Sofia Vergara often gets mistaken for her son’s girlfriend
The 37-year-old actress – who plays Gloria Delgado-Pritchett in US sitcom ‘Modern Family’ – revealed while she loves being seen as young enough to be 18-year-old Manolo’s girlfriend, he finds it embarrassing.
Sofia – who is divorced from Manolo’s father – explained: “I love it, he hates it. He’s like, ‘Blech’. When people say, ‘Oh, do you want to buy this for you girlfriend?’ I don’t tell them I’m his mom. And immediately he jumps in, ‘She’s my mom!’ He starts going, ‘Mom, come here!’ so that they know I’m not his girlfriend.”
The Columbian-born star – who began her career as a model – admitted she feels “lucky” being a Latina woman, as she can get away with being curvy.
She added: “I believe you can party in moderation, you can drink in moderation, eat in moderation, anything. Don’t get crazy. Or working out, even. You can overwork out and look horrible. And I’m 37 years old.
“I think, when you get older, you don’t need to be that thin or that perfect anymore, so it’s great. And I love that being a Latina, people expect you to be a little more…fleshy. You get away with being less thin when you’re a Latina, so I’m lucky.”
