – not just as Americans, but as human beings.”

No Doubt performed the Beatles’ track ‘Hello, Goodbye’ while stars such as Julia Roberts, Claire Danes, Steven Tyler, Angela Lansbury and Sidney Poitier attended the star-studded evening.

After Oprah received the award at the Kennedy Centre Honours, comedian Chris Rock joked “No one deserves this award more than Oprah Winfrey, but no one needs it less.”

Despite becoming an A-list star through appearing in ‘True Blood’, Stephen – who is married to his co-star Anna Paquin – still has to deal with the same sort of problems as anyone else, in particular people mistakenly dialling his phone number.

He added: “My mobile phone number is almost identical to that of a party supplies company in Venice, Los Angeles, so I get phone calls asking me for things like balloon helium.”

However, the actor is hopeful the company will eventually go out of business and he will have no need to change his number.

He told Britain’s Marie Claire magazine: “I’ve lived here for five years, it’s my number! It’s funny because I also know when the company’s not doing very well – occasionally I get calls from the bank.”

Angelina Jolie is trying to raise her children as “individuals”

The ‘Tourist’ actress – who raises Maddox, nine, Pax, seven, Zahara, five, Shiloh, four, and two-year-old twins Knox and Vivienne with partner Brad Pitt - said she wants nothing more for her kids than for them to be comfortable with themselves.

She said: “Hopefully I’m giving my children the sense that they are deeply loved and deeply safe. At the same time we are hopefully encouraging their individuality as they get to know who they are, and not getting in the way of that. That’s why they are six very strong individuals.”

The Oscar-winning star revealed part of encouraging her children’s’ individuality is allowing them to develop their own identities and admitted she cannot understand the recent controversy when she allowed her daughter Shiloh to cut her hair short and dress like a boy.

Angelina added to YOU Magazine: “I don’t think it’s for the world to interpret anything. She likes to dress like a boy and wants her hair cut like a boy and she wanted to be called John for a while. Some kids wear capes and want to be Superman and she wants to be like her brothers. It’s who she is. It’s been a surprise to us and it’s really interesting, but she’s so much more than that – she’s funny and sweet and pretty. But she does love a tie.”

Stephen Moyer worried he’d ended his career – by falling off a curb

The British actor recently slipped and damaged his ankle while holidaying in Italy and admits he feared it would have an impact on his future filming commitments.

The ‘True Blood’ star said: “I injured my ankle while stepping off a curb. It was scary because you think, ‘Everything’s going to stop, I won’t be able to earn a living.’ “If you’re doing an acting job you have to sign a contract to say you won’t ski, ride horses or bungee jump in case you injure yourself – but I was just stepping off a curb.”

Stephen – who stars alongside his wife Anna Paquin in the TV show – also admitted he sometimes doesn’t realise exactly how famous he is
and feels a little starstruck at Hollywood parties.

He told Britain’s Marie Claire magazine: “Being famous feels like walking into a party you weren’t invited to. Sometimes I stand in a place surrounded by people I grew up watching in films I and I think, ‘How did I get in?’ “

Angelina Jolie wants to move to Africa in the future

The ‘Tourist’ star – who raises six children, Maddox, nine, Pax, seven, Zahara, five, Shiloh, four, and two-year-old twins Knox and Vivienne, with her partner Brad Pitt – plans to move her brood to the continent when she decides to accept less acting work.

She said: “I can imagine in the years to come that I might slow down on the work front. It’s not that I’d be retiring, there just might be fewer films at some point. “The truth is I’d love to live in Africa at some point. I’d love to  spend more time flying planes. And artistically, there will be other things to do.”

The 35-year-old actress has also revealed she doesn’t think she and Brad, 46, will make another film together, because they are never
offered joint projects. The couple famously met and fell in love on the set of 2005 action movie “Mr. and Mrs. Smith“, while Brad was still married to Jennifer Aniston.

Angelina added: “We don’t get offered a lot of films together. We discuss it because there’s always a girl in his film or a guy in mine. On one hand, we’d love to work together and bring the kids with us on that adventure.

“As much as we’d like to indulge as artists and play together, we’d only do it if the movie could be fun for the fans.”

Rihanna is annoyed she didn’t realise she was in an abusive relationship

The singer was assaulted by then-boyfriend Chris Brown in February 2009, and though they split following the attack, they briefly reconciled and now the ‘Only Girl (In The World)’ hitmaker admits she can’t believe she didn’t end the relationship sooner.

She said: “It was a situation I always told myself I would never allow myself to be in. It’s something I would force girlfriends to get out of. But there I was, sitting in it.

“I witnessed physical abuse happening to my mum and I always said I would never let that happen to me, and then it was happening to me.

“Now, when I look back at it, it just bugs me out that I couldn’t see it for what it was.”

Despite the shocking attack, Rihanna – who is now dating baseball star Matt Kemp – insists she never wanted people to pity her and hates the fact her personal problems became public knowledge.

She told Britain’s GQ magazine: “Before that, I was just a little girl from the island, singing pop music. It was easy to think I was shallow I had everything. It seemed like I had no problems in the world.

“And all of a sudden, boom! Everybody realises I do have problems. I have too much pride. I would rather put on a face. I would never let anyone see me cry. And I’m not like, ‘Please cry for me, I’ve been in a bad relationship.’ I hate that you know that and I don’t want you to remember me for that.

“That’s the defensive part of me. Even if I feel really bad about a situation, I put up that wall so hard that I almost believe myself that I don’t care.”

Dannii Minogue used to feel like she was merely Kylie’s “fat ugly sister”

The Australian beauty first came to the UK when her younger sibling was at the height of her success in the late 1980s – scoring eight top three hits in the country’s singles chart between 1988 and 1990 – and admits her experiences were damaging to her self esteem.

She said: “When I first came to England it was hard because it was Kyliemania. She was this cute little thing and I was the fat, ugly sister.

“Can you imagine for years being asked what it’s like to be Kylie’s sister?”

Although Dannii admitted she was made to feel “fat and ugly” she was still careful not to take any drastic measures after seeing one of her old friends almost die as a result of eating disorder anorexia nervosa.

She explained to Britain’s Marie Claire magazine: “I’d been very good friends with this girl since primary school. I distinctly remember going into a hospital room and seeing her lying there, strapped to the bed.

“I was just a young teenager and it was so horrendous. I watched my friend nearly die from anorexia. There was no headline that someone could write about me that would make me do that myself.”
